GS Warriors Hate Index

Forums:

To no one's surprise, GS closed Utah out with minimal effort last night, and are on their way to the Western Conference Finals.

Curious what the hate index for Curry, Durant, Green, Thompson, and the rest of the Warriors squad is in your neighborhood right now?

I'd say Curry is pushing a strong 8.7, based mostly on that smug fucking look on his stupid face, Durant is riding a 9.0 just on principle, and Green is somewhere in the low 7's (mostly because he hasn't kicked anybody in the balls. Yet.) Thompson is trending most favorably at a 5.3, because whatever.

Overall, I'd say GS is sitting solidly at an 8.0 on the Hate Index, with an expected minimum addition of +1.3 over the next series.

Your thoughts?

I grew up a Warriors fan in the BA-  relocated in the 80's

Not a fan anymore- the franchise...still a fan maybe- but Curry strikes me as a bit of a punk- Green is just a shit talking shitbird.

Talented players- yes- and a great team- but I could care less about any of it now.

Oh yeah, I'm a Jazz fan. Was hoping they would put a little more of a fight.

No hate .....just done

Perhaps hate is too strong a word.

Let's go with insufferability Index instead.

Basketball is pretty much soccer without a goalie.

>>>an expected minimum addition of +1.3 over the next series.

I don't know about that... the Utah Mormons brought the hate big time, plus a matchup against Harden could easily lower the overall GS hate index.

GO WARRIORS!

People like Harden's beard, Hall. That beard is trending at +5.8 on the Favorability Scale, which is solid.

Compare that to Curry's beard, which is currently trending at a -6.7, even among Jr. High School boys growing out their first beard; which was Curry's most sympathetic segment in our polling.

Hahaha hating on the Warriors is like hating on the retarded kid when he finally gets a date. They sucked for like 40 years straight and they have one good draft and everyone gets angry with them. Hopefully you all don't hate on the Bucks when the Greek Freak takes them to the promised land.

i liked the gs barron davis squad that put dallas away....

but all you current gs fans were rooting just as hard for that team back then....right???

durant....its just bad manners, low class, pussy move to leave your current team to the team...that just beat you..in the playoffs. poor form. really poor.

ps. fuck houston.

Turtle perfectly articulating why Durant remains at a 9.0 for everybody outside of the GS fanbase.

>>>rooting just as hard for that team back then....right???

I was... Mully/Timmy era too, though I admit I didn't watch a ton of regular season games like I do now (mostly just watched the playoffs back then).

But this GS team, like the showtime Lakers and Jordan's Bulls is damn fun to watch.

Sorry your Lakers suck, but they have had more than their share of winning (and classless players), so I don't feel too badly for you.

All other teams besides the Dubs are weak and sad and not worth my time!

Green is a POS, bigly.

agreed shuffle.

its cool hall.

Nugstradamus' post just moved the needle a bit. 8.2

If I see that annoying Muscle Milk commercial with Curry one more fucking time, we're going straight to 8.5.

Swear to god.

Mark sure does like appropriating my material and claiming it as his own.

Hey, don't forget to kick Steve Kerr while he's down.

I'm not connecting the current Warriors season with my Dad's passing, so have at it, folks.

It’s too bad that many of the long suffering GS fans who were year in and year out some of the best fans in the league got pushed out for the be seen crowd that goes now. Living in Kings country now I would take rooting for the hated team over the pile of shit they put out on the floor at the Golden Shower center.

Hate index

Ws                 Nationally       Personally

Curry               8                       6                      Would be lower if it weren't for the mouth guard

Durant             6                       1                      Keeps a low profile, takes care of business...I like his style

Green              9                       7                      Keeping the attention on him like Rodman did for the bulls.  Still....shut the f up already.

Thompson        3                      1                      lost in the mix of the other three

Cavs

Bronny            7                        7                    no one has worse bitch face.  No reason for him to be whining like he does.

Irving              3                        4                    still has work to do to climb the hate meter

Love              5                         6                    Seems like he might as well be Dwight Howard.....always shows up but rarely lives up to his talent.

Korver            4                         6                    rainin threes.....come back to my neighborhood!!!!

