Lager is visiting Portland Oregon

Forums:

Hello. I'll be visiting Portland next week. I'm arriving saturday evening and will be doing a mix of work and pleasure. Going to visit the coast next friday. I'll be chilling on NE Monroe street.

What are the places that everyone recommends to avoid for eating or visiting? What the secret gems no one knows about I should visit?

Thanks everyone! If I have missed previous threads, sorry. If you are in town and want to grab a coffee or beer, let me know.

Welcome.  You are coming just at the right time because it has been cold and super wet for the past couple weeks and its finally going to clear up this weekend.

I would check out Mississippi and Alberta Streets which are relatively close to NE Monroe.  Hip neighborhoods with lots of bars and restaurants.   Stormbreaker on Mississippi and Great Notion on Alberta are good brewpubs to check out.   There will certainly be music to see.  The Alberta Pub, Mississippi Studios, White Eagle, and the Wonder Ballroom have live music and are all in that general side of town.

The Goodfoot isn't in that neighborhood (more like central east side) but features music every night including local jam bands.   Mars Retrieval Unit and a GD cover band are playing there next week, but the music usually starts at 10:00 which is too late on weeknights for me.

For food, let us know if there are particular types you are into.   I would at least hit up the Asylum on Hawthorne food cart pod, which is one of the biggest in town and features street food from around the world.

Places to avoid include Old Town/Chinatown, the homeless camps along the freeway, and Voodoo Donuts.   I am flying down to Florida next Wednesday, but if you are out and about before then, i would be happy to buy you a beer.

...and I'd be happy to join the gathering if one gets organized!

Lager my email is in profile... would prefer to share Portland info that way.

Ken, thanks for the info! Do you have contact info you'd like to share? LLOLLO, thank you also!

Also, good recommendation on Goodfoot-I'll be there for Rhapsody in Red show thursday night. If anyone knows the band, let me know.

I haven't seen Rhapsody in Red, but know some of the players.  Steely Pete is a Portland jam band regular who plays a mean pedal steel.  Arthur Steinhorn used to play drums for Kingfish and maybe NRPS, but spent the better part of the last decade or so in the Garcia Birthday Band.   I also see Steve Thun is in the band.   I have jammed with Steve on a few occasions and know him professionally through his day job.

If you contact Llollo via email, she can provide you with my contact info and feel free to text me if you have time this weekend to meet up for a beer or what not.

safest travels my dear !

Ken & Llollo, thanks for the advice, JLP, thanks for the vibes.

Wasn't there a zoner with a record store? Was that Seattle or Portland? (My memory is foggy these days).

Dave's music store is up in Seattle.

Ahhh-thank you, Ken. I gave Llollo my cell. If you guys have time in the schedule, I'll definitely be at Goodfoot thursday night. Thanks again!
