Jerry Garcia studio recordings released by ex-wife

Forums:

This is a copy/paste news item...anyone heard these yet? (Perhaps this was already discussed during Insurrection week and I missed it).

A newly remastered collection of Jerry Garcia studio leftovers, “Front Street Outtakes,” released by his ex-wife Manasha Garcia this month includes recordings from a 1994 session featuring the Grateful Dead guitarist collaborating with Indian American guitarist Sanjay Mishra....

“These mixes consist of the recordings in pure form, with just the guitars and percussion, all unedited, including the tape reel running out on the first track,” Mishra said in a statement.

I love Blue Incantation so will probably pick it up

This is on Spotify, and it sounds great. Didn't realize Manasha released it.

Heard a few tracks. Nothing really special or interesting about them.

And yes, Blue Incantation was great.

Some pretty meh stuff

Ex- $$$ grab, I guess.

You prob would too

But he wasn't married to Manasha in 1994, right?

Manasha had put an ancient gypsy spell on Jerry, temporarily bounding him to her domain. It's frightening how powerful folkore incantations can be.

Pranam has a dreamy lilt, could fit in on a Crosby track or PERRO.

Dancing is a bit built of timing riffs, Tony Rice like, Fish Scale comes to mind.

Loving Sky in the same vein as Pranam.

If you like instrumental flow state music as I do you may like.

Outtakes are usually left out for a reason but I am happy to hear JG vibrations baby.

He was never married to Manasha. He dumped Manasha in 92? and went to Hawaii with Barbara Meier his old girlfriend from the early 60's and he left her in 93 after she told him she knew she was using again.

Thanks for the info, Doc. Wonder how she got her hands on these '94 recordings? Also, I understand 'Blue Incantation" was recorded during the GD's swing through the Pacific Northwest in Spring '95.  I guess these were rehearsals or something?  Glad these are seeing the light of day- but not sure the world *needs* these outtakes released with custom art and liner notes.  Wonder what the break-even for this release is- or I guess I'm wondering how many people will actually shell out for these crumbs?

Strictly based on the information given in the attached link, there are a couple problems with this story to me. Aside from not having been married to Manasha, this article says Jerry played eagle during these sessions. Why is wolf shown in the photo? It's possible Jerry played top hat, or more likely bolt if he were playing a cripe instrument, but I don't believe eagle's construction had even begun when this session would have taken place. To my knowledge it wasn't ever even finished within Jerry's lifetime. The photo booklet probably reveals some of these answers. The sounds are pretty interesting. Parrish would know hard info about this, as would a couple others much better than she probably would have. That is my own assumption. Never met the woman, but am thankful these pieces of music are now in our orbit.

Jerry "married" Manasha in 1990, but their ceremony was not particularly official, so whether they were legally married or not is questionable.

But they were more or less "married" for three years.

To me, the question is how the hell does the BW allow ANYone other than her to make a dime on Jerry's name.

Manasha must have something on her, so maybe the marriage was legal.

Let's not forget that Jerry had a daughter with Manasha, so maybe this is about giving his daughter a piece of her father's estate which she is entitled to.

And finally, a little book by Sanjay to some India into your playing.  Not affiliated.

NYC has the most legitimate answer. His daughter with Manasha.

Most of us saw Barbara's compelling part of the story in that documentary- so, the mostly frowned-on "widow" just squeezed in there Jerry's last two years or so?

Anyone know what's happened to Manasha?
