Kobe Bryant has apparently died

if that's the same LA Times story i just read, it reports a crash but doesn't name any of the people killed.

it's amazing how good the zone is at getting breaking news.

Appears to be confirmed on multiple news outlets. Tragic.

thanks Quinn I always come here first to let everyone know. sad day for sports fans. Kobe was a unique guy that's for sure.

Woj and ESPN finally confirming, 19 minutes after it broke on the VLZ. smh

RIP

This is gonna' hit Turtle hard, he's a big Kobe fan.

Fuckin' helicopters.

HARSH !  Love Kobe i am Heartbroken

Sad. Oh shit, beside everything else, he's been such a good friend, support and mentor to some pro tennis players who've been talking about him lately.

Damn! Rest in Peace.

LeBron was just talking about Kobe last night after passing him on the scoring list.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/on-the-night-lebron-passes-kobe-on-...

When James drove by Ben Simmons in the third quarter Saturday night following a few near misses to pass Bryant on the scoring list, it didn’t cement him as a greater scorer than Bryant.

“He had zero flaws offensively. Zero,” James said of Bryant. “You backed off him, he could shoot the three. You body him up a little bit, he could go around you. He could shoot the midrange, the post, make free throws. That’s something I admired.”

RIP Kobe. What a shame. 41. Damn.

Grew up about 10 minutes from his high school, and was a huge fan of his father, Jellybean Joe, when I was in Jr. High, & he starred at La Salle University in the mid 70's.

Never rooted for him to succeed as a pro, not a fan of the Lakers post Wilt & Jerry West, but had to respect the talent and the drive.

Saw him get passed by LeBron James last night on the all-time points list, great game in his hometown.

His daughter was also on the helicopter.  She is also deceased.

No question, one of the greatest or the greatest competitor in hoops history. Read a story back in the day of him having keys to the local high school gym down the street from where he lived. He would apparently show up at the gym after some Laker losses at 12 am and work himself out until 4 am, sleep until noon, and then go practice. The example of his work ethic inspired a lot of younger NBA players to have that MAMBA mentality.  Top 3 Laker of all time.

Yup immediately thought of turtle

peace to all testudines and fans and foremost family

I remember reading a story that he raped a gal in Colorado.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant_sexual_assault_case

Dude was really good and not a pompass ass.

RIP

Guess a daughter was on board.  Sad.  RIP Kobe.

"12:35 PM PT -- Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria Onore -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.

We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks."

>>>>not a pompass ass

he was a little pompous I think. but that's not for this thread

Terrible news. Incredible player. Snuffed my Celts more than a few times. So sad.

Both him and his daughter Gigi were big on UConn.

RIP Kobe, Gigi + Friends

I am so sad for his wife losing both her child and husband. Such a tough thing.

Yeah his other kids too. Horrible.

Crash 33 miles from my pad RIP Kobe/ Daughter and all who perished.

Racket keeping it classy.

>>>did you guys see this?

no hadn't seen that. quite an unfortunate slip of the tongue. not really relevant though.

let's try to stay focused

caught the tail end of the MJ greatness -- too young for the most part.

kobe was my MJ. just incredible to watch play the fucking game. i hate the lakers, but of course loved watching dude destroy the hope and of his opponent and their fans. classic. better than LBJ imo. straight assassin on the floor.

sad shit.

Kobe averaged 35.4 a game in 2005-06. Good for 10th all time. (Wilt has 5 of top 10)

Damn, that guy could hoop.  My condolences to all the Laker fans and all who ever appreciated his talent and gamesmanship.

I lived in L.A. from 1999-2005 at the peak of his career.  To the grade school kids I taught, Kobe was like a god.  I'm thinking of them now, and of his family, teammates and colleagues.  Shaq is pretty torn up.  The fans can't even properly grieve at the Stsples Center because the Grammy Awards are there tonight.  I'm sure those festivities will be muted.

We were lucky to get to see him play.

R.I.P. Black Mamba

RIP

thanks for the 20 years.

you were incredible.

was at the beach. my buddy texted me rip mamba. i thought it was due to lebron passing his scoring record #3 spot.

crazy.

he practiced where i work also quite frequently.

and what jr said.

love him or hate him, he worked for it and wanted it more than most.

yeah and fuck helicopters!

One of the greatest without a doubt. Really made watching the NBA fun for so many years. That last one where he took down an incredible Celtics team without shaq was a true classic.

