Do people actually still kid themselves that pro sports franchises are loyal to anything but $$? Las Vegas Raider's team jackets will be on backorder by summer time.
We cut the cable last season, and I tried to give up football cold turkey after 40+years.
Then the Raiders started winning. Damn it! I got sucked back in. Now this! Raider Nation is squirming, but it's done so....bring on the sequined jerseys.
As a lifelong Raider fan and season ticket holder I can guarantee that I will NEVER attend a Raider game in Las Vegas and will not visit that city for any purpose!!
Raiders fan here. How could you not see this coming? The Coliseum is a pit, and there's no public or private money in the east bay to change that. They were going someplace, and I can't blame them.
I really don’t understand why a billionaire club running a very profitable cartel needs public money.
The NFL has its top stars that stick around but the majority of the team is made up of a revolving door of young kids that don’t last more than three years. It will be interesting to see how they do in Vegas. So many places to get in trouble 24/7/365.
This is going to be an insanely profitable team. Even if the locals don’t support them. Next year you have the Ravens, Patriots, Chiefs, Cowboys, Giants, Jets, Broncos playing at Oakland. You really don’t think those fan bases don’t want to see their teams play in Vegas.
I've seen more Raiders gear, car flags, etc than I have in 10 years. I really do hope that they manage to get a SB win in Oakland before they leave (unless they are playing a team I like better).
Really hoping Brady and Belichick are the first to get caught up in Hookergate.
Maybe they can tear the Coliseum down once the Raiders are gone, and build a retro style baseball stadium for the A's? Lacking that, Oakland will lose them too, either to San Jose, Vegas or Vancouver, B.C.
Oaklands Broke. They lost the Warriors to Frisco.. Now Da Raiders to Lost Wages.... A's who knows...
Oakland will be paying for the Warriors building until 2024 & Da Raiders Mt.Davis until 2026.
The Oakland Coliseum is a dump, it's been falling apart for years. Once Candlestick was demo'd it became the worst stadium in the NFL until the LA Lambs started playing in the LA Coliseum last season.
It least we will still have them until 2019 maybe 2020. I'll still go to any games I can make.
So I see a lot of Raider Fans pissed that we're moving to Lost Wages.
I feel blessed to have had them back at all. When they came back I was in total shock!
I'm GRATEFUL for the time I got to see them. Being a PSL holder in the late 90's... in the Black Hole with my brother, getting to go to 2 Championship games.
I'm sad to see they're leaving again. But I'm truly thankful for the all the games I got to attend!!
Win, Lose or Tie, Raiders until I die!!!
The A's are staying in Oakland. Probably at the same site after they tear down both the stadium & arena and build a new baseball stadium and commercial community around it.
The city knew they couldn't keep both the A's and Raiders, and especially after the A's were blocked from moving to San Jose the Raiders leaving was pretty much a forgone conclusion; the question wasn't if they would move, it was where. Baseball stadiums are good business, football stadiums not always so much, especially in a crowded market.
Plus, as rabid as Raiders fans are, they didn't buy PSL's and luxury boxes when the team came back from LA which screwed the city big-time, and the team couldn't sell out their stadium at all until they closed off 20% of it and dropped ticket prices to 1980s levels.
Even with the recent quality rise of the team it's hard to imagine they would have been able to sell out a full stadium with five-figure PSL's and many tickets in the $150 - $250 range per game.
It's sad for Oakland fans, but no one should be surprised.
The weird thing is going to be their lame duck status for at least two and maybe three more years in Oakland. There's gonna' be weird vibes in that place going forward, but as long as they keep the prices low and the tarp up (and they keep winning) I expect the place to stay full and edgier than ever.
But I bet Mark Davis isn't going to be very visible at home games in Oakland. In fact I imagine he won't be seen much in the Bay Area at all any more. Raiders fans love a good enemy, and now they have a new enemy #1.
He won't care though. He was always going to be a small-timer in the BA. I'm sure he's already dreaming about being the top dog in Las Vegas.
As a lifelong Easty Raiders fan I can say I am excited for the next few years in Vegas. Cheap flights and Hotels, all the visiting teams will be too hung over to play, I think it works. Only the Raiders could have pulled this off. As far as the Hard Core Blackholers in the Bay Area, I feel for ya, but don't dismay....They'll Be BACK!!
And while you mentioned the abundance of cheap flight and hotels, you forgot about the $2 steak and lobster dinner at the Sands. You have one of those dinners, get a bunch of free drinks then go check out Sammy and Dean.
