Kimock in Harrisburg, PA NYE as part of Bear's Picnic hotel - fest ( a bunch of bands playing at a Radisson).
He's billed as guest artist (other acts include Cabinet, Larry Keel, Englishtown Project and more).

They've had a few of these in the past, mostly with New Riders and/or JGB headlining -- can be fun cause you can stay at hotel and no driving involved.
(Unfortunately you end up trying to dance in a low ceiling conference room with a carpeted floor and so-so PA, so the sound is often lacking.)
Sort of a blue collar hippie vibe, shades of jamgrass.

The great Steve Kimock, Garcia's heir apparent, playing a New Year's Eve gig as a hired hand at a Radisson in the middle of PA?
I'm sure he's being compensated mightily for his appearance, but uh that is a weird ass gig.

I went to this several NYE
I went to this several NYE ago, Splintered Sunlight, JGB, and I forget who else. I briefly met Zoner CAT. My recollection is that it was a younger crowd and the sound was poor. Everyone seemed to be tripping balls, many "inexperienced" peeps and I saw at least two instances of puking on the carpet (which created no dance zones). We made the best of it. I hope this event has gotten better since then.

Some of the best Kimock shows were Zero or KVHW shows in some funky hall or hotel ballroom in the middle of nowhere!
Granted, that was a looooooong time ago. Probably full of young kids trippin and pukin (shakes fist).
I don't think he's suffering too much, as he also has a Hot Tuna date in NYC, Zero shows in SF, and JamCruise and Japan on his calender.

Kimock is from PA, and plays there pretty regularly. Not sure about the heir apparent, but he’s always leaned more of a collaborator/sideman than an outright bandleader to me.