Racket brings up a valid part of the Kobe story... perhaps a bit quickly, but still valid.

He beat that rap, as the very rich & powerful usually do.

But funny thing about being very rich; it gives, but it can also take away.

Who else can afford a private helicopter.

But even at 41 he got to live a full life, his daughter not so much.

Sad for her, for her friend & her parents, the pilot, and yeah, Kobe too.

But the kids more.

if Racket actually read into the rape allegations against Bryant then he would see that there was a lot of evidence stacked up against the victims claim of rape which was why he was never charged with the crime. They found at the lab she had another mans semen and pubic hair on her panties. So she had vaginal trauma but claims it was from Bryant but then immediately after the so called incident she went and had sex with another man? Her story didn't add up and he was cleared. All of that information can be found in the link you posted, btw.

You pay your accuser 2.5 million because your innocent?

C'mon now ratchethead, nobody here brings up the episode of you fucking your neighbors chained up dog, do we ? All caught on security cam too I believe.

Wouldn't hurt ya to show some fucking class now n agin

<kobe>

I'm not wishing to argue merit. It was an undisclosed cash settlement outside of court. She was probably suing for lost time out of work and defamation, lawyer fees, etc. I don't claim to know all the details. Just getting this info from your link which you didn't even read. IMO, her story sounds full of shit.

Wow. Some touching photos of Mamba coaching his girls the day before. Click through on the arrows of the Instagram post to see all the images.

Terry Jones would probably have been a little amused by this.  The Pythons always loved to poke at the BBC:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/bbc-apologizes-airing-lebron-james-...

Terry Jones, Mr. Peanut and Kobe is about as surreal a group of 3 gets.

3 young teens....just horrific...i cant imagine...

Loved to watch him play...dont really have much to say about his personal history, except that he seemed to become a much better man after he had children (and all daughters...maybe made him look at his past real hard)

Prayers for ALL the families, and loved ones

Jimmy Kimmel's show last night night, a tribute to Kobe.  After the monologue, the first taped piece has Kobe's final appearance on Kimmel.    He had just had his fourth daughter two months earlier, and was clearly in a good place.

Some say we lost just a basketball player, but others say we lost a true hero.

He pushed us to try harder, to BE better. A guiding light to many.

It takes a big man to buy your wife a $4 million dollar ring after you slept and/or raped a 19 year old hotel employee. But he did. And it helped.

Went the extra mile by purchasing a Sikorsky because he loved this kids. Helicopter love is only a small rung below whisper jet love.

I think we're all a little short of breath this week as the nation mourns. It gives us pause.

And yes we know other people died and we certainly won't discount their somewhat irrelevant non-basketball lives. But they did die with Kobe Bryant. Perhaps that is a great gift after all.

On June 18, 2017, Taurasi became the WNBA all-time leading scorer. Taurasi is considered one of the greatest women to play basketball. Her penchant for scoring in crucial situations has earned her the nickname "White Mamba", first coined by Kobe Bryant. She mentioned it on CBS a bit ago, cool shit. Basketball's a lot like music, a universal language. Kobe Gigi

Nah, I just don't buy into celebrity worship and social media tragedy fellatio. That's just me. Forgive me for my sins and many faults Jillybean.

More than anything I feel bad for the souls who somewhat unwittingly, decided to get into that helicopter with Kobe Bryant.

I flew out of LAX 22 minutes before that copter took off. The entire basin was thick like a chowder. As far out to sea as you could view, and way way inland.

He was a girl dad... nothing could be better then that

The ongoing reaction to this is a bit surprising to me (and a bit much IMO) but people do love a tragedy.

Don Henley tried warning us

< I just don't buy into celebrity worship

Hahaaaaa says the man who sniffed the reeking buns of Garcia and acted like it was cocaine.

Zoners tend to celebrate lives, not worship em. Hell we don't even worship God round this mutherfucker

Shew, man seeing Jerry West on tv made me tear up. He's given several interviews and he's crying during every one. He said he'd never get over this and compared it to losing his brother in the Korean War. Watching Shaq break down was tough too.

Jerry said he's fine with giving up the NBA Logo for him. Class

Lol, Jp. Some good zoning there

Hahaaaaa says the man who sniffed the reeking buns of Garcia and acted like it was cocaine.<<<<

What kind of odd reality to you live in day to day?
