Going to see Keller tonight at the Wonder Ballroom. He his backed by a bluegrass group the Hillbenders and they will be playing the songs of Tom Petty (PettyGrass). I have seen him do Breakdown and Last Dance With Mary Jane before and thought he did them justice. Anyway, hope he does some of his own material too.

Hope you enjoy it, Ken. Saw Petty Grass a couple of years ago at Targhee. Fun stuff. Crowd dug it.
The Hillbenders are the group that did the "Tommy" album in a bluegrass stylee. Pete dug it so much he let them copy the "Tommy" album cover.

After so much success with "Tommy", a new project of theirs is WhoGrass, a deeper dive into the Who and Peter Townsend catalogs.

Here's The Hillbenders doing "Tommy" at Hardly Strictly 2016. Audio kicks in about 47:44. http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2016/webcast/?mrid=106733

It was a good show all the
It was a good show all the way around.
Keller started with an hour long solo set doing his one man band looping thing: Gatecrashers Suck, Scarlet Begonias>the Wedge>Scarlet, Freek Show, Mullet Cut, New Song About How the Kings of Leon Walked Off Stage at a Music Fest After Only Three Songs Because they Kept Getting Bombarded by Pigeons Shitting in the Rafters Including One Who Managed to Land a Dookie in the Bass Players Mouth
I actually like his looping thing, so I am glad he included it.
But the main event was the PettyGrass. I had never heard of the Hillbenders before but it was apparent from the first song that they were a tight unit that had played together for a long time. Played an hour and half set of creative interpretations of Petty hits. Rock solid, high energy playing. I went with a friend who is a huge Tom Petty fan and he is still raging about how awesome it was and how it did the guy's tunes justice. I am a more casual Petty fan and thought it was well done. Don't have the complete set list, but it included the usual suspects: Last Dance with Mary Jane, Great Wide Open, Running Down a Dream, Breakdown, Don't Do Me Like That, The Waiting., Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (KW doing the Stevie Nicks part), You Don’t Know How It Feels, etc.
Wonder Ballroom was packed. Crowd was younger (mostly 20s-30s) and a good balance of dudes and chicks.
The "security check" was a first I have seen for the venue and deserves its own thread.

I still can't decide if Keller looks like Nick Hikingman, or if Nick Hikingman looks like Keller.
