Thread for what you do, use or recommend...

Took a long time but we finally found a natural toothpaste that's not trash. David's....it's great.

trying to carve out a workout space in the garage for stretching and the like.

you can also discuss fake meat and nutrition here.

I live on a river about 10 miles from a lake and hundreds of miles in either direction so spend quite a bit of time between morning rowing(Adirondack guide boat) and canoeing. I also run, trail run and bike. Xc ski in the winter but I paddle year round so most of my time is spent doing that.

A pretty cool sidebar to where I live is that there is a concert venue on the water a few miles from my house that hosts a lot of great bands every year(Warren, Tuna, RRE, YMSB, Grisman and that sort...) that we can boat to and listen. Well it’s quiet this year  but most years.

as a paddler, do you have any shoulder issues?

mine are F'd...

No I fortunately do not. I log almost 2000 miles a year but try to mix it up between rowing and paddling along with a fair amount of stretching and yoga  to stay injury free.ive been a competitive paddler for 30 years and would like to go another 20 but every year I get more concerned about injury it seems!

So I'm eating lots of Wild Raspberries last few days,  as the Season is on.

"Grade A ++ " Berries go from the bush to the Freezer for sale and preservation.

I don't know if it's possible to exist on a monodiet of these things,  but they sure are tasty.

i could become a berry-itarian.

i've had surgery on one shoulder, other ain't much better.

pilates and PT/stretching have helped along with Acupuncture

Bike daily, kayak weekly, egg white omlettes, kale smoothies, one IPA in the evening. Avoid stress and express gratitude. I'm feeling alright.

Oh shit, I've had a tough 5 months. It started in mid February with the perforated gut, surgery, ileostomy bag and week in the hospital. I healed well and was running, biking and working out in no time. The he bag was a nuisance, but it was temporary.

On June 11 I had the bag removed. The 1.5 hour surgery turned into 5 hours, and they had to make a big old incision through the used part of my ab, horizontally right next to the belly button. I was in the hospital for only one nights, but that recovery was pretty brutal. The bottom half of my digestive system wasn't asked to work for 4 months, and it wasn't happy. I was on a mellow BRAT diet for 2 weeks.

Two weeks ago today I woke up with a weird tummy ache that got progressively worse throughout the day. By 7:30 pm I was in excruciating pain, called the surgeon and rushed to the ER. I had a full blockage of the small intestine. The put an NG tube in to clear my gut so I didn't explode, jacked me on painkillers, and after 3 nights in the hospital with no food or drink the blockage cleared.

I came home, and for the next week stayed on a liquid diet. I lost 17 lbs in 3 weeks. I started eating lite foods a week ago. Everything is now healing and working somewhat properly, and I've put on a few lbs and feel pretty good. That incision point is a bitch, though. It's in a spot that I have to be very careful of. With all my scars and laparoscopy dents, my days as an ab model are done!

I just started food delivery from Trifecta so far I have to say they are surprisingly tasty. I get the clean option.

that's nuts bk.

so no weight lifting?

where's your pal ender?

No weights for another month, just walking.

Was Ender my pal? I don't know who he is.

You have been through it, BK! I hope you're fully on the other side of it all, being good to yourself.

Take care.

Damn, BK.

Hope you have a better 2nd half.

>>>I don't know who he is<<<

Do we really know who anyone is?

And about a month ago for no reason at all my left (dominant) shoulder went south, suddenly feeling like it's full of jagged marbles if I move it the wrong way. My left elbow has already been minorly fucked for a few years now from an infection, so my days of throwing 54mph fastballs have been over for a while, but I'm a lefty and the shoulder is annoying as hell.

Nothing as serious as BKs issues, but still worth whining about.

I recall John Olson from the old zone once saying that turning 60 means waking up every day wondering what will be hurting for no reason today.

I always thought that guy was pretty smart.

And closer to the point of this thread, at least I can still play the drums (poorly but it's damn fun) and that is decent exercise for he body and excellent exercise for the mind and soul.

Also on the 'health' plus side, from about the first of the year I began to be a bit concerned at my increasing alcohol consumption, so I have been taking some time off from that, about three weeks now with only a couple of short whiskies when I turned the big 6 - 0 last week, and I feel significantly better from that.

I guess three weeks isn't that long, but my habit had become nightly and in ever-increasing amounts. I miss it and am hoping to get back into a once or twice a week indulgence like I was for a long time before, but I'm in no rush at the moment.

One day at a time, isn't that the mantra?

It's good to hear from everybody on this subject/s, but the youngin's don't really get it, so I'm interested in hearing from what the boomers around here do to stay ahead of the inevitable decrepitude.

Carry on.