Don't be jelly, JR. It's very unbecoming.

>Muscle Milk commercial with Curry<

clearly the shit don't work.

personally, i think jr and mark should do a game of 21 in their best dressed outfit to settle this...

Cool. The winner gets to watch professional basketball.

The loser gets their franchise shipped to some shithole in Oklahoma.

Wait. That already happened, didn't it?

A fifteen year old girl who went to the school where I work suddenly passed away this past weekend while playing basketball, and she loved the Warriors more than anything.

I was just told minutes ago that Curry heard about it and contacted the family and wants to donate something in her honor. There are many stories like that about him.

It's an odd thing about the human condition that we tend to find ways to hate those who are successful, but Curry is a straight-up quality person in my book.

Curry lives in the East East Bay. It's hot.

>>>>i liked the gs barron davis squad that put dallas away....

>>>>but all you current gs fans were rooting just as hard for that team back then....right???

^That's about as good of an example of the bandwagon phenomenon that I can think of right now.

Goddamnit, Lance.

First the female drummer thing, now you go and kill the Curry hate machine with a heart wrenching tale of selfless compassion?

You're on a roll, dude.

lol

I spoke to Jim and we've agreed to participate together once things start heating up. You might remember Jim as a candidate for ZOY last year, and my credentials of course go without saying.

so johnnyd....was my rooing for GS during that period "bandwagoning"? or do you mean people who are current GS fans, that didn't support the club back when...?

also hall, please name some "classless" lakers players....maaaaybe van exel? what else ya got?

Shaq and Kobe

lol.

I boycotted the Lakers and basketball in general during the Kobe era. I did root for the Trailblazers to blaze and for Spree to choke PJ.

still don't care for Curry -- sorry

The recent warning letter I received from Admin precludes me from highlighting certain facts which would no doubt drive this thread towards a stratospheric post count.

I'll just say I'm looking forward to the Conference Finals, and will be rooting against GS for no other reason than pettiness and some lingering resentment towards the team for knocking the Nuggets out of the playoffs and costing George Karl is job (this was before the current GS fanbase realized they had a good team).

Best team in hoops, playing the game the way it was meant to be played. In a copycat league, this has been good for Basketball.

if you weren't from dallas, how could you have not wanted GS to win that series back in 2007. that was classic. that team was bad ass! fun stuff.

doesn't draymond green think the earth is flat? strange.

oh, and fuck golden state-be great to see them lose to LeBron in the finals again. certainly fun to watch play the game

though.

>>>doesn'tdraymond green think the earth is flat? strange.

Probably, yeah. I bet he listens to Jay Z lyrics looking for Illuminati references too.

Stever won't like this thread.

Personally, I'm bored with the NBA, but all-in on the NHL playoffs.  The NBA would be so much better if cross-checking and a penalty-box were part of the game.

Sadly, last year's Finals were more than Stever could bear.

If GS wins a title this year, he'll be back. Redemption is a sweet elixir.

Hey Turtle,

I wasn't saying anything negative about you (or others) regarding the 2006-2007 Warriors love.

First off, I was personally happy to see Nelson return to the club (I liked Montgomery when he was with Stanford, though).  But they had a not-too-good season before their amazing run to close the regular season.

I'm mainly remembering what was happening in the Bay Area when they beat the Maveriks in the first round.  It was like an explosion of "We Believe" everywhere.  It's not a criticism, but an observation that just about everyone was talking about it.

My statement reflects my ongoing desire to understand what people mean by the term  "Bandwagon."     It seems like more than a few people throw that word around without really defining the term.  And it appears to have some sort of negative connotation.  Why shouldn't people get excited when their local team is entertaining and successful?

I know: There are valid reasons for people to feel the way they do.  I just find it interesting.

And I do admit that I have an unnatural loyalty to my different communities.  I consider the Warriors and their fans to be part of my community (I live less than 10 miles and work about 3 1/2 miles from the Oakland Coliseum).  So there's that.

>>>>>>>>Sadly, last year's Finals were more than Stever could bear.

My take was that he was tired of all the shit that Zoners slung at him for his Warriors and TXR content.  IMHO, of course.

