Hear Me Roar

 Hi There Jilly...

One hit wonder with a big influence on the pantsuit as a Women's fashion statement.  She was always too cheesy for my tastes.  She made Olivia-Newton John seem gritty, and Linda Ronstadt seem visionary.

I Am Woman is an iconic song, but Delta Dawn had a better story.

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
And did I hear you say he was a-meeting you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky?

She's forty-one and her daddy still calls her "baby"
All the folks around Brownsville say she's crazy
'Cause she walks dowtown with a suitcase in her hand
Looking for a mysterious dark-haired man

In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn
Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on
Then a man of low degree stood by her side
And promised her he'd take her for his bride

Also lost Mac Davis yesterday, I Am Woman & Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me were both hit singles when I got an AM radio in my bedroom in the early 70's.

Reddy recorded one of Davis' songs, "I Believe in Music"

I like the Video clips I've seen on the 'American Bandstand' or whatever TV shows of that era.  Hellen Reddie was a good TV show performer and had a great Stage persona, but unfortunately I never got to see her live.
