I was racially profiled today.

Forums:

Went to a corner market near my office today to buy a six pack and asked if they could break a hundred.  Little lady behind the counter said "Normally, we dont break hundreds, but you don't look like gangsta, I break hundred for you."  Glad I don't look like a "gangsta" but suspect if  wasn't lily white, I wouldn't have been able to complete the transaction.

>>>>I break hundred for you

old Chinese people are the worst. Sorry that happened to you Ken.

At work someone asked me what color I am. I said "I don't know. What color  am I."

When asked about my race I say "Human".

Funnier still I have had people say "You are not black."

When my DNA was analyzed & it was discovered that I had some African ancestry one of my black friends say "I knew it."

Do people who look sketchy try and rip off this proprietor on a more frequent basis? Are some of these wannabe gangsta' types white? Do you not fit the profile of these purported people they are referring to? Should the proprietor accept $100 from everyone and put their business at risk as to not offend the liberal class of PDX?

Just questions.

Good questions.

I asked the lady about the policy and she explained that a former owner had been robbed changing a $100 and warned her about it.  I am sure if I was a toothless tweaker looking white dude, she would have turned me down, but I got the sense from the way she was making a big deal out of it, that had I been a black dude dressed the same way and driving the same car, that she wouldn't have changed the $100.  Hopefully I am wrong.

What side of the river?

Westside.  Barbur Blvd just south of downtown  It's the "Barbur Market" right there on the corner of Barbur and Kelly.
