Get ready to see more people on that berm. Yesterday cars were triple parked in front of the park. That kind of stuff is not going to fly with terrapin. Tomorrow expect signage not allowing cars to double park and possibly more enforcement keeping people without tickets away from the building and fence. I wish they would get moving on streaming shows, that would help out a little. If things don't improve tarps may go up on the fence.
Not surprising especially with very limited ticket sales.
Haven't done that at TXR, but have seen a lot of shows from outside the "official" venue boundaries. One of the best was Merle Saunders at the old Mishawaka in Colorado. Climbed a hill just across the road and had great seats and the music was loud. Saw Ween from just outside the fence at the waterfront park in downtown Portland and had a spot near the stage that was better spot than most of the paying customers had.
The Edgefield is a good place to catch a sold out show for free. You can sit on the porch of the main building and although there is not a line of sight to the stage, the music is clearer and louder than the lawns of many sheds. As long as you are ordering beers or food, the venue doesn't mind at all. Did that for Al Green, Diana Ross, Steve Winwood, Willie Nelson, and the Barenaked Ladies.
The woods right across the creek from the Cuthbert is another great place to catch shows. Its a stone's throw from the stage with lots of freeks hanging out and partying. Saw WSP like that and even hung out there for Govt Mule/Ratdog for half the show even though I had tickets.
Heard many shows at the LA Greek theater from Griffith Park Observatory back in the 70's, it's right behind it... can't see the stage thru the trees, but there were always a dozen or 2 people recording back there....
People listen from canoes (other small craft?) in the creek next to Cuthbert, too. I've only heard one show there from outside the fence, while visiting with Mark D and Walt (Aerohead) who were inside tabling for Donate Life. I wasn't there for the show, just to visit with them. It was SCI.
>>>>People listen from canoes (other small craft?) in the creek next to Cuthbert, too.
Yep. My first show there was Phil back in 2001. There was a guy in a rowboat who kept ferrying hippies over to right under the stage. For WSP, my brother had an inflatable kayak and we took turns paddling over to the stage.

The one time I was at Cuthbert (Furthur 2011?) I recall the sound be excellent on the brownish field just on the outside of the periphery of the venue boundary behind the lawn - which was used as a parking lot. I also remember hearing them soundcheck Strawberry Fields while hanging out by the box office and noting how good it sounded.
I don't see streams stopping folks from piling into that area, and IMO the very limited ticket sales don't have much effect on this either. Even when 1,000+ tix were sold for park shows people still massed along the burm. I'm not sure how much tarping the fence would help either. Folks just like to be near the show, and on a nice day if you're parked along there during a show it can be a fun little tailgate party.
It seems like the only realistic way to stop that is to have security actively working to keep it clear, but then again that's a public street and a public area.
Still, maybe TxR together with the yacht club need to work with San Rafael to close off access to that whole back area from the back of the Grate Room once the legal parking spaces are all taken (which at least half are usually taken by the Toyota employees in the morning) or not allow people to park there at all on show days, which would likely piss off the Toyota people.
It's always something.
Nice video though. It's nice to see that area again, I miss the place.
I was planning on taking another swing by with my little dog after a walk in the park, but I guess that would be just adding to the problem.
I recall listening to a little lollapalooza while strolling past the park from the office.
A buddy at work took me out on his sailboat on Lake Michigan a couple times after work.
Never had the chance to sit on the boat outside of Northerly Island taking in some tunes.
I realize that I didn't address or answer the OP's question.
I can't recall ever having wooked a show from the outside.
I did look through a fence at the Oakland Coliseum (pre-Mt. Davis) to watch a couple of innings of a 1990 World Series game when I couldn't get a ticket, and I've watched a few innings over the years through the free archways at Giants games, but even with a decent view that has never worked for me.
I don't like being outside a venue when there is an event happening inside.
Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder is barn-like and the sound outside on a summer night is just fine<<<
I remember having a seat near the top left side and they had the "barn doors" open and people were hanging out. Unfortunately, it was a chain smoker that is etched in my mind.
I can't recall ever having wooked a show from the outside<<<
It's very rare that I travel to a show without a ticket, but Telluride Town Park is a great venue to hear from outside & I'm not always totally into whoever's playing or the price (> $300 for Pearl Jam comes to mind). The 2 or 3 Red Rocks shows up on the hillside I was shut out. I was also shut out at the last minute Cheese show at the Sheridan Opera House when they were last minute replacements for Mumford and Sons. Just uploaded a short clip. There were actually about 30 people out there at the peak.

Didn't realize it's becoming a problem there and was thinking "pre-covid" at first.
Are people respecting physical distancing and wearing masks?
I noticed some in the immediate group are not, but was giving them the benefit of the doubt in terms of them perhaps living together.
Yeah, I suppose this might devolve into a variant of a "tragedy of the commons".

Cool. I can see my old house in that video. Too bad TXR was the Seafood Peddler back then.
Yes. I encourage a stream -- keep it simple and make it cheap (5 or 10 bucks if it's with backyard players.)
