Order in.

But I would have picked a few shows from later in the summer to include in this.  The Chicago run had some great moments.

meh. I will buy it but its not my favorite era at all

Not my favorite either, but it is unique in terms of tone and set lists that hadn't yet ossified.

agreed Thom.  I love what Jamie at Plangent does with these recordings as well.  for those with the means, that is reason alone to buy this set

Not my favorite era either. But if i only had GD from my favorite era, I would be depriving myself of TONS of amazing music. These shows are fresh, and the clips sound great to my ears. Beleive it if you need it...

My wife went to the Boston shows, so Might As Well (spend money).

And not my favorite era either but there are clearly some high moments here.

Would've been nice if they released a remastered DVD/Bluray video of 6/19/1976 Passaic NJ show as well as 6/14/1976 Boston soundcheck.

the bus came by moment for me...

I recently listened to this whole tour including the July Orpheum. It was so good I listened to it again!  Every show back to back

"I love what Jamie at Plangent does with these recordings as well. "

Agreed.  The releases as of late have had amazing sonic quality, these will sound as good as you'll ever hear them.

Tower photo, Thom?

The Chicago run had some great moments>>>

Samson was not played at the third show after 17 in a row to start the tour.

Love me some '76 Grateful Dead.

I won't buy this, but I love me some '76 Grateful Dead.

"Tower photo, Thom?"

Photo is fom the booklet for the new box set so I assume it's Boston or the Beacon.  But I suspect that they play fast and loose with the photos for these box sets, as long as it's from a show in the era it's probably acceptable.

12,000 x150.00=1, 800,000. Wow!,some grate stuff there though....

boxset dropped in Novato today.  nice and compact look and cool enough art.  the important stuff, the music, sounds pristine so far on 6/10.  I was not looking forward to this set per say but if it sounds this good all the way thru, I am all in on multiple listens I am sure

Great to hear that! I'm very much looking forward to mine arriving on Monday!

Got mine yesterday, just finishing up the second set of 6/14 at the Beacon.  Excellent sound, I pretty much use the bass as my gauge on how good the mastering is on these releases and Phil sounds fantastic on here.  The drums are also crystal clear.  What these shows lack in pure energy they make up in clarity and spaciousness of sound, this set is a superb record of the band at a particular point in time that really was never repeated.  I probably won't spend much time in these first sets but I'll make up for it with the second set jams.  A worthy addition to the collection.

"A worthy addition to the collection."

yup.  grate call

Thom I think the Beacon shows might be the best of the tour.  After listening I found them both to be way ahead of their time sounding.  Just Fucking fantastic.  After the Boston run they were hitting on all cylinders in NYC. Passaic seems looser, and the Tower and Chicago are more exploratory but the set lists get shorter. Imo

The Beacons are right on the money

St. Stephen from 6/15 is worth the price of admission.

Begonias from 6/11:  More cowbell!

my favorite 76 show though I haven't listened to much from 76.. I just think it is sublime My desert island tape possibly. Jerry and band in the persian zone.

Having been to some of these shows, IMHO the 6/9/76 BMHall show is as strong as anything in the current box set,
especially the jam during the Saint Steven which leads into Eyes. As previously stated, the sound quality on the newly released box set is all there then some.

Good call dave

Out of curiosity I did a sound comparison between these new discs and both 6/9/76 (Road Trips) and 7/17/76 (Daves Picks).  The new set is much better than 6/9 and a slight improvement on 6/17.  For lack of a better term, the "ethereal" quality of this time period comes through better on the new release.

The Slipknot from Beacon 6-14 is a monster.

The Crazy Fingers is a treat also.

Keith is really at his best in this box set.

I continue to be amazed at the quality of the music as well as the recordings in this set, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite releases.  The jams, especially the Playin's, have a feel of being suspended in air about them, and this is enhanced by the clarity of the recordings.  Some of the best sounding Phil and drums (especially the toms), Keith is all over the place, and Jerry's TB-1000 (always my least favorite guitar of his) sounds fuller then any '76 recording I've ever heard. The balance and separation between the instruments is just breathtaking at points. This set displays what the band was trying to achieve at that point in time like no other recordings from that time that I've ever heard, I've gone back and pulled out most of the official '76 releases and they just aren't in the same league as these shows as far as the quality of the recording goes.

>>>>>Jerry and band in the persian zone.

Pretty sure the actual Persian didn't make an appearance until spring 77.

I also think the sound quality of this boxed set is wonderful.  I only brought up the 6/9 shoe up in comparison to what the band played those nights and how they played what they played, not the sound quality of the released recordings.  Comparing one GD shoe to another is a subjective process.  I was fortunate to be in attendance for  6/9, 6/15, and 6/17.  It's nice to listen to official releases of all of these shows.  IMHO 6/9 was the strongest of the three, but to each his or her own.