The Raiders should be forced to leave their name in Oakland and become the Vegas Carpetbaggers. The atmosphere in Vegas will be nothing like a home game in Oakland where it is intimidating for the visitors. Davis will bankrupt the team in Vegas as he will be unable to make the $50 million per year interest payments on his debt and the NFL will then award the team to one of their "kind" for several billion $. The rich get richer and the Vegas suckers will have a $2 billion albatross on the strip. Serves them right!
I don't like Vegas. Went to Phil show there, I think it was the first at LVBB. Some dude was full on rolling around on the floor making out with his dog, German Shepherd like dog. I mean hard core tongue kissing. A zoner saw it and posted a picture of the "couple" Saw him a day later in the casino he was sitting at a slot with his dog in the seat next to him. Vegas wooks ae the worst. Place gives me the fuckin willies.
Wow, in shocking news, a professional sports team owner comes out and says that it's STUPID for the US taxpayers to fork over $750 million dollars, no strings attached, to a multi-billion dollar organization so it can build a new stadium for them. Boy are we dumb.
Foley questioned whether using public money was wise. He told the radio show Vegas Hockey Hotline: “I felt like there were a lot better ways to spend $750m than bringing the Raiders to Las Vegas. We could spend it on police, firefighters and teachers and have them all be the best in the country. But I guess we’re going to spend it on the Raiders …"
probably so- but maybe he forgets the additional revenues and tax dollars that will come in by the truckload when the Raiders play at home.
not just Raider fans but NFL fans from all over the country will flock to Vegas to see their teams play the Raiders and blow buku bucks at the hotels/ casinos & restaurants...getting face down in the gutter shithoused in the process. Huge increase in profits on Sunday getaway days at the hotels as well. Most will fly out on Mondays now with royal hangovers.
Las Vegas draws hundreds of thousands of people to town for events like the EDM festival, CES conference, AVN conference, multiple rodeo events that all take place at locations that already exist. Literally HUNDREDS of thousands of people come to Las Vegas for these events and these events have been taking place for years.
i reject the notion that 8 games a year of 80,000 attendance plus a super bowl every ten years is going to do much for the local economy. Right but who is that money going to? The taxpayers?
Using OUR taxpayer money to build a facility for a business that makes billions of dollars in profit is pretty dumb
The cities of St. Louis and Oakland still owe tens of millions of dollars for building the football stadiums for teams that have left or are leaving. San Diego just told their team to take a hike because they didn't want to hand over free money to the d-bag billionaire who owns the Chargers.
Clark County, Nevada, had their school district increase the size of classes in order to save $14 million dollars, but it's OK to GIVE the NFL $750 million.
Yeah, go raiders. What a bunch of suckers we are. Hopefully this is the last stadium built with OUR MONEY.
That makes sense. If I were a chargers or raiders fan I'd cut my losses too.
That being said, I remain a lifetime NY Jets fan. Selling the team and replacing the whole organization is the only possible way to make the Jets a winning team.
Mark Davis is borrowing $1 billion from Bank America and to pay the league fees to relocate. So his interest payments will be around $50 million/year which he can't begin to pay for. The league owners know this and since Davis has never been part of their rich guy social scene they will wait for the Raiders to default on their loans. Then they will resell the team to the highest bidder who of course will be a fellow fat cat and put large $$$ in all their pockets. Mark the neanderthal is so over his head it's astonishing. And the band plays on!

Yeah, go raiders. What a bunch of suckers we are. Hopefully this is the last stadium built with OUR MONEY.

That makes sense. If I were a chargers or raiders fan I'd cut my losses too.
That being said, I remain a lifetime NY Jets fan. Selling the team and replacing the whole organization is the only possible way to make the Jets a winning team.

its almost un-watchable on TV.
the flow is completely gone. tv time outs. time outs. official review. new stadiums. luxury boxes. lack of decent qb's.
commissioner is a joke.
games unaffordable for the avg fan.

Mark Davis is borrowing $1
Mark Davis is borrowing $1 billion from Bank America and to pay the league fees to relocate. So his interest payments will be around $50 million/year which he can't begin to pay for. The league owners know this and since Davis has never been part of their rich guy social scene they will wait for the Raiders to default on their loans. Then they will resell the team to the highest bidder who of course will be a fellow fat cat and put large $$$ in all their pockets. Mark the neanderthal is so over his head it's astonishing. And the band plays on!
