Jimmy Castor Bunch v. Hot Buttered Rum

Forums:

Just got a three album Jimmy Castor Bunch CD in the mail.   Hot Buttered Rum is also playing tonight at a local club.   I have seen HBRSB many times and generally got down, but last time I saw them right before the Covid shutdown, thought it was meh and left at set break.   They have a full time drummer these days and I guess that's why they dropped the "string band" suffix are are now just Hot Buttered Rum.

Anyone seen the HBR lately?   Thinking about skipping it and putting on the Jimmy Castor Bunch loud on the stereo and doing shit around the house instead.

Saw HBR outdoors in Sept. It was a free show so no obligation to stay - I stayed until the end. They did an up tempo Sugaree that I really enjoyed.

I think HBR got a drummer and dropped the "string band" moniker, like, 15 years ago or so...  I used to get DOWN at their shows but in the last 4-5 shows I saw (last one maybe 2017?) I agree they were totally 'meh'.

That said, live show vs. home stereo? GTTS!!!

Once they added the drummer I was off them.

But a live show or records while puttering?

If it's not too expensive you could go and still listen to the record later if the show isn't working.

But if it is working you'll likely be glad you went.

GTTS!
