How’s Everyone Doing?

Forums:

The sun is shining and Spring has sprung. I’m off until Wednesday, looking forward to planting the garden.

The man-child just graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering, and starts his first “real” job in a few weeks. My youngest is working at the local bagel place, which is what I did exactly 30 years ago. #2 will be a camp counselor for the Summer.

I don’t usually go for max lifts at the gym, but the other day I hit a pretty big milestone that I’m proud of.

I hope that all of you are finding joy and happiness in life.

I’m ok.

Our little cat Gravy got into the cat nip bag again and made a real mess. Giblet part took in some of the nip but overall was pretty disgusted with Gravy’s behavior. She coughed up a hair ball this morning.

I’m working in Detroit this week and went for a walk along the river. You can see Canada from here. You need a passport to go there.

Or an enhanced driver’s license.

What’s that

From Wiki:

Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) in U.S. English, Enhanced Driver's Licence in Canadian English, or Enhanced ID in other common usage, is a card which functions both as driving licence and ID card with limited passport features issued in some states in the United States[1] and some provinces in Canada[2] to people who are both citizens of the country and residents in the relevant region, compliant with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

An Enhanced Driver's License is allowed to be used as an alternative to a passport for international land and sea travel, but not air travel, to countries that recognize it. The card includes machine-readable RFID and barcodefor automated identification of the card and its holder.

As a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant travel document, an EDL may be used for "official purposes" (such as boarding a domestic flight) covered by the U.S. REAL ID Act.[3] However, a U.S. state that issues only EDLs, but does not issue any other REAL ID-compliant driver's license, is not deemed compliant with the REAL ID Act unless granted an extension.[4] Likewise, REAL ID-compliant licenses alone are not sufficient to cross international borders, even if a state gives its REAL ID-compliant licenses a similar name.[5]

Enhanced Driver's Licenses are available to U.S. citizens who reside in the states of Michigan,[3][6] Minnesota,[3][7] New York,[3][8]Vermont,[3][9] and Washington.[3][10]

Life is good. Our little one is happy, healthy, and super active. I'm teaching her how to ride her tricycle this weekend, pretty excited.

We've been enjoying an amazing spring in our garden in Portland, OR.  The rhodedendron flowers have been stellar.

Dealing with some minor health issues, but who isn't?

Planting peonies after visiting a peony farm last weekend near Salem, OR... and doing some painting this weekend... no travels.

The first paella of the season may happen Sunday if we can find enough eaters. There's gotta be a paella quorum before we commit.

I'm good.  Just told my "friend" who's owed me $500 dollars since December for some money I lent him to go fuck himself because I'm tired of chasing him around.  It's too bad he wants to act like I'm a dick for asking about the money I gave him.  Oh well- fuck him.. I'm moving on.  This weekend should be fun.  Going to see Primus and going for a nice hike with my brother on Monday.  Enjoy.

>>I don’t usually go for max lifts at the gym, but the other day I hit a pretty big milestone that I’m proud of.

Nice.  I've been going hard too.

I've been doing a lot of emotional heavy lifting on the home front.

One kid just finished the school term (already!) and achieved High Honors for both semesters.

The other had a nice violin performance last night (yes, Berkeley Unified School District still has an elementary school music program thanks to local property tax increases).

I've been blowing off steam (and recharging) by power walking 5 - 10 miles per day.  Feels good!

Generally, there is much to be grateful for.

Enjoy the long weekend, those who aren't working.

Husband has an appt with his hematologist today to talk about the bone marrow transplant he needs (he was recently diagnosed with a bone marrow cancer). We are hopeful that his disease is more of a slower progressing variety, but we are also realistic that it likely is not. Either way, it's a three day weekend and we are supremely grateful for that.  Happy weekend to all!

Hello, Am I at the right place for Friday Dog Chat?

I'm a little worn down.  A little too much work and not enough play.

I did a large buy of 500 or so classic R&B and Blues 7" singles yesterday that was fun to sift through and yielded all sorts of nuggets (Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Elmo (sic) James, Albert King, James Brown, Solomon Burke, Jimmy McCracklin, B.B. King, Lee Dorsey, and a half dozen Beatles picture sleeves and a Shirelles picture sleeve).  Real nice older couple brought them in and we worked out a fair price we could both live with.  They said they'll bring their LPs next visit, which should be great.

Stayed late after putting away that buy.  Been working on a big project of reevaluating our DVD collection.  That market has mostly been in free fall as most folks stream their movies these days.  The process is interesting but tedious, as besides reconsidering price points, it involves determining what type of movie it is and who directed it, as we keep a lot of different genre sections.  We're trying to make sure things are in the right place.  Lots of good titles falling to $2 clearance prices, which makes it hard to see the value in continuing to work that market.

I just finished my year commitment to the organization I've been volunteering weekly with.  I was made a shift manager, but the head of the operation has been acting irrationally, and just fired the woman who trained all of us and was the most engaged and helpful with the volunteers over some drama that led to her questioning his management skills.  I'm thinking of turning in my keys and moving on to something else, but my co-shift leader just jumped ship, and I feel the burden of leaving the operation rudderless.  Glad I'm just a volunteer.

