Leave a song by somebody that most people aren't aware of

Forums:

Pretty simple concept that often puts some new music into people's ears. Post a song by an artist that doesn't really have a huge presence.

I will leave Diane Gentle and the Gentle Men.

Motorcycle

Just want to correct a typo above. The band is Diane and The Gentle Men. Her name is Diane Gentile.

The above song just makes me smile.

The Sadies - "Leave This World Behind" Internal Sounds 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk9WYgtRQ2U

One time special exclusive$20 show Alert. Sadies just outside of Boston MA. Opening act (Governor) is at 9pm.

Grateful Dead - If I Had The World To Give (Cool Version)
Grateful Dead - "France" (Studio Version)
One of the two above has earned its obscurity. The other is a goofy ass song sung by Ms Donna Jean Godchaux.

No but I kid, really.

I've never heard The Sadies before. You're 2 for 2.

Is there a link to the Cool Version of If I Had the World to Give? I've listened to everything on this thread, might as well listen to that, too.

Oh thanks Judit!

* Sadies tomorrow at Once Ballroom on Highland Ave
* Redbones would be cool beforehand if anyone is around

Just spitballin'. I never saw a show with that show, Judit.
I would like to hear a cool version, myself.
Got the LP today on vinyl, sounded pretty chef'd up, as they say.

Oops, meant, a *show with that *one*.

One of my favorite live acts recently is Remember Jones. RJ is a rock and soul review with a huge revolving cast of musicians overseen by Anthony Amato. This is an act to catch live soon as they are gaining some serious traction.

This one is skirting the line but I am betting even if most people know which album it comes from, they won't know the tune (I didn't until I started spinning All Things Must Past on repeat over the last couple weeks):

George Harrison – "Run Of the Mill"

I'm pretty sure most people know who George Harrison is/was, Ateix. :-)

Oops. Goofed it up, thought all along it was a song nobody'd heard of.

(Although, with a Joe Russo sit-in imminent, I bet this awesome band creeps into the radar here soon.)

https://twitter.com/delicatesteve/status/883077216522915841

I feel like I hear Delicate Steve as NPR filler music every day.

Sleaford Mods

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyXt5dPEfeQ

Ulrich Schnauss. Yeah, mon.

I am sure one or two of you know about these guys - but maybe not everyone...

TJ Kirk - "Soul Power"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU-Lr9CCIzE

Mylab (with guests including Frisell)) - "Master Korean Musicians of Canada"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y80M6YwobbQ

It's definitely creeping in, Alias, but you are more musically adventurous than most and where NPR may be a good indicator of something not being very obscure, I'm still surprised that not many know this band.

Love TJ Kirk, Six.

And don't forget the Jonas Munk part of that link with Ulrich....He's Causa Sui.

Kumbaya.

Its not like they say "That was Delicate Steve" on NPR when they do their intros and outros.  I'm just saying it's nice that he is getting a little air time.  Go Delicate Steve!

:: fist bump ::

Oh yes!  You know I am all about Causa Sui - and if you like them - check out the Palehorse/Palerider link and Clour Haze above.

Here is another great Colour Haze tune no one probably knows about:

Colour Haze - "To The Highest Gods We Know"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG2E3nIzNdA

>>>> Kumbaya

This is truly the BEST thing that goes on on the Zone. Thank you, Tony for the thread. And Kumbaya back at you HL73 .

And TJ Kirk - I was lucky to see them once. Once. Amendola is so good.

Never seen TJ live, but I have witnessed the power of Amendola live with the Nels Cline Singers. Yep,  so good.

I saw them with about 30 people at a small club. Outrageous evening. They played their asses off.

Just saw the Nels Cline Four at Hipster Fest.

Nels with Scott Colley, Julian Lage and Tom Rainey on drums.

most of these have found there way into the monthly thread at some point or another.

Hi Tony!

Kamasi Washington- maybe you have heard of him, I dunno but this guy put on the best show at the Flynn in BTV that I have seen in a long time. Go see him if you get the chance. This song is a new favorite of mine. Truth.

Anyway...

Another band that is under most people's radar but showing up quickly is Hollis Brown from Queens, NY. Great songs and a good live act to boot.

Run Right To You

I bet Hollis Brown is a good live act, Tony. Music like that can rile the heathens very well. Reminds me a bit of The Record Company.

^

Indeed. For the record, I recently heard a major DJ announce them from the stage and he said, "Give it up for the 2nd best band ever to come out of Queens." I'm not sure I agree, but they are up and comers. They might be a couple Viva peeps radar after their recent Mountain Jam slot.

>>Give it up for the 2nd best band ever to come out of Queens

Is it too simple to assume that The Ramones were the best?

Hoo boy! Spectrum can be a tough listen for some people.
