Thanks Hoople and Rob and Judit. GREAT pic, Hoople. Did you take that? I'll post one below I think of when moving on. Congratulations to your dad on his victory!
Wishing heart strength and comfort to Rob and Judit, and a happy birthday to Rob's dad.
Funny connection, Rob. For my dad's 90th birthday, I took him to see an Anaheim Angels game in Phoenix, with a comped ticket from an announcer in the Angels organization. A great memory.
What did your dad do with Dick Enberg?
Here's a pic of my dad with two women who were tailgating in the parking lot. My old man was a chick magnet, they thought he was so cute. He said in a serious tone "Don't show that to your mother".
Judit, one of the reasons I'm not devastated by his passing is that he too, suffered with dementia and maybe some Alzheimers. Some lesions in his brain a few weeks ago started him on the quick decline with seizures and more incoherence. My mom passed two years ago and he's been wanting to "go see mom" for a while now. He wasn't happy with his circumstances. My heart goes out to you. So difficult.
Looks like there's many of us dealing with these issues.
Picture from Toroweep in the Grand Canyon. Moving to the light on the river of life.
Condolences to you and to PLF for your losses. Sending Judit, and all others sharing these special moments with our parents, positive thoughts and love.
Congrats to your dad on his medical miracle, Hoople-Head.
By the way folks, there is a Viva caregivers folder for people who need support, want to share, want to vent, or whatever. The one on the Philzone was started by mutha2k many years ago and many of us posted on it. It was good. Use the one on Viva if you feel so moved. There's little on it yet, but as time goes by more and more of us will find it a good place to be.
Sweet thoughts to all of us with aging and/or ill parents.
Mine's been gone quite a while now, but I think of Him often and still have many of his artifacts, letters, etc.
He was quite senile in his last few years, but achieved a decent façade of mental awareness.
I'm glad that I decided to spend time living nearby in his last few years. Although difficult to communicate, we still went out and had a meal, or I took him to his Doctor appointments, stuff like that.
Actually I recall one funny story... Drove Him to an appt. at Wills Eye Clinic in Philadelphia, and on the way back we stopped at the Cherry Hill Guitar Center on rte. 38. I just needed a cardboard box to UPS an acoustic to a friend in South Dakota. We're looking around in the shop, and there's hundreds of instruments on the wall.
So he's all like, "Why does an Orchestra need so many different Guitars? You can only play one at a Time."
I couldn't really argue with Him. He had a valid point. My best answer was "Dad, if you had just bought one Stratocaster or Les Paul per month, back in the 1950's and 1960's, we could all retire now."
Slick - My Dad Ran The " Big A " Scoreboard at Anaheim - Dick Enberg was a Announcer at the Time for the Angels , i went to Many Home games as a Kid ! my dad also Ran The Scoreboard at The Coliseum for NFL games as well , he also did commercials on the Scoreboards & consultation for Many MLB and NFL teams around the Country - my dad passed away in 2008
"Oh you lovely people" I love, love you! Threads like this are what has kept me clicking for 17 years! The spirit!
Dad's cancer was of the throat, 6 weeks radiation everyday, with chemo every other day, (wow are you fuckin' kidding me?)
He lost 30 pounds and is a skeleton with skin hanging off, well anyway he's put a lot of that weight back on and his strength and stamina has returned.
When I joined him this winter, he tired easily, and now he goes all day, right now he's outback cleaning his fancy pants water feature, as I sit here click click, clicking.
Tomorrow we will be at the Bakers house repairing damage done after a water main break flooded their house, while in Korea serving a mission for the latter-day saints, Dad is the caretaker for a dozen properties here in St.George. And that's a lot of work for a soon to be 75 year old man!
Slick I pirated that picture, I wonder were it's from? obvious Southern Utah, is it a sunrise or sunset?
Anyway look forward to seeing you, I just singed on for the Living Traditions Festival, and already forgot the date.
And I still have this in my storage shed of treasures...
