Do you think it's enchanting or terrifying to live in a world where you sincerely believe, without a trace of irony, that you know as much or more than the greatest theoretical physicist on earth?
That actually stuck with me today. Like, let's be super generous and assume they've all read five books on physics each. And then said "there is literally nothing more to learn about the cosmos and I feel sorry for all those morons at Cambridge that are taking years to learn what I mastered in three months".
They actually were sitting at their computer, on Facebook, casually saying "yes I am smarter than the greatest scientist on earth" and actually becoming defensive when people find this claim questionable.
I get being arrogant. I get the Dunning-Kruger effect. I did MMA for years and saw countless loudmouths claim to be world-class fighters as they're getting punched in the face. But science is different. Science requires results. If you are smarter than everyone else on earth and go through life believing, in your heart of hearts, that you alone contain this eldritch wisdom that make Stephen Hawking look like an idiot yet still work as a part-time freelance IT consultant, you're juggling way more mental illnessea than my slutty football brain can count.
