I Want You (She's So Heavy)

Forums:

I always knew Paul was doing some crazy stuff on this song, and his bass playing on Abbey Road as a whole is superb, but I came across the isolated bass today. Sick shit. Especially the outro.

Where do you guys rank Paul as a bassist? For someone who wasn't technically proficient, was known more for his songwriting and is also above average on guitar and piano, he wrote some fucking great basslines.

Silly Love Songs is his best bass line.

Brilliant bassist, impossible to pick his best playing.

Off the top of my head I'd say Something ranks right up there.

Silly Love Songs is possibly his most putrid song.

Come together is probably the most recognized.

>>>>> someone who wasn't technically proficient,

Dunno about that.

Maybe so raz but the bass line is incredible. It's a song that I used to love to hate on but eventually "got"

Paul is one of the world's most underrated bass players, probably because it is so overshadowed by his songwriting.

Silly Love Songs might be a silly song, but it is still a well crafted piece of pop music.  Fun to play on the piano.

^ the guy is just an amazing all around musician.

That's Paul hammering away on the keys on Lady Madonna. He also killed the main piano part on Rock + Roll Music as the session was running down,,, in one take !

Drumming his ass off with Steve Miller on My Dark Hour.

I don't think there's an instrument he hasn't mastered.

He played the cool guitar riff and solo on Taxman too.

His best guitar solo is Good Morning Good Morning

That Taxman solo is phenomenal.

Just recently heard an interview with Paul who said as a nod to George for letting him do the solo, he tried to play his guitar with a hint of sitar which George was heavy into at the time. I now kind'a notice it, I never did before.

That isolated bass from I Want You (She's So Heavy) is the best music that I have heard this week! Thanks for sharing .....

> Sick shit. Especially the outro.

Agreed. Probably my favorite track from Abbey Road.

The isolated bass is so, so good. Thanks for the link.

Apparently George didn't like Paul's bass in Something and thought it was too busy or perhaps Paul was trying to hijack his song. I think he came around to it though. That might be the most beautiful bassline Paul ever wrote. Here's the isolated version.

Are there any bass-only recordings of the GD?

^ get that 2nd rate hack his own isolated thread, this is Sir Paul's
