I’d rather give them houses with pools. My hope is that you’d have plenty of work and could afford a place of your own. But, if you’d rather shoot them...
I believe in having a border and the enforcement of it- I think most Americans agree on that general premise. The argument for "open borders" is a political mistake IMO as it pushes more moderate voters to the right.
I guess my idea would be to put the families on a plane back to their country of origin until their court date- why release into the US? It's valid to be concerned about the people who are not showing up to court and hiding out/assimilating into the US. That's just my quick take. Don't lock them up til court- just send them home until court dates. If sending home isn't an option.. let's speed up the process to be seen in court. Our immigration policy is a trainwreck..
Really, what jobs were those ? The choice ones at the poultry/meat processing plants that everyone's lining up to get ? The midnight cleaning crews @ name your local/favorite fast food restaurant ? Oh, i know, the highly sought after fruit and vegetable picking jobs those people stole from us....please, there is a reason they came here and found work. If anyone was serious, i mean SERIOUS about addressing the immigration problems in America we'd have a much more robust assimilation program where they'd be bagged, tagged and given a tax ID number ( NOT A SOCIAL SECURITY # ) that employers would have to use to make sure we were collecting their taxes for the work they are doing that very few of us have the wherewithal to do. Its not suspect to anyone at all the Real ID isnt a law ? Big Corporations have lobbied against it for years. The ( mostly conservative / Republicans ) who are for big business and against ' illegal ' immigration could have easily pushed making Real ID a law with consequences for the last 2 1/2 years but have not done a thing to stop Big BIZ from hiring them in the first place.
My answer would be zero jail time, and a processing procedure that gave them a way to be tracked when they inevitably end up at a work place.
>>>> If anyone was serious, mean SERIOUS about addressing the immigration problems in America we'd have a much more robust assimilation program
This. The economy runs on migrant labor, but the current system forces hardworking, decent people into the shadows where they are exposed to all sorts of abuses and exploitation by bad actors at every step in the process. There needs to be a much more effective, above board guest worker program that allows these folks to come in and provide the necessary labor and get paid fair wages in a safe, humane, and orderly fashion.
dude, we’re talking about giving asylum seekers and immigrants a court hearing instead of locking them indefinitely in concentration camps. the right wing talking points really don’t help address the issue. Absolutely immoral to put these people in jails, most will show up for their hearings. And yes, immigration reform is needed but when the white Supremacists/GOP would rather separate families, vilify people of color and spread false information, it’s a dead end.
Should employers be jailed for hiring undocumented workers - it IS a felony after all and yet the only ones the fascist regime is arresting are the hard working employees
You're not reading my posts correctly, Nancy. I said nothing about approving of locking them up. I think you're views are too provincial for me to continue trying to explain my point.
Nothing, other than it will likely lead to more brown people becoming citizens and voting - the GOP/white nationalists/Supremacists are aren’t going to let that happen

They didn't do anything. In order to govern effectively it's imperative to have an idea for how many people live in a given area.
So I'm understanding you and Nancy's point, you are in favor of having "open borders"?