Stever was cocky about GS and talked a bunch of trash, and the zone served him his medicine, Johnny. That's how trash talk in sports works.

Happened to me with the Broncos in Superbowl XLVlll. Happened to Lance with the 49ers. We're both still posting.

Of course, the Broncos actually went on and won Superbowl 50. The 49ers, not so much.

^I agree with you on that, St. Mark.

Admittedly, I'm feeling a bit goofy this morning.   cheeky

Honest.jpg

It is what it is, brother.

If you jump in that arena, there are rules to the game. In a championship situation, you could be eating crow 50% of the time. Those are the general odds.

No better example of bandwagoning than the disappearance of SF Giants threads now that they have sunk to the bottom of the NL West.  Bandwagon jumpers are fair weather fans, Jonnny, only there for the good times.  Other than giving up on the Wizards when they changed their name from the Bullets and becoming an NBA nomad, I have always rooted for the same major sports teams I grew up with, the Orioles, Capitals and Redskins through the thick and the thin.

Big game 7 for the Caps tonight.  No matter the result, I will still be following them tomorrow.

Lolz OCLT.

Actually the Giants threads are still alive and well.....just gotta poke aorund.

The Folder doesn't count, Z.  It's when the threads start popping up in OS that you know the Bandwagon is rolling.

The Folder guys consider themselves serious sports fans. I respect that. It's their sandbox.

OS is the big stage that takes the matchups and trash talking to a whole other level of spectacle. Nobody is starting a sports thread in OS unless they're ready to take some serious shit. That's the game.

ps. can't stand harden's incessant running into people and looking for a foul. garbage.

For GS fans who are reluctant to chime in here, it is worth noting that the higher your team's Insufferability Index, generally the better and more successful your team is.

The Patriots have been at a 9.5 forever. That's a good thing, if you're a NE fan. The Lakers are always (at least) an 8.7, even when they're losing.

that's fairly accurate.

Personally, I'm bored with the NBA, but all-in on the NHL playoffs.<<<

Totally agree, Dave.

There has been some really good hockey this year.

I still wear my SF Giants hat... couple days ago, the burnout Colorado transplant cashier at the minimart saw it and started giving me shit for how bad the Giants are and how "his" Rockies are in first, but after all the winning the Giants have done in recent years, that shit doesn't even phase me, in fact, I was sort of happy that I had helped lift this poor fucker's spirits, even if it is only May.

Rockies fans really only have their delusions, Hall.

You're doing God's work there, man. Let the poor bastard have it.

Hey Denver and DC basketball fans:  Is it just me, or does JaVale McGee seem to be doing fewer stupid things since he's become a Warrior?

That's a relative term, Johnny, but I'd say so.

JR Smith could also be included in that. Sometimes, anyway.

The NBA is garbage. Has been for 20 years. Even Barkley agrees.

https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2017/05/09/charles-barkley-nhl-nba-play...

Barkley doesn't get much respect in these parts, Keith.

It all really went downhill after he retired, I'm sure.

He may be an ass but he knows garbage when he sees it. NHL edge of your seat excitement. NBA not to much. Unless you're a fan of isolations and chucking 3's.

I'll admit that I haven't watched much of the Warriors with their new lineup this year (no cable and internet has been whacky at home during the evenings), but IMHO, the Warriors have been using teamwork, quick passes, getting more people involved, etc.  Which seems much more like the type of play that made me a big fan of NHL hockey in the early '90's.

I imagine that the addition of Durant has resulted in relatively more isolations.  At least I'm not seeing what annoyed me at one point in the NBA: the Big Guy slowly dribbling at the point and directing his teammates to one corner, so he could get and easy shot/layup.

The game is different today, no doubt; but we're watching some of the greatest players of all time play right now.

Who cares what Barkley thinks?

^I hope THAT gets some folks to participate...    devil

i like barkley. think he's wrong...as he often is...

how many of you "hockey fans" have actually played the sport? i have not which limits my appreciation...

nba athletes are amongst the most well conditioned.

like football, timeouts, tv time outs, reviews have killed the game.

"chucking 3's"...is why i do not like the warriors or the no D in antonni rockets....

