How long have you been riding BART?

Forums:

That's the first question I ask any time someone tells me they are a world traveler.

Never commuted on BART, but I've ridden it since the first Fremont - Oakland exhibition rides in '72.  My poor sister has commuted regularly on BART from the East Bay to SF for decades, poor kid.

nearly every time since my first trip in '99 -

I think overall BART is pretty great

and R.I.P. Oscar Grant

BART is an East Bay thing and I dislike public transportation in general, so I doubt I've been on it 20 times in my life.

I have friends who use it all the time and other than it not running late enough they seem to think it works OK.

for longer than my brain has been capable of retaining memories

Once, it was uneventful. Unlikely to be repeated.

never forget the first and only:

After the first show of the 4 night 91 Halloween run in Oakland (Met Owlsley for the first time. Not the drug the actual Bear. RIP Bill Graham!)

no room in the car to get back to the after party in Noe Valley

blazing I managed to figure out how to pay and ride

as we traveled under the bay I started reading the signs on the wall

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF AN EARTHQUAKE!!

>>R.I.P. Oscar Grant<<

Oscar Grant was shot and killed by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle on the platform at Fruitvale Station early New Years morning in 2009 for NO GOOD REASON. Don't ever forget. Anytime the police kill a citizen, or anyone, it's a big damn deal.

nothing like being on when a Raider game lets out and they lost again....

The overpass from the BART station to the Oakland Coliseum was often barrels of fun before and after sporting events and concerts.

LovesMeSomeBART

I used to go to Marin on the Airporter to help take care of my parents, but now I take BART to and from SFO > < N. Berkeley. It's good unless I'm feeling physically vulnerable: to get from SFO United gate to BART entails a very long walk, it can be a painful challenge for me. BART itself is fine.

BART is great for international flights as the station is right at the SFO International Terminal. That's something I have loved over the last twenty years, even if I wasn't going on a trip. So it is not a hard walk like to and from the domestic terminal. The knowledge that with a ticket and my passport I can ride BART to the airport, get on a plane and fly away to far corners of the world feels empowering, and I am pining to do it again!

Roarshock’s Public Transportation Poem

“This is my public transportation poem.

Fuck Muni!

Fuck BART!

Fuck Southwest Airlines!”

it's where MC Hammer got his start

Took BART to one of the Who's "final" tours in Oakland, maybe the second one.  Got to the Coliseum BART station, it was POURING rain.  Waited at the station for the heaviest rain to pass, watched as a few folks crossed the pedestrian bridge from the stadium toward us.  They could not have been more soaked if they had stepped fully clothed out of a swimming pool.
