Jerry playing slide

Forums:

Might be a noob question but I'd never seen him play with a slide until I noticed a Row Jimmy from 77 on Youtube on my TV while I was working. Did he always play one on Row Jimmy or was this a certain-era thing? Curious if any other songs featured some Jerry slide. Maybe Cosmic Charlie back in the day? We're all familiar with Weir's cat-skinning slide work but I never knew Jerry used one.

Jerry got his slide on with the blues tunes like Red Rooster & CC Rider, and at other times as well.

Sometimes it was a little sloppy, but he usually made it work.

Because he was good.

First time I saw it was at the Tower in '76 for a Row Jimmy.  I remember being really impressed that he could reach into his back pants pocket, slip it on, and then put it back all without missing a beat.

I've also noticed him using it on some '73 material, I think it appears on 6/22/73 in some jams.

Those 76 Jimmy's always reminded me of Hawaiian slack-key guitar.

Just noticed that he uses slide on the Black Peter from 10/29/77 (DeKalb), never noticed it on that song before.

Used it on row jimmy a lot. There's a version of Two souls n communion from Europe 72 tour where he takes it out and does some really cool stuff during the ride out. Passenger is one where he really utilized it well and played some really awesome stuff in 77-78

^^^^Was at Radio City on the 29th.  Electric sets are standard for early 80's, but very well done, Franklin's & Althea were really good, one of the more solid Radio City shows.^^^^

GD Production movie out take....

"Produced from the camera-original 16mm negative film, this beautiful and powerful rendition of the entire Weather Report Suite was the Dead's final performance of this Wake Of The Flood materpiece"

10/18/74, a couple really good close ups of Garcia on slide.
