Cool stuff up there^

I am going to listen to Jorma's new CD and his Blue Country Heart over the next day or so.

Then dust off my Bob Marley collection, to get in the Reggae mood for seeing some variation of the Wailers this Friday.

Hey Bluelight,

Let us know how the Wailers show is.  I'm thinking about attending when they are at the UC Theatre in Berkeley.

I'm going through scores of movie soundtracks/scores on CD to separate the grain from the chaff.

Would be fun (or just a little tedious?) to review every one on the zone.

Today I've listened to:

Leaving Las Vegas (smoky jazz with dialogue excerpts - keep)

Legally blonde (girl pop mix - ditch)

Living Out Loud (Queen Latifah and Danny DeVito sing standards, some Rat Pack & Etta James - save on computer then ditch CD)

Life is Beautiful (Italian score - keep)

Little Women (Nice score - keep)

Lost In Space - Original TV series score (John Williams' 1965 score = KEEP!)

Lost In Space - 1998 movie (half techno/big beat mix and half symphonic score - keep)

Out of ABC order:

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (fun move-fun music mix of Junior Murvin, James Brown, Dusty Springfield, Stooges; with techno, funk, reggae.  Chock-full of foul-mothed dialogue, so not playing it for the kids - yet.  Keep).

I'm listening to my Dylan shows wishing I could see him again.

Lost Highway (film by David Lynch, soundtrack produced by Trent Rezner = dark, atmospheric, Gothic mix of Bowie, NIN, Barry Adamson, Lou Reed, Rammstein, etc, etc.....Oh, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.  wink   Keep)

No Nucs concert album...was reminded of this album other day when i saw that Jesse Colin Young is playin on Cape Cod this week....cant go to show, but , damn, i havent listened to this album in ages...tons of great stuff on it...any zoners go to this show???

Today we listened to PET TO sessions and Dr Alimento Best Dressed Chicken (70's black ark era toasting). Yesterday I really enjoyed Cavern of Antimatter, band of Stereolab dudes. Nice kraut groove space funk. Currently listening to city setting off firecrackers.

You all are listening to a bunch of my favorite things (Pentangle, QMS, Marley, etc).  And I really want to check out Cavern of Antimatter.

I won't bore you with a long list of Soundtracks that I have been listening to over the last couple of days, but right now I'm listening to:

The Million Dollar Hotel Soundtrack (2000), which has a nice mix of musicians, sometimes calling themselves The MDH Band (U2, Eno, Frisell, Lanois, and other talented-sounding members- I don't have the liner notes).  Generally, a mellow, smoky, sultry collection of moody tunes/soundscapes.

I'm trying to listen to all the early Zappa albums in order (from You Tube), a multi day project.  Haven't heard some of this stuff in decades.  Up to Crusin w/Ruben & the Jets, never "got" that one as a Young-N, am diggin' it now.  I lost most of my FZ vinyl in 1980 to a thievery due to a drug deal gone bad.

Also happened upon this Zorn live show, really dug it, then got some great laughs from the Comments in You Tube, 2 different commentors decrying that it sounds like Jamband "toss off that belongs @ an Allman Bros show", & that he's far below a long list of more obscure Avant Garde musicians who were also Mac Arthur Genius Grant recipients, since he's "dicking around with the same genre-crossing pastiche bullshit that he's been doing for years".  Then a bunch of other commentors jump on them for being "hipsters", & "crying about what 'scene' it is like some trendy punk"  Fun stuff.

Right now listening to this tape:

East of the Valley Blues – Rivereto de Konscio (CFE#63)
https://cabinflooresoterica.bandcamp.com/album/cfe-63-rivereto-de-konscio

Nice medtiative acoustic downer jams, if that's your thing, from a band that keeps getting better and better.

I'm taking a break from Soundtracks/Scores to make a couple of copies of Grateful Dead - View from the Vault IV - Oakland Stadium, CA 07/24/87.

I'll be seeing a couple of high school friends for the first time in awhile; tonight, at TXR.

30 years ago this month, we packed ourselves into an old Toyota and headed up to the big city for Dylan and the Dead.  Good times.

Nels Cline Julian Lage - Room

That sounds awesome, Johnny D. I just so happened to be diving into the Front Street rehearsal tapes today:
https://archive.org/details/gd1987-06-01.sbd-rehearsals.fraser.97489.shnf

Rough at times, something about these tunes (maybe because one is a ripping toss-off of calypso "In the Summertime") has a strong chill summer feel to them. I love the Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams covers, and I love their various takes on "Blues Stay Away From Me." Love the haggard "Queen Jane," "Frankie Lee & Judas Priest,"" "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," and hearing them work the outro to "If Not For You."

Not sure how many of these gems they actually pulled out at those stadiums, but this studio thing is one of my favorite things from the massive wealth of respective Dead or Dylan miscellany, and the only document from that co-billed tour period that I return to.

'FUV's Sunday Supper with guest host Christine Lavin.  Miss her on NY radio.  She was a Sunday Wake-n-Bake staple for me in the 90s.

What a good Sunday and fine start to Spring tour 89......if there is a time machine I would be happy going here.

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis

Bob Dylan- Tell Tale Signs Bootleg Series Vol. 8

Some of Dylan's best work contained in these 4 LP's, imo.

rufus- you've got the love- soultrain 74

https://youtu.be/yfYGc8hhT68

stephen marley - rock stone w/. capleton and sizzla

https://youtu.be/mOpCL3ggpCQ

not a fan of stephen and the dubstep that kicks in on his verse ruins the song imo, but i can't get this tune outta my head. love the first two lines and the track in general.

Bo Burnham - Can't Handle This (Kanye Rant)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYy0o-J0x20

im usually not one for musical comedy but this is jaw droppingly good, and gets unexpectedly dark and introspective at the end. alot of the humor here is in the music itself, a parody of the instrumentals and effects used. production values very high here.

Dave Stewart - Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack: The Ref (1994)

- Interesting combo of sounds (boys choir, woodwinds) and electronic soundscapes.  Very mellow and enjoyable, with a few bits of dialogue from the movie.

Listened to this collection of supposedly unreleased John Fahey tapes and recordings from late in his life (when he was more interested in sound collage than alternate fingerpicking). Super creepy and atmospheric lo-fi. Really enjoyed it.

The Magpie Salute

You really do crack me up Ateix. You're like one of those yippy little dogs that think they are a pit bull. Keep barking if it makes you feel...bigger.

I read somewhere that polyamorous human males crave attention at a higher rate than average monogomous individuals.

Bob Dylan - Street Legal

That sounds plausible. What's your excuse? Mommy didn't pay enough attention to you when you were little?

I dont know how WTF are you listening to works.

Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign

Mcdoobie - does your pussy hurt

If it hurts he should just take it off, I assume it's the one that goes on the mouth, with the velcro? should remove very easily.

I've noticed your insults tend to involve vulgar sexual comments Ateix. Are you obsessed, or is that due to a general lack of imagination?

You should check out some polish metal slack

Ooh those feels when it strikes too close to home. Watch and learn, Newbie.

I'd check out some Norwegian Death Metal first. (if you haven't.) I'd post a couple links to get you started but Ateix said I do it wrong and he will make fun of me. Lol

I'm not really in the mood for any death metal. I'd rather listen to Kenny G.

Good lord. You must HATE Death Metal.