You don't need to play hockey to appreciate it. The speed, the skill and the hitting speak for themselves. Games 7's all over the place. Sudden death overtime. You can't beat it.

NBA you get a bunch of blowouts and sweeps till the finals. You can't compare the two.

>>>>and the hitting

lame

nhl flow, no timeouts are definitely waaaay better.

>>>"chucking 3's"...is why i do not like the warriors<<<

Common' Turtle, that's not why you don't like them.

And they don't "chuck 3's"; they work for the open shot, passing the ball and running/working always for the open shot. From the small amount of coaching I've had in the game and any conversation I've ever heard about basketball I've always heard that the best way to play offense is to move, pass the ball and work for the open shot and take it when it's there, which is pretty basic and makes a lot of sense.

It just so happens that the Warriors have two of the best 3-point shooters of all time on their team, along with a few others who are very good at it when it's an open shot, so it's just smart basketball for them to take 3's if they're open shots. Curry is the one who will take them even when not open, Thompson to a lesser degree, but Curry IS the best 3-point shooter of all time and he makes those unadvisable shots often enough that it's still smart.

So you don't like them because they play selfless team basketball, passing, hustling, working hard and being smart.

And they play great defense too.

Ugh, the Warriors style sucks and they're so easy to hate...

Right.

People hate them because they're great. It's always the way, we root for the underdog until they become great, and then we turn against them. THAT is the true fairweather fan phenomenon - that people jump on the HATE bandwagon when a team in any sport becomes great, a team that people had little or no opinion of before they became successful.

It's one thing if that team begins beating the team we root for, especially if it's a playoff or championship type deal, but otherwise it's always been odd to me. We watch professional sports to see greatness in action, and when we see it we look to knock it down.

I wonder what Freud would have said about that.

"GO WARRIORS!!!!!" is what I say.

(And I've been rooting for them since Rick Barry was the best shooter in the league and Jamaal was still Keith, so there)

Hitting is lame Slacker? I'm not talking fighting/cheap shots. I'm talking solid checks and defense. Go back to Disneyland.

Who cares? The Giro d'Italia is underway.

how many of you "hockey fans" have actually played the sport?<<<<

*raises hand*

Roller hockey here, not on the ice, and not in many years.

"I'm not saying they should be slashing at heads out there, but they're not wearing tutus either." Don Cherry

I think most zoners who don't like basketball, dislike the sport for the same reason they hate hip hop music.  Or at least that's how I read lance's post.

Hip hop artists play selfless team basketball, working hard, hustling and being smart? That's why people hate hip hop?

>>>People hate them because they're great

Wait. They're "great"? The Warriors have one Championship with this squad. One. They also just came off arguably the most embarrassing loss in NBA Finals history last season.

I understand you're excited about the team, but let's keep it in perspective here.

That brings up an interesting question: does a team or individual player have to be world champion to be great?

mostly agree lance, and thats human nature. i actually do not hate the warriors pal. they used to be like the northren clippers. im fine with them finally having success after like forever....their only player i dont like is green. but because of him, igoudala and barnes, they are good defensively.

good luck. if you are the front runner u better stand the heat...

especially since ship jumper kd came aboard...

Kind of a sports bar question there, Brian K; but obviously team greatness is measured in Championships.

I'm still chuckling from Lance's post. Y'all got the fever in the Golden State right now. Lol

So, maybe the Warriors are a great team in a historically shitty franchise?

go dubs!

most exciting sports team to watch since tebow was laying it down in the SEC

^^And during an historically shitty era of NBA basketball, as many attest.

Can someone go to txr and tell Steve r to post during the playoffs. I pissed myself a little thinking of the possibilities.

Is there an indifference index? If so, I'd give them a solid 10 out of 10.

isaiah thomas is my height...

ps. i won my nba pool which is one of the oldest fantasy systems in existence and is still tabulated by hand....its been a few yrs.

westbrook is the mvp...like he should have been last year as well....

were the Bills great?

