HEMP BIOMASS FUEL VS. ALGAE BIOMASS

Forums:

Wtf?

I just heard a Mobile Oil radio ad claiming to be working towards a smaller 'footprint' by implementing algae biofuel.

I thought it was common knowledge that hemp is the world's premier renewable natural resource for biomass fuel.

Algae, hemp, whatever.  All better than fossil fuels and petrochemicals

Hemps the best though.

Im thinking all plastic -ware should be hemp as well.  Breaks down easier. What about hemp paper plates, napkins etc. If you're gonna manufacture paper plates they should have to be made from hemp.

Hemp paper bags , hemp milk/juice containers etc

Real change that can make a difference right now

Hemp gasoline

Hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4 acres of trees so there's that too.

Hemp building materials,  hemp ethanol, hemp textiles. ..

Hemp is an easy to grow crop that will yield 3-6 tons per acre.

Essential food oil and protein

Help reverse the greenhouse effect with hemp!

Wish I knew enough about algae as a source of biofuel to respond.

I do believe we need to stop mining our oceans however

Decortication is the industry which must first be built in the United States for most of the products we would like to see constructed from hemp to be made. We simply don’t have the capability, industrially to do so on a national scale.

Plants grow about 20 years faster than industry

Scientists Develop Liquid That Can Store Solar Energy For More Than a Decade

Scientist have made another step towards scaling the energy system that can store solar power for long periods.

Seems like it's been over 30 years already.

HEMP CORTICATION info...

https://www.cannabistech.com/articles/processing-hemp/

Basically, hemp converts Carbon Dioxide into Oxygen better than trees.

1 ton of hemp = 1.63 tons of CO2 absorption

1 acre of hemp removes as much CO2 as 25 acres of trees

I read up on the bio-fuel scene way back when,  and recall that certain Algae indeed were the biggest net yield crops per Acre / Hectare.

Reason being -- you can grow more cubic meters per hectare in comparison to Hemp or Sunflowers.

That link is related to the Algae -> Biofuel topic

If you were doing it for a living,  the calculations you would consider might be about  "What is the expenditure to create xxx Liters of Algae pools and extraction equipment vs.  planting xxx Acres of Hemp and pressing the Hempseed ??

What sort of equipment might I need to create a sustainable Biofuel production on my xxx acres of land ??

Are there any subsidies or low-interest loans for my particular pipe - dream ??"

Exxon/Mobil has rather deep pockets,  and can afford to play around experimenting with  Biofuels while still dealing Petroleum.

For the backyard person,  a Dodge diesel truck and two - tank system running WVO can be done for under 10 grand.

You would need a reliable source of WVO (waste vegetable oil).

Is it easier to convert corn to ethanol? Because they are already adding it to gasoline.

Does algae convert CO2 to oxygen?

There is the wood-burning truck option, as well. I read about it in the Mother Earth news a long time ago. It was cool.

Huh?

Lol, sorry. I got hypnotized by stu's talk about backyard made trucks there for a second.

anyways

I just figured hemp gets boxed out because the stigma associated with cannabis.  Maybe the farmers would rather grow corn for ethanol even though it's not as beneficial.

Imagine miles and miles of hemp in rural America

Saving the planet

There were thousands of wood-burning trucks / cars during WWII all over Europe.  Anyone can look that up.

They call it "Wood-gasification".  Warmongers used up all the petroleum,  so people figured it out.

Definitely a lot more time and effort compared to visiting the local Gas station.

http://www.elsbett.com/gb/elsbett-conversion-technology/cars-and-vans.html

The Elsbett company from Germany does one-tank conversion setups for SVO,  BioDiesel,  etc.

There they have an entire website full of information.

Really,  I stumbled into their technology when I was considering a Mercedes Diesel vehicle.

Actually the Elsbett website has changed somewhat since I last looked into it.
Used to have a fairly straightforward interface where you said "I have Mercedes 240-D year 19xx"  and they would email you a quote and parts list.

What was slightly different;  they manufactured mod-kits for your existing Mercedes or ??? vehicle.

Pre-heated tank,  different filters and injectors,  various parts and bits to make a One-Tank setup to run your Diesel vehicle on WVO.

Disco Stu! You're alive! It's great to read you, I hope you've been doing well.

The older I get and the more I research it, the more I realize that hemp truly is the solution. The algae part may be able to compete, I haven't researched it, but as far as overall cost/benefit, hemp is definitely the way to go. Hemp plastics are our only option for future development. We're never going to stop using plastics in the world, so hemp plastics is the only way to go. I imagine we'll eventually phase out fossil fuels for cars and move to electric altogether.

