sad

I won’t share my experience with intubated covid pts here but will hope for the best

:(

hope he can recover somehow.

Get well soon. But he's been in bad health for years. Doesn't look very optimistic sorry to say but hope I'm wrong.

Hard news indeed. Here's Prine's 2018 Tiny Desk concert:

John wrote about caring for old people when he was still young:

a true American Beauty

Healing vibes to a great singer-songwriter. Love the guy. Had a few interactions over the years.

Here's John at Hardly Strictly a few years ago. Thanks to Mark D for the seat.  http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2017/webcast/?mrid=114092

Fucking devastated. His wife tested positive weeks ago. His test was "inconclusive". WTF?????

We gotta get better with this.

Aw, I was just listening to his music with appreciation last night.

(((John Prine)))

My downstairs neighbor has been having horrible respiratory problems and had her COVID-19 test come back as "inconclusive" as well.

Shit.

Hope he won't be smoking a cigarette that is nine miles long

The man is an American Treasure.

Good luck, Johnny D

An absolute giant, hoping against hope for a recovery.

When I get to heaven, I'm gonna shake God's hand
Thank him for more blessings than one man can stand
Then I'm gonna get a guitar and start a rock-n-roll band
Check into a swell hotel; ain't the afterlife grand?

And then I'm gonna get a cocktail: vodka and ginger ale
Yeah, I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's nine miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the tilt-a-whirl
'Cause this old man is goin' to town❤️❤️❤️

Just saw he was upgraded form critical to stable. Get well John Prine! Grate news for the family.

I just heard that too. All those good vibes are working!  RIGHT ON!

Sorry Steve Goodman, you're gonna have to wait a little longer.

>upgraded from critical to stable<
Great news!

Keep fighting, John,

Actually, sorry to say, his condition is stable, not that he is upgraded from critical.

I need to clarify what I mean by “John is stable”. That is not the same as improving. There is no cure for Covid-19. He needs our prayers and love - as do the thousands of others who are critically ill. Stay at home. Wash your hands. We love you.

A representative for John confirmed to Rolling Stone that he “remains in the ICU and is stable on the respirator.”

John Prine’s Wife Says Singer Is Now ‘Stable,’ But Still Critically Ill

She subsequently tweeted a clarification, to make sure followers did not assume he is by any means out of the woods. “I need to clarify what I mean by ‘John is stable.’ That is not the same as improving. There is no cure for COVID-19. He needs our prayers and love — as do the thousands of others who are critically ill. Stay at home. Wash your hands. We love you.”

Stable is good, all things considered.

I have been working with someone who was in the ICU on life support for multiple organ failure, including lung failure.  The sane thing to do was place her on a DNR.  Less than 1 1/2 months later, she's off of the oxygen, sitting up and eating food.  We're tentatively planning that she can return home after a bit of rehab therapy.

There is still hope...

The sun's going down and the moon is just holding it's breath.

Hang in there John

Hang in there man.

about this time in '02, my wife at the time had won tickets from WXRX in Rockford to see John Prine at the beautiful Coronado Theater . Todd Snider opened for him. That whole acoustic night was a treat...I remember John breaking a string on Lake Marie. I looked it up, he played 21 songs that night including Illegal Smile, Spanish Pipedream, Angel from Mont....an amazingly insightful and talented artist ....(((Thank you, K)))

((((((((((John and Family))))))))))

Snider and Prine together. Nice.

Todd Snider opened for John Prine when I saw him two years ago.  Todd came out during Prine's set to do the female part of "In Spite of Ourselves":

Awesome.  Seen both many times, but never together.

You're from Rockford?

I lived there from 74-79. Looking at an old Illinois Entertainer free paper from July 1978  Vol. 2 No. 52 right now with John Prine on the cover.. Say's "A Portrait of John Prine".  Have many Illinois Entertainer papers from 77-79 I never threw away.

Ever seen a concert at the Rockford Speedway. Lived 2 miles from it and saw a few in 1979. Would walk it was so close.

Back page. Willie at Rockford Speedway. They had lot's of shows there in the 70's. I used to have old papers from 75 and 76 where a lot of bands played the Speedway. ZZ Top. Willie I think on Independance Day 7/4/76.

My mistake on Willie 7/4/76. I know he played around that time.

>>>Snider and Prine together. Nice.

Yes it was, Mark. They make a fantastic duo :)

Nice to know they were still playing together, Ken.

Hi doc,

i'm from around the Springfield area; lived in Rockford from '88 to '96. I think WXRX was WYBR when you were there.

The only show I saw at the Speedway was some drunken toplessness during a race.

John at the Coronado is a special memory. Todd had everyone laughing.  John just made you feel comfortable and welcome.

Not sure how long they were around, but Big Cities was a tiny beer/shot bar on the east side of the river, downtown Rockford. That's where we would catch the local talent and when it was over walk to Uncle Nicks for a bite.

>>>Here's what happened on 7/4/76 at Rockford Speedway.

My first concert was '80 at Prairie Capitol Convention Center in Spngfld with Pat Travers opening for Foghat. ...lol

Saw Ted and others a 2 mile walk away on Memorial Day 1979 The actual place they played is called  Loves Park! lol

Few months later walked to see these guys

Lived across the street from Rock Cut State Park. Good times at that moment.

In 1981 (I wasn't there anymore ) the Rockford radio station got a petition to get the Rolling Stones to play Rockford on their 1981 tour. It worked/

Update from Fiona Whelan Prine

As you know, John was put on a ventilator last Saturday. He still needs quite a bit of help with his breathing. Like many patients currently in ICU beds all around the world, John has pneumonia in both lungs. He has also developed some peripheral issues that are being treated with meds, including antibiotics. He is very ill and yet I remain hopeful that he can continue to fight this devastating virus and come home where we can care for him. I don’t have the words to adequately Thank You all for the outpouring of love and prayers that John and our family have received this last week. Please continue to send Love, Prayers and Positive Energy to John. He needs us now more than ever. John loves you and I love you too.

Keep on getting better, John.

Sounds like Larry Campbell is turning the corner towards beating this scourge.

Positive thoughts for all who are struggling.

Sorry to derail the thread. I was posting the Illinois paper and got carried away with my memories in Rockford.

What a great life. Bumped for the great links.