The top level players in the game today are some of the greatest to play the game. The mid level and lower players not so great, but its a hard call to make because the game has totally changed in the past 5 or so years. Gone are the dominate bigs and the game in the lane. Assists and rebounds are now made outside the lane more often than inside the paint. I personally hope for the trapazoid to make its way to the nba and the game gets even more sleeker and faster

Another ex basketball player and roller hockey player. The basketball was up until my mid 30's, the hockey was in my upper 30's, and throw in some mens volleyball leagues during my 20's

>>>Is there an indifference index? If so, I'd give them a solid 10 out of 10

9 out of 10 actually, now that you've posted in this thread.

I think I might be less into sports than Amy Schumer's character in Trainwreck. No disrespect was intended towards the Warriors, I was just kidding around. My bad-ish.

Make that 8 out of 10.

You should probably just watch a game at this point. Maybe get a Warriors jersey.

Warriors.....meh

That shit was so grand watching them choke the big 3-1 lead to the Cavs.

What a FUCKIN'  gas!

I hope whatever team comes out of the East beats them again this year.....but I highly doubt that will be the case.

And if anyone does see stever tell him to pop on in here.....it is just basketball after all.

I called TXR and left a message for Stever with the hostess.

We'll see if he responds.

Hooper, the team coming out of the east is the cavs, time to trade in your handle

Haha

Anything can happen, Fabes.

But yeah. Cavs are coming out of the East, unless there is a catastrophic injury or something crappy like that.

I've enjoyed watching this Boston team in the playoffs though. Mentally tough, and Thomas is a really dynamic scorer when he's on.

The Thomas story has been my favorite thing of the playoffs so far, but my 4:30 wake up call makes me miss almost all of the west coast games. Cannot stand watching the cavs so far, between the over matched opponents and their inability to just bury teams make it unwatchable. I enjoy a good ass kickin in basketball, I know im in the minority on that one. Also the refs always let teams back in, but with the level of suck up and the tanking issue its been on the up lately

The Cavs had one really good game so far in that Game 3 matchup against the Pacers, but I agree with you.

I think Boston can give them a run for one or two games, but I would be shocked to see that series get past 6 games.

people that hate lebron are stupid.

It's the same hate Kobe and Jordan got, Turts.

Lance was spot on about all that.

LeBron= top 5 all time. When all is said and done with his career.

IMG_3065_0.JPGShimmy on

OK pals the Warriors play beautiful basketball

defense offense with passing  sometimes four teammates touch the ball

I believe the most assists since the showtime Lakers

top ranked in defense top rank in offense tons of fast-break points tons of hustle often almost the perfect motion offense

deal with it

and yes the Warriors choked last year up 3 to 1

and yes LeBron is probably one of the top three best players of all time

in addition to Currys injury it was  he's baiting  of Draymond Green with his testicles did not play well for me

with posting twice bitches

and I doubt Carrie will ever have the press that I Goodfriend Kobe

had on the court one of the greatest players good thing he bought his wife a 10 carat diamond ring after he assholed up t

And fairly early in my bandwagoning since you have to show credentials here I did see the Warriors kick ass on the bullets at the cow Palace for the ring. Going to Oracle or rather the arena for five or eight dollars back in the day was more enjoyable than  today to be honest

They are a great team.  I am from Boston, and a Celtics fan.

GSW are in a different league than the Celtics 17'.

GsW would smack the celtics around like it's nothing.

Cavs in 7 again would be pretty sweet. it would  be flat earther kyrie vs flat earther green!

>> how many of you "hockey fans" have actually played the sport?

Played...

Coached at the Elite Travel level...

Still play...

Played yesterday.

>>>>It's the same hate Kobe and Jordan got, Turts.

Untrue.

Kobe got hated because of the rape charge and his giving up in games like a wanker.   Jordan never did that.    Lebron got hate for selling out to Miami AND how he went about doing it.    Durant is getting similar hate but he did have the Announcement.

I agree Lebron top 5 when all is said and done.

I've been a casual NBA fan since the Celtics got good in '08.  Been a big Celts fan the last few seasons with Brad Stevens coming to town and the overall positive trajectory for the organization.  I grew up playing hockey so naturally I'm a little biased as to which sport i prefer and know more about.