As for Mobile and their algae-fuel production the other day, I read an article about just that the other day. The EU is moving to make illegal advertisements that mislead the public about global warming and this algae ad was one of them. Basically, the ad says they're producing X amount of barrells of algae fuel, so it sounds pretty. In reality it represents less than 1% of their overall fuel production so it doesn't mean anything, it just looks pretty on paper.

I'm still interested in starting up a hemp-plastics industry in Chile someday, and one time I threw it out there on here: if anybody's interested or has contacts in that area, let's talk. Who knows what could happen?

Cheap labor is the future. Exploit laborers! They're stupid.

So far i haven't seen anybody growing real industrial hemp. Instead everyone is growing Cbd or Cbg biased

cannabis. I think there needs to be a shift away from that and towards industrial hemp production. Cbd and cbg production needs testing and regulation to ensure quality. Industrial hemp should be allowed without regulation. Two different animals in my opinion.

Cbd hemp ( cannabis) is for human injestion mostly medicinal and needs testing and compliance.

Industrial hemp not for consumption but rather raw materials for making paper, clothing, construction materials, plastic replacements etc....no regulation needed.

"...Hemp plastics are our only option for future development. We're never going to stop using plastics in the world, so hemp plastics is the only way to go. I imagine we'll eventually phase out fossil fuels for cars and move to electric altogether..."

Nice to see you here as well,  Mr. Jav.

So my state has declared legality on Hemp (cbd or rope) but waiting for feds to make their politics.

Naturally,  I'm anxious to raise many acres.  But I am totally unaware of the markets available.

We'll find out what goes on with the rules and regs within the next years.

I'm wondering what Farm equipment to invest in.

Might be a cbd extraction setup,  or some fiber processors.

Maybe both ?  I really need to visit the USDA Extension Service office nearby and ask a few questions.
My acreage is about ready for "Organic Certification"  pretty soon.

Invest in a good tractor. When you aren’t using it, you can rent out a service to help cover the cost of purchase and maintenance. To break new ground, 40 hp minimum. A 4wd tractor is nice but not essential. It can help you do a lot of chores besides plowing though, especially with an excavator attachment. less than 2 or so acres can be worked by hand/atv/truck labor if absolutely necessary. On standard spacing, you can grow about 1800 plants per acre. To play with the big boys, at a minimum you will need access to

2 or 3 bottom rollover plow

disc harrow

tiller

a good pump system appropriate to your irrigation needs.

planting wheel

flatbed truck

a greenhouse for your starts

a huge barn to hang your crop (or other processing system)

a sober harvest crew.

the right seed

Hey Stu good to see you online ...hempgazatte.com

'Plant based' containers on Dr. Oz...no mention of hemp. Getting boxed out of the 'discussion' entirely.

Why?

I'm thinking hemp based protein burgers would be better for us and the environment than 'impossible' burger/meat

Hempseed is the highest of any plant in essential fatty acids.

Could mass cultivation of hemp on a global scale, combined with wind and solar energy, help offset enough greenhouse gasses? so we can still eat meat and drive cars (fueled with hemp ethanol/gasoline of course) and all the the corporate/industrial polluters are forced to comply...we might have a chance

The US government needs to subsidize industrial hemp research and development.  The United Nations should take up this cause as well if they are serious about doing something about global climate change.

Thanks for the recent updates G-reg.  Turns out that Hemp cultivation is now legal in The Garden State,  with tons of red tape.

Application fee 50 bucks,  if approved,  300 for license, and $15 per acre.

They can also send out inspectors at their whim at $50 per visit.
Checking to make sure the THC is under 0.3 % or if over,  crop must be destroyed.

So I've got the fields to get a crop in,  but have not done enough research to figure out whether I want to go for CBD medicinal,  Hemp Seed for Birds and oil,  and/or Fiber.

Also curious as to how tasty they are for the Deer.  They leave my Hops alone,  but eat almost everything I plant (tomatoes,  Beans,  Peppers, Corn.)

Lets say I plant 25 acres in Hemp,  that's $375 for the acreage,  plus $350 in license fees, and $100 if there are two inspections.
$825.00 without figuring the cost of seed,  fertilizer,  fuel,  tractor maintenance.

Curious if it's a worthwhile effort as compared to simply raising Food.

all you redneck hemp farmers aren't culling your males and are pollinating my backyard fees

grrrrrrrrr
