Hot Tuna Summer Tour 2017

Forums:

Just picked up the last cheaper floor seat to see Hot Tuna kick off their 2017 summer tour at the West Hampton PAC on Friday 6/30/17. After a month off.

I chose the Hot Tuna over halfway decent Dead & Co. seats, that were going for $150 a seat. Which seems crazy for a band that I don't like the lead guitar player too much yet.

Many of these 2017 Hot Tuna shows are paired up with the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and follow the summer venue tour, that the Grateful Dead trucked and made popular.

Hot Tuna is also playing NH, Vermont, SPAC, VA., RI., Rochester, Ct., Virginia Beach, Raleigh NC, Ga, In., Charlotte NC, Oh. , Mi., AR., Nm., UT., Mt., and Red Rocks.

Anyone going to the West Hampton Long Island, 6/30/17 show, let me know, I'll be by the merch. table. We'll grab a beverage. {There's some balcony seats still available}

Pretty long tour. It would be pretty cool to see them

at Red Rocks, and in the home-area Rochester Highland Park

venue.

I would have made the same choice as you in terms of what band to see

this summer.

Thanks Local County, It's a 40 minute drive fro me, and I was holding off for a show closer, but had to bust a move for the Tuna.

The 2017 Hot Tuna tour begins this Friday here on Long Island, at the West Hampton Beach Performing Arts Center-aka- WHBPAC

I looking forward to this show. Anyone else seeing Hot Tuna imminently?

The first show of the summer tour in West Hampton is without TTB

With Hot Tuna you have 100% of the original band.

Dead$Co, not so much.

Wise choice grasshopper.

I'm gonna go to the free half-step show on Friday at Cedar beach.

I hope to travel north and do a little camping with a TTB Simsbury show involved.  Anyone know of a good camp spot near that theatre?

I'm doing the Gilford NH show on Sat. can't wait, been looking forward to it for a while. The venue in NH has camping on site Trail and plenty around the area with Wier's beach being walking distance.

What is the date of the Simsbury show, that venue is about an hour 20 from my place

Its Sunday 7/9 ...630 pm start, i blv...

Lemme know if ya comin down...i mentioned it to Dogman a few weeks back, thanks for reminding me that i gotta see if he s going

Fyi..the Simsbury location is relatively new, and its just a gorgeous setting...and that night is TTB, TUNA, ,and Wood Brothers

Trailhead...theres a campsite furthur up route 44...maybe another 30 mins northwest....ill research name and post info

I've stayed in the state forest nearby before , about half hour away? I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about alternatives.  simsbury is Sunday the 9th.

Austin Hawes 877-668-2267 is a real small (30 sites) campground in that state forest area...ive camped there a few times, and love it because its so small....the combined two state forests (Peoples Forest and American Legion State Forest) are on 3,900 acres...just a great place to camp, but, its tough to get a site on any wknd in july and august...id always call, though, especially for one nighters - on a Sunday, or weekday, you may get lucky.

There s also White Pines, Lone Oaks, cpl others...but, thats the one ive been to and highly recommend...

Cheers jambone

Dead$Co, not so much.

Wise choice grasshopper.

have fun out there kids

I will be at the Simsbury show 7/9 along with a crew of nerdy old tapers.  That "venue" has always been the summer home of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, they've added a "real" stage & fenced off an area of the big grass field & added folding chairs.  My friends & I are cheaping out & buying lawn tix ($39 vs $59/$69), there's no roof so spending the extra $$$ will not keep you dry if it rains.  I figure it'll be like that Danbury place (Charles Ives Center), as soon as the music starts, the folding chairs will get stacked & it'll be a general admission free for all.

I would go to that Highland Bowl show but the Dark Continent calls.

Hot Tuna at West Hampton Performing Arts Center was very good tonight.

A spectacular version of Jorma's "Roads & Roads".

Splendid rendition of "Up in the Morning, Watch the North Wind Rise" mid show.

The show encored with a ripping version of "Hit Song #1".

Jorma's chops are spot on; but Jack's tone and dexterity are off the charts.

I'm not sure how many shows this summer tour, are in theaters, but those are not to be missed.

I was in the last row of a fairly small theater, dancing, laughing, and smoking dirt weed. Screw it.

I can't dance like Jack, like Jack can dance!

jk, did you have good time Saturday night?

The show was off the chain good, all 3 bands just killed it. I was surprised Tuna opened, thought the Wood brothers would be in that spot. Poured like a mother, but the bands put on a really good one, no funky#7 but a killer watersong and bow legged woman. TTB focused on the soul part of there catalog, I really dug the show.

Awesome. Thanks. Love Water Song.

All signs are indicating a Simsbury concert for me and Mrs trailhead.  Looking like we might splurge on a cheap hotel and walk to venue.

All signs are a late afternoon drive in that direction, although we dont have tickets...yet...we may just see how close we can get without etc...i havent been there since they remodeled....sideshow...any ideas?

Have fun guys. "Keep on Truckin' Mama, Truck my blues away"

Well it's downright Flattering anyone still thinks I may have a Clue about anything ;)  but here goes nothing about the Simsbury venue:

I haven't been there since they "upgraded" the stage & added the seating area, which is just folding chairs on the lawn & no roof.  That happened a few years ago, it shows up on Google Earth, the address is:  22 Iron Horse Blvd., Simsbury, CT 06070.  I was there years ago (2011?) for a "Hartford Symphony Pops Plays the Music of the '60's" that Lyn got Comp tix for @ work, back then it was just a field.

The venue/fields are "behind" (east/north of) the main commercial area of town, & uses the parking lots for the various businesses along the main street to the west.  Parking is limited & when that fills up they use remote parking & you have to take a school bus shuttle, so getting there early is advisable (Showtime is 6:45).  The parking area has lots of trees & green space so it's nice.  Not sure how much security/cop action preventing tailgating there is, they only have a few shows a year, last year they had Slightly Stoopid so they've dealt with "party crowds" before.

They are currently selling 4-packs of lawn tix for $70, or a single lawn is $29 (those prices w/o service charges).  Reserved seats are more but seems like not a great deal as it's just a folding chair & I recall from the similar setup @ the Charles Ives Center in Danbury those chairs get stacked pretty quickly & it turns into all GA.

Weather is supposed to be perfect.  Venue website w/info on parking/etc:

Today is the big day. The weather is nice at the box office.

Trailhead, SS, ...my friend that i woulda been going with had a knee surgery this week...(one just to make her only good knee strong enuf to handle back surgery....ugh) and she s in too much pain to go to show today...or i woulda reached out and tried for zoner meet up...

Hope ya having a blast...see a great show!!