On a positive note, I am looking forward to grilling with my sister and brother-in-law at their place on Sunday.  It will be good to catch up with them.  The food and conversation is always great, and I don't set aside enough time for r&r.

So far, 2018 has been very very good to me.

I cut way back on partying (actually quit drinking altogether 10 months ago) and I'm feeling so much better overall (more clarity, calmness and energy) which has allowed me more time to train harder/better (and stay more injury free), so I'm get pretty fit despite this continued June-uary weather pattern (windy wet cold fog)...

\notsohumblebragmode\on

...did a 130 mile road ride 2 weeks ago that was relatively flat (6000' of climbing), and since Sunday is supposed to bring sunny weather, I'm going to attempt a hilly 145 miler with 14,500' climbing (but I have a bailout that cuts out 30 miles and 3000' of climbing).

Doing all this because I love it, plus I'm ramping up for some big events... a 160 miler from Santa Cruz to SF and back with a close knit group of friends; the 129 mile (w/15,000' of climbing) Tour of the California Alps/Death Ride near Tahoe; and a 9 day/80 mile solo Sierra backpack trip.

Yes, I am crazy.

Here's a pic that continues to make me smile: California poppies in bloom taken on a part road, part dirt 100 miler we did one month ago (near Pinnacles Nat Monument)... I'm in the back of the group, third from the left.

I'm holding you and your husband in my heart, Tracy.  Hoping for the best.

Thinking of you too, Llollo.

Sorry about the $500 debacle, Jay.

Got the ole Family Truckster loaded up and we’re heading to the mountains.

Lots of love your way Tracy.

Peace to you and healing vibes to your husband, Tracy.

(sorry, I didn't read past the first post until now).

If you need anything, Tracy, you kno where to find us.

Tracy enjoy every day.  I'm so sorry to hear that.....   Let me know if you're ever down this way in CT.

Have a great weekend folks!

Chill'n. Going to have to work my ass off this weekend to reach my rideshare income goal. With a lil luck I'll get it.

GO TURTLE, GO!

Thanks for the love, friends...

I've just come home from 2 very intense weeks of family and friend memorial gatherings, being sick, working hard together with my sisters and mom to pack and move her to an assisted living place that offers more care than where she's been, being grateful for friends and family. Good news, when I got home the dead animal smell from my bedroom wall was gone. Glad to be home.

Tracy, thinking of you and your husband. Hoping that the news is better than you are hoping... I know you are real and you guys have the power of your love helping to carry you through your days. All good wishes to you.

Sending Tracy some good vibes

hey Johnny D, thanks for the shout-out!  i have the day off today, so all Zoners are in my thoughts, too.

Judit - That's a big hump to get over, but you did it!  Bet you're glad to be home and feeling better. Hope we can connect on one of the 3 consecutive weekends that we'll be in Eugene beginning June 30.

My concerns seem pretty trivial now.

Godspeed to you all Tracy.

Garcia Birthday Band free show tonight, night 6 of a 7 night residency. So lots of weed and beer on tap. Went on Monday and band sounded great and had a lot of fun, psyched to do it again.

Going skiing this weekend, last weekend that timberline season passes are valid. Have fun Zoners!

I'm Kinda PISSED ! My Primary Doctor BAILED who I Liked !! Assigned to a New One who i have not met yet .

We have taken in my wife's mother who has dementia and a broken leg. Getting used to what is all entailed in that. The burden is mostly on my wife but she has a brother and sister close by and also help when they can. Her sister is also going thru some bone eating cancer thing, but it looks like it may be going into remission. My son will be home from Denver next week, and really looking forward to some fishing and golf with him before he heads back. Tracy, my prayers are with you.

best wishes to you and your husband tracy!

Had a great day. So happy the weather is finally nice.

Wngfan - did you see GBB last night w/ Terry Robb? I used to see Terry a lot in the 80s.. it was an excellent show, according to my guy.

Pretty, pretty good.

Had a minimum of work this shift.  I've spent more time watching GOT than working.

And now that it's past midnight, it's officially our 30th wedding anniversary.  We'll be checking out a trio playing stuff from the Buena Vista Social Club catalog tonight.  Playing the rest of the w/e by ear, weather depending.  Will celebrate proper in NOLA when Lily's school year is over.  Shhhhh.  She doesn't know yet.

Da Boy is week into a new job at a big (300+) company (mo' $$$/shares/options) while still having shares in the start-up (eight or so people) he was at.  Trading a 20-minute drive for a public-transit commute into SF, but that's where his GF works, so there's that.  But mainly, he exited an increasingly Dilbert-ish environment.

My bro and sis both saw their youngest graduate college last week (Yay, "Trouble" and "O"!).

April started shitty (a friend's suicide), but May is ending sweet.

Such is life.

Been picking this one just about every day for last few weeks:

Hi Llollo, I did not see the Thursday show with Terry Robb, although I heard people talking about it. Sounds like they did a solid blues style set, sounded like fun. Last night was more in the vein of smoking traditional dead songs.... Morning Dew, Cosmic Charlie, Playin, Lost Sailor Shakedown etc.   regretfully I won’t be there tonight for the last night of the run.

Through genetic testing, they found that he also has a mutation of the TET2 gene, placing him at higher risk of developing acute myeloid leukemia. Lots of info to digest. Thanks again to all for the kind thoughts.
