High Sierra Music Festival - Let's do this

Forums:

Working Beer Crew and have to be there Wednesday - Monday.

Awesome Lineup- Hot Weather -

Pretty much packed - resting up, lolangel

Who is in ???

I played it in 1996 & 1997 (at Bear Valley) and 2000 (In Quincy) with The Chazz Cats.  The 3rd time was with Barry Sless on Pedal Steel.

I haven't been since 2000 - but I'm gettin' back on the train and heading up Thursday AM!

Looking forward to it!

Have a great Festival Ro!

Pretty nice to be paid to drink beer...

Sending cool thoughts!!!

Ro - Got any tips for free beers?  Uuuuurp!  C U there!

$270 for just Saturday & Sunday with no late night shows either. Just ticket's and parking.

More than I want to spend for 2 days. Went in 2007, 2009 & 2011 (ALO years) and had great times. Cooling off in the beautiful feather river near camp Oakland. Kills me not to go.

Thanks, Willy!

A friends bday party will be talking place during both sets of TAB = raging:)

cant wait to hang at MSG with ya- soon come!

Treble- glad you are making it

I have been put on Grandstand 1 & 2 shifts and have been known to give out a drink or 2:)

Yay!

Just had the pleasure of introducing Fruition at the Utah Arts Festival. Nice group of folks and enjoyed hanging with them. They kicked butt.

They're on their way over. Not sure what they did (or are doing) since the show Saturday night.

Enjoy the fest everyone!

TAB'll hold ya over till bakers...

Have fun everyone!

It will be under 100 degrees this weekend, super sweet.

Does anyone have any good swimming recommendations?  I realize the river is gonna be roaring and cold but thinking there has to be someplace safe to get in or perhaps some nearby lakes?

There is a public pool on the fairgrounds property that HSMF peeps can use. Beware of the line. Water quality worsens as the fest rolls on.

Yeah, I'm not interested in that pool unless there is no other options.

Crystal Lake about an hour from Quincy looks pretty nice.

I really would be careful of the river, the Yuba River already had 3 deaths so far this summer. The water is running very fast and very cold. This video made national news last week ( I swam at this spot many times in the past)

https://yubanet.com/regional/emerald-pools-rescue-video/

Have fun and be safe smiley

Yeah Bart I was recently up on the South Fork and the flow was amazing....I agree be very careful!

Lakes seem like the answer.... I can't see to find that Crystal Lake about an hour from Quincy.....only one in SCAL and another about two hours away in Nevada City.  Can you provide more details jamjuice?

Up by camp oakland the river is more of a lagoon with a beach and rope swing. The water doesn't move fast at all.

>>I can't see to find that Crystal Lake about an hour from Quincy

roughly an hour from Quincy, near a town called LaPorte is Little Grass Valley Reservoir.

this link doesn't say if there's a day use charge.

>>>>>>> Water quality worsens as the fest rolls on.

There's P in that Ool

Poolio!

any1 have a stream link for this fest?

Any insight into this year's poster artist anyone?

Achilles Wheel will be on Sat. 12:15 to 1:30 Vaudeville Tent. Nevada City's finest   show them some support

I do like the poster with that snowy feeling

"I do like the poster with that snowy feeling"

Got a link?

KVMR will start streaming at noon PST

Starting with hometown favorites Achilles Wheel

The Little Station That Could

Showtime Folks!

http://highsierramusic.com/daily-schedule/

Ween was pretty good last night, I am still trying to get into them.

The stream is still playing the bluegrass show.

I sure was looking forward to hearing Achilles Wheel.

Achilles Wheel is on right now, ripping it up

Hope you enjoy them Slickrock

Got 'em now. Thanks Bart.

Now that was a show, one rocker after another.

Those drummers took it into hyper space

Mighty fine, mighty fine!  They kicked ass.

Do they wanna come to Utah?

Mighty fine set from the boys!

Love those guys.

You never know, They have been playing lots of Festivals this summer.

One of these days they will be on the big stage, headlining

They will be back  Sunday around 5:50

Phil seems to like them

Jackmormons + Hard Working Americans late night? Oh my. Spirit time. Jealous.

Trey's band is way better than it used to be.

A friend of mine in his late 50's who is VERY knowledgeable about all kinds of music and stays on top of the scene and goes to many shows said his recent Trey band show was one of his top concert experiences. One of the top two I think he said.

They're firing on all cylinders.

