I've been to the Jazz Festival on the same site. Fort Adams State Park on the water in Rhode Island is a beautiful place to see a show. I did laugh heartily at the boats at anchor just off shore filled with folks boogieing down.
havent been in many many years, but its great, as is Newport Jazz Fest....great area, knowledgeable and relaxed fans...pricey then, but a trip to either in mid 80s was always worth it
The lineup does not get released untill way after the tickets are put on sale and have sold out. They ALWAYS get a very good selection of bands. The festival generally is limited to around 9500 people so it is not a huge festival.
Newport at Christmas is a riot as well...someone mentioned above the ppl dancin on their boats...hit up Newport for a wknd in Dec., get a room on the Harbor, near Marinas, grab a nice dinner, then walk the marinas and look at boats, (yachts---gorgeous sailboats) decorated for xmas...some (many) will even have trees on deck, complete w wrapped gifts under...lol...and all the "lines" are strung w christmas lights....pretty cool, like most in Newport, even though alot of it is so "over the top", somehow its all tastefully done....then, late night, get off harbor view avenue...walk streets uphill direction, and you ll find some great dive bars , beach bars, most w a decent band etc...all makes for a great winter beach weekend....
oh, and if ya dont like bridges??? forget all the above
I like taking the water taxi, but only for Newport Jazz. The lineups usually deliver on that one.
I believe Turtle was the Zoner encouraged me to buy some early bird tickets one year, and that was the first and only time I've seen Wayne Shorter (he was playing with Herbie Hancock), and Chick Corea played the next day (I only had single day tickets)

May have delivered pizzas
May have delivered pizzas during the folk fest. I know I delivered some to the old 'Festival Field' (now tenement projects).
It does get a bit trafficky in old Newport, all the brick roads and narrow streets
