That, Ken, is a hell of a lot fancier than this one for the 1/25 show:

I was there

Wow! Thanks for the link.

....did Deadheads get all up in a twist over this and similar spin-off bands back in the 70's and earlier 80's like they do today?

Not even. Garcia playing at Keystone Palo Alto or Berkley was no big deal.

Just walk right in.

The GD we're selling out stadiums and Go Ahead was playing small clubs. I wouldn't say that too many panties were in a twist.

A+

nice link :)

Shhhh.  That ho-house blooz song might get Billy canceled.

A review of the show in Sugarmegs

....."They are on fire smoking hot tonight"........

Saw Go Ahead in Utah. Setlist FM says it was the last Go Ahead show - March 11,1988. I remember a nice "Throwing Stones."

Thats my recording.. Huge story behind it,,,

Coyotte~..

Saw them several times--they were fun.  One that stands out was the  Trocadero Theatre in Philly in October of 1986 and the good old Ritz in NYC.  But, before Go Ahead, Billy and Brent had Kokomo and saw them they at the Ritz and the Chestnut Cabaret in Philly (had some beers with Krutzeman and Brent post show at the bar)

Great thread. Greasy, thanks for posting that. That poster has hung at the House of Guitars in Rochester since those shows happened.

My brother saw the Kokomo show in Rochester at the Casablanca, (I was too young to get into the club); he met Billy in the bathroom, of all places,

I think during the break (Hot Tuna opened).

He said Hello Bill and Billy goes,

"Hey man! How's it going? come over here! Listen to this!" (Yes, was drunk...) He motioned my brother to come over to the wall and said listen! "We're going to play Dark Star!" The rest of the band were apparently warming up playing Dark Star backstage. Of course my bro was like what??? Billy was grinning. Right then a guy comes up to Billy and starts jabbering about Garcia and he looks at my brother and goes, I gotta go.

Yes, they played it. Pretty funny.

The above ticket stub is from the show my wife saw at this small place in Boston. At the time she was living a block or two away on the same street, so a really local show for her. Funny that 11 days later the Grateful Dead would be playing Boreal Ridge, one of the roughest modern-era Dead shows ever.

I lived not to far from the Country Club in the 80's. Saw every JGB, Bobby and the Midnites and Go Ahead and Dinosaurs show there. Saw lot's of shows there. Saw Kris Kristofferson there once and Mohamed Ali was sitting a few tables in front of me.
