Jerry Douglas

Forums:

Jerry Douglas will be playing the Boulton Center in Bayshore, NY Sunday August,12.

Tickets are on sale for VIP members and I will bump the thread when tickets go on sale to the general public.

Jerry Douglas is my favorite (dobro) sideman, plays on at least a dozen albums I have from various artists. But I have never seen him live.

I had to grab tickets to up front, to sit at the "masters knee".

Any one here ever see Jerry Douglas with his band or solo?

That's my hometown venue which I've never been to as it opened after I left for college. Been meaning to see a show at some point during a visit. My BIL lives right near the place, is a member (I guess that means VIP member) and has seen plenty of shows there. He says the acoustics are great and I believe the capacity is less than 500. I'll let him know of this show, thanks for the heads up.

I love the place. Going to see Ian Hunter there tomorrow. If your in town and there's a show you like, God willing, I'd be there too.

I'll buy you a beer. They serve craft beer and some wines now. Bayshore is looking nice. Only 5-7 minutes from me at night.

I have really good seats for Ian Hunter, hope to snap a shot or 2.

(The lobby's are like the Fillmores with cool posters of previous shows)

Bay Shore's Main Street is a heck of a lot nicer than it was in the 80's and early 90's, that's for sure. I see Kimock and Bill Frisell will be playing there this summer

Enjoy that show tomorrow.

Yeah, much nicer in Bayshore now. Lots of new restaurants and bars.

Got third row for Kimock & Frisell.

Thank you. This Ian Hunter show was last minute show announced a few weeks ago, and all but 4 seats are sold out. Not a bad seat in the house, and yes, the sound is perfect. Pro studio quality with a huge wood stage. About 250 seats I see. I think

Really looking forward to Savoy Brown 5/12 too

saw him last year in riverside. great set.

Saw his band a few years ago and they were fantastic, definitely make this show if you can.

Seen him live a few times with different bands. One of my favorite musicians. https://youtu.be/cMiMovyQ1qQ

Bayshore gets all the good shows.

Joe goes to all the good shows too.

About 10 years ago Bella Fleck played at the Lyric theater in Stuart and we went and got a late bite to eat after the show and Jerry came in and set up his steel lap and played with a local band that was there. Good time that night.

Wow. Both shows must have been great Tim.

They guy was off my radar until he played the 2016 NYE show at the Alberta Rose Theater with old Pete Rowan.  Dude and his band tore the roof of the sucker.

I was lucky enough to be at this show.

Hey that's awesome. It's only two yeas ago. My theme song "Make Me a Pallet on the Floor. :bring it:

Fun weekend. Biggest highlight of the weekend was hearing Edgar Meyer live. I've been a fan for a long time but that was my first time. He also did a duo set with Chris Thiele on Sunday and played a solo set in a little park in town. Great festival.

Jerry Douglas will be playing at the Boulton Center in Bayshore, NY. tonight

Still descent seats left.

I'll be taking my father. He knows the subtle difference between a "Grammy Awarded" musician and one in above their head.

Looks like we'll be dining at an Asian Fusion place called Peninsula next door to the theater.  Maybe Mexican at Pico Tequlia...

We'll be lounging in the upstairs lobby well before the show. Any one else going, say hello; I'll be sporting a  David Bromberg Band T.

There's micro brew beers, wine, popcorn & pretzles.

Check it out if your interested.

My sister's family loves Pico's and orders from there all the time. I've eaten their food several times when visiting and call it hipster mexican but they make some pretty nice tacos, just not real authentic.

Enjoy the show and I love all the exposure you are giving the Boulton Theater in my beautiful hometown.

We've been MerleFest Platinum Patrons since 1998

Seen him play with many different artists and alone over the years.

a TRUE Master of the Dobro!

Thanks that's a ringing endorsement for Pico's, Across & I really appreciate it. We will go there, if not tonight soon.

Thanks for the show link, Patrick.

>>>a TRUE Master of the Dobro!

I've never seen Jerry, but he has stolen the spotlight as a guest artist on 90% of the CD's I have purchased in the last 14 years.

"Any one here ever see Jerry Douglas with his band or solo?"

Saw his band here in Wilmington at the Arden Guild Hall on 5/3/09.  Absolutely fantastic in every way.  Nothing but A list pickers, high energy and very jammy.  Not to be missed.

I picked up a cd of his in the 90's and saw him live with Allison Krauss in 2001 at Grey Fox, where he also played solo. Have seen him a couple times since with and with AKUS. He is really awesome to see.

Jerry Douglas and his band put on a phenomenal show tonight at the Boulton Center in Bayshore Long Island

This American tour that they are in the middle of is promoting the new CD "What If" (released today), which as Jerry said what if Bluegrass met Jazz.

The show and new CD have great covers of Tom Waits' 2:19 and Hey Joe, 'bluegrrassed' out.

It's a 7 piece band with two horn players. Top notch bass player, guitarist, and drummer.

Jerry schooled us on the Dobro guitar and it's capabilities in the right hands.

Touching every heartstring and emotion with instrumentals from heaven.

He played an instrumental he wrote on mushrooms, which I could highly relate to tonight....

After the show Jerry Douglas stuck around and signed CDs and met everyone.

I asked him about this jazz CD and approach came about, and he said it started out as one song & jam in the studio with the horn players.

Not only is Jerry Douglas a national treasure, he's one cool dude!

Glad that you went and had a great time.  He really is a national treasure.

How old is he? He must've been fairly young when they cut the Hillbilly Jazz album.

Which I highly recommend, if you can find it.  Douglas, Bromberg, Clements

Thanks Guys. Jerry's only 61.

I mentioned to Jerry that "probably" my favorite song the band played last night was "Where's My Uncle."

He said "that's on another CD", with Sam Bush & Bela Fleck.
