Huey Lewis cancels all 2018 shows

Well this sucks.

Huey Lewis and The News cancel all 2018 performances

Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing. Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing. The lower frequencies distort violently making it impossible to find pitch. I’ve been to the House Ear Institute, the Stanford Ear Institute, and the Mayo Clinic, hoping to find an answer. The doctors believe I have Meniere’s disease and have agreed that I can’t perform until I improve. Therefore the only prudent thing to do is to cancel all future shows. Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who’ve already bought tickets and were planning to come see us. I’m going to concentrate on getting better, and hope that one day soon I’ll be able to perform again.

Sincerely Huey”

That's terrible.

I sure hope so.

now- everyone go pick up some fresh earplugs for the big summer concert schedule-   save thy hearing  .

I remember Huey with Clover at the Lion's Share back in the 70's- great band.

That's brutal.

I had that happen (hearing loss, distorted - almost static like hearing, but it's way deep in the ear well beyond safe Q-Tip boundaries) a week or so after Phil at SPAC in '01 - it took a couple months to finally get the Meniere's disease diagnosis, although there's not much except time for treatment. In total it was 16 months for me to get back to what has become the new normal - and that's just relearning how to deal with the hearing aspect. Add in vertigo, loss of balance, the occasional random pass out - it's a total life adjustment.

I lost 90% of the hearing in my left and beyond it balancing out my face when I look in the mirror, I can still use that ear to hear on a land-line phone in a pinch, but I can turn my head at a concert and lose most everything but the cymbals. I will admit to using the deafness to my benefit with the wife and kids on occasion.

Sorry to hear it, Huey (I can make that joke) - hope all goes well in the future.