With that said, I don't hate the Warriors.  I did think it was a bit weak that KD just jumped ship and joined the competition but, I mean, he's trying to win... and I can't blame him for wanting to win.

I think it's kinda lame how overblown little disputes get between the players in the NBA where, in the NHL, there is more contact and trash talking after legitmately every whistle throughout the game.

Different sport- Different culture.

Go Celtics tomorrow night!

I won $1400 on the Super Bowl this year and cashed out $1350; putting $50 on the Celtics to win the Eastern Conference at 6:1 odds.  It's a long shot, to say the least.

I like Curry, I like KD, I like Thompson and the like.

EDIT:  The talking heads here on the local sports talk stations are speculating IT is playing through an injury and doesn't look 100%.  Hope it's not true.  Bradley is already banged up and there's no way we could put up any sort of fight against the Cavs without IT at 100%

The big knock on Lebron early in his career was that he passed the ball at crunch time and passed the ball to avoid being the guy that stuck the dagger in the heart like Kobe and MJ. His legacy was also stunted by his unselfishness during the early years. Can you imagine where is personal numbers would be now if he wasn't such a team player early on?

And him leaving cleveland was a smart move, cleveland surrounded him with a bunch of jabronees that first go round. Since he came back as GM and Player/Coach its now a different story.

I would argue LeBron going to Miami was the best thing that happened to the Cavs. The organization needed a wake up call, and they got it.

I bought a Warriors hat at SFO today because of this thread.

I never used to like them, but the hats are so cool, I'm all in now.

Go Golden State!

>The organization needed a wake up call, and they got it.<<

they got some 1st round pics for sucking ass. then bitched to the commish about c.paul, THEN got love and lebron back.

fuck that son of a bitch.

>>>I bought a Warriors hat at SFO today because of this thread

Lol. That's good to hear.

Stever will be pleased.

Whelp. Huston shit the bed last night.

GS vs. San Antonio has some potential. Sorta.

ha ha no "D" - 'antoni!

The Spurs went out and did it without Parker or Leonard.

I hope they take GS to 7 games. Not saying I'd put my money on that, but I'd like to see GS get beat up a little in a brutal Conference Final.

Lol @ harden

can they just give russell the mvp now?

Looking forward to the playoffs starting up again.  smiley

GO WARRIORS!!!

The Golden State Insufferability Index is actually back down to 8.0 due to the fact that America hasn't had to watch them be Insufferable for four days.

Based on historical trends, I'm predicting an immediate bump to 8.3 by the 2nd quarter of Game 1.

If they lose this series, Index will be set at 9.1, with derisive laughter and widespread mockery. If they win this series, Index will be firmly ensconced at 9.3 with sarcastic enthusiasm and general loathing.

>>>westbrook is the mvp...like he should have been last year as well....

Westbrook is great, but there's a serious flaw in his game... both he and Hardin set new NBA records for most turnovers all time (this regular season), which totally taints his high assist average and should take him out of the MVP conversation:

Westbrook assist average 10.4, turnovers 438

vs

Curry assist average 6.6, turnovers 238

And at 30 points per game, Westbrook did average 5 more points per game than Curry, but Curry was sharing the scoriing with Durant, who averaged 25 per game, and with Klay, who averaged 22 points per game, whereas the second best scorer for OKC only averaged 16 PPG.

I'm not saying Curry should be MVP this year, but it's clear (to me anyway) who is more valuable to their team when it comes to winning.

Kobe didn't want Eddie Jones taking his buckets. He had him traded.

>Westbrook is great, but there's a serious flaw in his game... both he and Hardin set new NBA records for most turnovers all time (this regular season), which totally taints his high assist average and should take him out of the MVP conversation:<

i disagree.

westbrook has NOBODY on his team other than the tall kiwi dude. He does 99% of the ball handling. If his players can't catch the ball or shoot, you are going to have turnovers. I look at it like this; if you take that 1 player off of the team, then what? GS would still be a playoff team because, honestly everyone on the team is good. OKC should not even have made the playoffs. My NBA fantasy old school league does not count turnovers and shows reliably who the mvp is every single year... i can give you the run down of the top 5 if you care.

eddie was a cool cat slack, but inconsistent as hell.

