Interesting, it's the third time today I've experienced telepathy, the guantanamera thread posted moments ago is about Guantanamo...Gitmo, I suppose I didn't notice until the 10:24 post. Kind of a random post, I just felt as if I should post it.
"This started out as a poem written in 1899 by Cuban writer Jose Marti. The poem is about a girl from Guantanamo and was written from the point of view of a Cuban revolutionary. In the early 1960s Pete Seeger heard Hector Angulo singing a Cuban folk song using Marti's words based on a traditional melody adapted by bandleader Joseito Fernandez. This was the time of the Cuban missile crisis and the peace activist Seeger decided to adapt it in honor of Marti. He combined Marti's original Spanish with spoken English and made it into a song for the peace movement."
best memory with him is last show ever attended together in Philly. that year the yankees were killin the phillies in the world series and he bade me to contain my joy
We sat near each other up in the loge at what I believe was his last Phil show (second night at the Tower, 11/12/13). Talked a lot during the break and I made sure he has lots of water. He had pretty much decided on his plan of action as far as his health was concerned by that point and it didn't work out as he had hoped. I didn't agree with it but when you heard him talk about what he was going through on a daily basis you couldn't hold it against him.
