There is a lot of room for miscalculation in the Persian Gulf waters that could quickly spiral into a broader open conflict between Iran and the US, but if there is some serious pounding to be done, I suspect it will be Israel doing most of it. They have already been brazenly bombing Iranian assets in Syria on regular basis and there doesn't seem to be much Iran can do about it.
Hopefully, there won't be any new conflicts anytime soon involving the US, but if there is, chances are it will be in Venezuela to help break the current stalemate between Maduro and Guaido. If that happens, it will probably be the US providing air, naval, and logistical support to a coalition made up of Colombia, Brazil, and an army of pro-Guaido deserters from the Venezuela military based in those neighboring countries.
