A Hot Looks Like Rain

Forums:

From 1987 is what we all need. Hop on Relisten or Archive, and crank the Today in History, SF Civic Auditorium 1/29/87 LLR.

Im too lazy to post a link, but damn, that shit is hot.

Feel free to hate on me for the Bobby love. I don’t care because the cheese brings a tear to my eye!

Good job making a thread bk.

I’ve made many threads, and peacefully participated in tons more.

You’re about the same age as me, right? Were you down with LLR, or was it a piss break for you?

Good ones always had Jerry kicking in the octave divider at the end.  That's kind of minimal on this one, but still a good second set version.

It’s funny, although everyone rags on the tune now, everyone seemed to enjoy the hell out of live.  Check out the cheering at the 6:00 mark of Thom’s link. Yeah, I was one of them.

I agree with Thom.

try this one from 4/9/88

*I usually got the pee breaks over around CC Rider or Rooster (so I didn't miss the Row Jimmy, Peggy O, or Candyman )

Looks Like Rain was usually too late as "stuff" was kickin in and getting real

I love the LLR > Terrapin pairing, it worked well.

This one sticks out for a lot of reasons.

Foolish > LLR > Terrapin

The best Looks Like Rains were played in '77

You know a drug band message board website is really in the shitter when a looks like rain appreciation thread pops up

'81 McNichols, I think.

Jerry had some feedback issues on a few tunes, LLR included, but he wielded it like a blade.

^^^, nah. academy of music, march 72.

Well bk, the Jerry part of the song was reason enough to not piss.

My piss song was walkin' blues.

I could never make it to the bathroom at Jerry Garcia Band shows .cheeky

You can't go wrong with Halloween '85.........

That double build up & peak at the end!

Polar vortex coming...and 11 inches of snow last night.

A Hot looks like rain can't hurt that's for sure ...

Stay safe folks

BK - I have thrown up a little in my mouth. lol

Saw it rain inside the Providence Civic Center in 82 during the song but that could have been me.

Always loved the Without a Net version.  Not sure if there was any overdubs on it or not, but I thought it was good.

I really like the Academy of Music 72 versions when Jerry played the pedal steel. Also love that Phil Sings duet style with Bobby on the 72s. '...but I'll still sing you love songs. ..' When they bring it back in 76 its Donna singing with bob.

12/1/79.

I have been listening to Boston Music Hall '76 audience recordings - and this was a surprisingly OUTSTANDING version of the song. Donna is just wonderful. Really. And Jerry

proof that LLR and Ship of Fools were perfect first set songs

"proof that LLR and Ship of Fools were perfect first set songs"

I was never happy to hear LLR in a second set, definitely first set material but I loved the days when you would get a Jerry ballad after a hot second set opening number (or two) and before the deep adventure began.

The Eugene 1990 version is awesome, also a great memory, lots of rain sounds and Phil!! Phil is so loud on this audience recording, it's ridiculous. Monster show

A number of times I saw this song it sounded like they stumbled into the ending because Weir ends the song before everyone's ready

Stanley theater is leeps and bounds the best version of that song

No other version is as good as TAKE as that version

It's as good as live take of any song, out of any show in that bands history

It was huge news and the band let a copy of it out, right after that winter short tour.

BK, when are you starting the Victim or the crime thread?

Seems like its looked like rain here more often than not. Record breaking.

speaking of Bobby songs, I was listening  to Sirius radio and they played Gonesville on Outlaw Country station. I liked it, take a listen:

Victim, you say?

The one at the Met Center in '88  "Bust out" fucked me up for the rest of the show.

That and the Escher's.

Funny that you say that. It fucked up a lot of people’s show. Not mine. I loved that tune from the first note, and had a killer second set. That and the gels.

Victim?

RFK 90

Victim > Foolish > Dark Star

That RFK was hot, but I’m partial to Deer Creek 89: Foolish > Victim > Fingers > Truckin > Smokestack.

And then, after Space, we got a China Doll and Stella.

The RFK was good. That whole show was good. Box victim foolish dark was a bit out of the ordinary but good.

i was in the orchestra pit at this show.  When Weir starting strumming the opening chords to LLR ,

Jerry groans and says off mic, “Hey Phil, Phil, Looks Like Pain”. Listen to the tapes, it’s as clear as day
