Ike and Tina

Forums:

Might not have been a healthy relationship, but shit, they put out some serious R&B.

In spite of the stories about Ike's abuse (which Ike denied), Tina was never a pushover and knew how to take care of business.  Stanley Booth's book "True Life Adventures of The Rolling Stones" which chronicles the Stones 1969 tour, at which Ike & Tina served as an opening act at many of the shows, has many illuminating moments where Tina demonstrates adept business management instincts and acumen.  She calls Mick Jagger out for jeopardizing her show by carrying on his affair with one of the Ikettes to the point it is affecting the woman's ability to perform her part in the Ike & Tina show.  Jagger clearly views her as an equal.

Don't matter,  but they put on a good show at winterland

if I squint I can still see the fringe on that mini dress shaking

cuz she sure was shimmying w a little honest sweat

Whole lot o power up there  Good show

Great bonus disc included with Get yer ya yas out box set

I saw them in Fresno when I was in highschool. They were pretty damned impressive.

Ike and the band opened up with an instrumental or 2.

Then the lights went out. The whole venue was dark.

And you hear a voice whisper "Tina Turner"  over and over again gaining decibels until BAM! the lights come on, the band is crank'n and Tina literally flies out onto the stage and right into "Proud Mary". Never forgot that and it was around 50 yrs ago.