The horns sounded great last night, I still need to see this band in person for the full effect. Just like Ween the other night, I needed to be there to get my full weird on. Achilles Wheel kicked some butt yesterday, stay tune for their set today at 5:50 today. KVMR is doing a great job streaming. Gov't Mule tonight. I could not handle the Suffers, just not my cup of tea.

http://highsierramusic.com/daily-schedule/

I've watched Carolyn Wonderland since her touring days in Salt Lake (she wrote a song about the Dead Goat Saloon) and would love to record her stream and AW's, but today I'm on the mic at an afternoon wedding up at Brighton Ski Resort, so no HSMF for me today. Wasatch Mountain Club has a big cabin up there. Not back til tomorrow morning. Enjoy all.

Hey Slick, you can still catch all the HS shows on the archive for 2 weeks

http://archive.kvmr.org/

Just pick the day and time you missed

Thanks, Bart. You da man. Continued good wishes.

Yeah, u the best, Bart!

ive been sleeping on this and need to catch up!

Holy Shit that was an incredibly fun festival!
Amazing weather and a constant musical wow-factor at nearly every turn.

Hi-lights for me - Trey killed in his 2 sets - Snarky Puppy (new to me and incredible), Billy Strings - blew my mind, Earth Wind & Power with Skerik, Natalie and Jen, Polyrythmics, Warren with Eric McFadden!, Eric McFadden, Bo Carper and Lebo doing Heavy Metal Hodown, The Terrapin LP Tribute with Lebo, Stu, Murph, Jordan, Paige and Leslie, Lebo and Melvin with Bobzilla and Jay Lane - just too many great moments to remember.

Here's some fun I capped  - please share these:

Thanx Ted,nice work (and that woman singing Sunrise can really belt it out)

Definitely the finest rendition of Sunrise I've seen (cause it's the only one I've seen!)
But hell yeah - she's great. (Leslie Grant).

Thanks for the links Ted!  Some good stuff there.

By the way I finally listened to that link you posted with Barry sitting in with Chazz Cats.  That was a good show.  Chazz Cats still playing?

The Snarky Puppy songs are Gø and Tarova, both from their latest, Culcha Vulcha. Thanks for the captures. Good to hear some love for these guys, they're worth seeing. SFJazz has several shows in early March, we have tickets for the center seats above the stage, and they have a dance floor for cheap.

Dan:
I was blown away by Snarky Puppy!
There were tons of amazing funknjazz bands at HSMF but they stood out with insane skills, interesting and groove heavy songs and mad adventurousness.
Thanks for providing the song names!
I will for sure try to see one of those March shows!

MarkD:
The Chazz Cats are pretty much garaged - the leader (Chazz) backed away from everyone more than 10 years ago.
We had a great stand-in (Mark Holzinger - who was lead guitarist for Vince Welnick around the time of his sad demise) and he's still around in SF.
But there's very little motivation to get the band back together.

I'm still pals with Barry Sless (and what a talented and friendly guy he is!)

50 percent of the Chazz Cats still play in a band called Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys and we have one gig on the books this summer:
Uncle John's Rendezvous (formerly known as Dead on the Creek) up in Willits, CA (Humboldt County) on August 12!

Also - I'll be working as a Stage Hand (on Main Stage) at the upcoming Oregon Country Fair and am bound to have more vids to share next week!

Ted, did you see Bokante at HSMF? Another Michael League band with an amazing Creol singer from the Carribean? They had three guitarists, three percussionionists, vocals and bass. Very cool sound.

No Dan - Wish I had.

Here's a tip:
You can DL (in mp3) Full sets of Trey, Mike Gordon, Ween, Deer Tick and podcasts of tons more sets here:
http://archive.kvmr.org/

In all likelihood these will vanish in 2 weeks.

Ive been listening to the shows all weekend, wishing we were there...

Here's one more that I forgot I'd capped with my phone (so it's not quite as HQ - visually speaking).
Eric McFadden proves his chops here alongside Warren Haynes.
He also did a stellar job on Whipping Post:
https://youtu.be/yas7kFQL-jc

Had such a rocking time!!!

then went and saw Phil on the 4th!

wahoo!

on that archive link

which day or link contains Ween and the TAB set?

Just visit the archive.kvmr.org link and search   - Sets from Gordon, Anastasio, Ween and Deer Tick are there and they sound absolutely amazing (considering they are MP3s)

Stu Allen with Keller Williams for Grateful Gospel was really sweet

Late night Galactic and Greyboy Allstate were a highlight, too

You need to sleep a week before and after you go

the music is nonstop with pop up parties and bands all over

and the fest goes off without a hitch and the sound mix at all stages is incredible

highly recommend HSMF!
