Harvey Vs. Bill: Phishing Advice...

Forums:

Dear fellow Outlaws,

By all sound financial principals and advice i SHOULD NOT be going on vacation this summer given my current dire economic situation in midst of Career death/Career coma.  After some deep soul-searching i realized some serious musical Healing & re-alignment is in order...        Since The Q or even a vintage PL&F line-up (w/Molo+___;___) seems unlikely this Summer and with DNB still functionally on hiatus (continued Vibes for David & band-mates) it looks like my multi-day music experience lands squarely on Phish.

I have friends and a deep affinity for SF Bay area and obviously mid-week (shorter) visit to BGCC will rage.  Transportation is negligible (thanks BART) with many varied things to do Off-Shows and of course too many dispensaries too visit, and would likely still AirBnB a private room in City.

Alternatively i have never been to Harvey's before and always enjoy seeing shows Outdoors but NOT fan of gambling (doesn't help matters when you are broke and then supposed to enjoy a game where you lose money most of time) and do not really drink alcohol anymore (9+Yrs).  Downside to Tahoe shows is the logistics piece with renting a car.  Was thinking i should camp but am guessing the campsites you can reserve are long gone for said Show dates and having to drive a long ways after the show to reach camp is bad news.  Is it worth it to stay at Hotel on strip and walk mile to show? (HardRock?Off-Brand Names?)    Guessing Rx and Food around Tahoe will be approaching Airport pricing, so slight advantage SF.    Harvey sounds appealing but SF has special place in my heart.

Pretty solid on what/where for S.F.  What would be greatly greatly appreciated is:

Any feedback about Tahoe Vs. S.F. in terms of cost; Hikes or whatever between shows; Where to camp or stay; Dispensaries to check-out, etc..   Is the Phish-akedown Street in Tahoe so local Five-O can fill their arrest quota when circus arrives for few days or are they hands-off?   I've been to Shakedown plaza in front of BGCC and that seems like it could be kind of tame by comparison to Tahoe due to monitoring?   With legal cannabis on both side of Border not sure what to anticipate this year...

Thank you all so much for your much valued experiences and opinions.  Have a grateful day you beautiful kind people...

Sleep in a van, down by the river, or for free in a casino parking structure.

If Tahoe is set up like past years there will be two or three quality all-night after-shows in various venues close by Harvey's, which makes the little casino strip a HOPPING place after the Phish shows. Even if you don't go to the after-shows the area is lit all night long and it's fun to just roam around, especially if you are "feeling good".

The Harvey's venue itself is very laid back and comparatively intimate, with great outdoor vibes - first set daylight and sunset, second set night time with full lighting. Since the shows are middle-of-the-week the area is not jammed with tourists or too many wooks types, and even if you don't gamble you're at Lake Tahoe so there is plenty of cool stuff to do in the area during the day. The main hotels are probably very expensive, but if you act now there are quite a few slightly shabby but more affordable motels within easy walking distance to the venue and the lake. Overall the shows they've done there have been good and the overall experience has been a total blast for me & my friends.

As for the BGCC, that place is a classic rock hall that is also smaller than places they generally play, and the intensity of energy inside and the fact that it's in the middle of the big city creates a situation where the band generally has blasted the roof off that joint, and if you're in the right spot the sound can be much more powerful than Harvey's. Of course the civic isn't a comfortable, easy place overall (I love it and it's hassles, it always reminds me of Winterland and my young days going to shows, but that's me) but they will definitely be rock concerts, and you'll be in San Francisco with lots of things to goof off with during the day.

Each is a pretty different scene, and a tough choice. If I had to choose myself between the two I'd go for Tahoe because that's more of a vacation trip for me since I live the the Bay Area, but both have their positives and should be great two night runs so I imagine whichever you choose you'll have a good time.

GTTS!

^^^^That is what the Zone is all about^^^^^

Oh, and along with the "not too many wooks" comment, maybe because Tahoe is so out of the way I haven't seen much of a shakedown scene at either of the two runs they've done there, which IMO is a very good thing, and I haven't noticed much of a PO presence at all, either inside or outside the venue.

The only thing I have noticed is there have been a few police on the roof of the parking lot that looks down on the venue, but I think they're more looking for real trouble than people puffing or whatever, because I've not seen any hassles inside or outside the venue before, during or after the shows.

Maybe I've just missed that (because I'm such a clean-living fellow) but to me Tahoe has seemed to be a very laid back scene overall the two times Phish has played there.

Harvey's (no seats on the floor for Phish)...

Harvey's would be my preference ... way easier for me to deal and or decompress outside of the show in a more natural setting vs. smack dab in the center of a large metro area.

Do both (duh).
