An informative and entertaining read about lightshow pioneer Bill Ham's life and work, starting in San Francisco in 1960 with future Family Dog founders and ending outside Paris with the Grateful Dead. He's still alive and showing his work.
Some great historical nuggets (for instance, I never knew Jerry played for his early lightshow experiments and that Bill was involved in getting the Dead to France in 1971) from an artist who personally witnessed (or was involved in) many seminal counterculture moments.

"It was present-tense art"
"It was present-tense art, in which composition, execution, and observation were simultaneous. That changed the relationships between the painter, the painting, and the viewer."
As was and did the Dead's music.
Great read, thanks.
