James McMurtry on back of Aoxomoxoa cover?

Forums:

I remember hearing years ago that James was in that picture. I know the Further bus stopped at Larry McMurtry's place, lending some seeming plausibility.

Not sure where I heard this from, but it must have been the old zone? I know there was also a rumor that Courtney Love was in that pic, which has since been debunked.

I did find this ID key, but it seems to leave a little wiggle-room, just thought I'd see if anyone here remembered hearing that. Not that it really matters anyway.

Very cool, had no idea on many of them in the pic. Thanks

Mickey's horse's name was "Snorter" ,,,,imagine that.

Missing from pic: Courtney Love

James would have been around 7 years old at the time.

Personally I've never heard of any involvement between Larry and the Grateful Dead. Granted they were trying to be cowboys at the time but overall seems pretty unlikely.

(cf ) chosen family = creepy...

"Tom Wolfe chronicled their early escapades in his 1968 book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, and documents their notorious 1966 trip on Kesey’s bus, from Mexico through Houston, stopping to visit Kesey's friend, novelist Larry McMurtry in 1966. Kesey was in Mexico to avoid trial on marijuana charges at the time of this trip,"

The above quote was from an article pasted on facebook, without original source info.

his weekly FB show is better than the Jorma shows...

they are.

The visit by the Pranksters with McMurtry happened on the bus trip from CA to NY, not the Mexico trip. No GD members involved.

Kesey's widow Faye eventually married Larry McMurtry.

True Turtle, the McMurtry webcasts have been stellar, playng a lot of old chestnuts along the way.

 He's got a nice audio set-up too.

Could you share a link to where McMurtrey's webcasts are playing, please? And which day of the week they are happening? Thanks

Ditto. I'm interested in the FB link, too!

Thanks, Turtle.

McMurtry is great. I have seen him live a couple times.  And he doesn't have any annoying women cluttering things up on his broadcasts.  But better than Jorma's?   Not sure of that.

Turtle, do you have a different link?

I'm getting an error on the one you posted. Thanks!

^ Thank you, Turtle! smiley

I caught the last song.

Does he stream live every Sunday?

I just started the re-stream at Turtle's last link. Thanks.

you're welcome and i believe you can just watch em off of his page whenever

^ I'll check it out.