These playoffs have been a disaster. They should have just matched up the Cavs and Warriors in a 13 game series and let the rest of the teams compete for 3rd place.

Also the 3 point line needs to be moved back. Watching players heave up bombs all game long is boring as hell.

>>>These playoffs have been a disaster. They should have just matched up the Cavs and Warriors in a 13 game series and let the rest of the teams compete for 3rd place.

Love this idea.

being the worst all time at something as important as turnovers does not equal an MVP.

>Watching players heave up bombs all game long is boring as hell.<

agreed.

golden zzzz's.....

hall, is that in fact the all time turn over record? i dunno

How do people feel about alley-oops?

I think that they're pretty cool....

BTW: I'm still not getting a good sense of how other teams may be more effective, entertaining, or likeable than the Golden State Warriors...

has a player other than kd in sports been beat in the playoffs then immediately go to their opponent in the offseason?

PU it smells like chicken.

yes, they were talking about it during last night's game (Hardin also went into record territory this season).

Turtle, my understanding is that KD had been considering the idea of joining the Warriors long before the playoffs.  I heard that he and Iguodala got along well when they were on the National Team and that he liked what he heard from Iggy about the Warriors' organization.

Maybe he thought that he could have more fun with teammates like Iggy and Curry, than with the likes of Westbrook et al.

Also, it was no secret that the Warriors were salivating for KD long before the end of the season.

I'm mainly glad that KD didn't go to the Spurs or any other team.

interesting hall, not sure it really influences my decision. would be interesting to look at his TO's last season....

and whatever johnny d. i think its a pussy move.

its like some guy just banged your gf/wife then you go out for beers with him...gross.

It would be kind of poetic if KD makes the Finals with GS only to have his dreams crushed by LeBron James again.

was shaq to the lunkers inglorious / pussy?

anyway, no time for laker hate ( or reason) show time is over (except in norcal)

is playing well Boring? interesting read here:

http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2017/5/11/15615560/nba-2017-playoffs-wa...

Jordan, the Biggest Loser for years. Kobe and Shaq, Big-time Losers. Kobe alone? Loser, couldn’t win without Shaq. Dirk: Loser. All the Boston Big 3, Losers. Lebron was the Biggest Loser in modern times, until the Heatles. Even Bird and Magic were called Losers when they beat each other. Actually, I’m not sure Bird was ever a loser, but “Tragic Johnson” certainly was called that. Only when Jordan came in the league to become the Biggest Loser were they both elevated to winners......

Discussing a team with one championship in the same apparent regard as the greatest players in modern history is one of the big reasons NBA fans find GS Insufferable.

8.1

uh kobe won 2 rings in a row w/o shaq...

and shaq to lakers pussy?

it may not have been nice of shaq, who im not that big of a fan of....but i dont recall the lakers playing or beating the magic so no....

i get you are a long term non band wagon fan brother. relax....

laker hate is funny. i get it. however laker fans dont really hate other teams....other than the celtics.

having said that, i. thomas is an mvp candidate.

This thread is once again proving that Bay Area sports teams get better play on the black screen than any other.

As well they should.

BTW, I had a nice conversation wth SteveR at TxR last night. He's doing well and is very happy about the Warriors continued success.

And Phil was great as usual. And so was the band. They're getting much better.

It's cool.

GW!

Since Steve R is obviously lurking hard on this thread ill just say it. LeBron will once again embarrass the Warriors and there will be another epic choke.

Looks like the gauntlet has been thrown down.

I think the bolder play is to pick the Spurs in 6. GS fans could blame Mike Brown for that, which would be fun.

nice foul pachulia...

Looks like they're showing a bit more mettle than

some of you folks think they're capable of.

BLAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

WWWS

(what would Wino say)

""The two-step, lead-with-your-foot closeout is not appropriate," Popovich said. "It's dangerous, it's unsportsmanlike, it's just not what anybody does to anybody else. And this particular individual has a history with that kind of action. You can go back and look in Dallas games where he got a Flagrant 2 for elbowing Patty Mills. The play where he took Kawhi down and locked him arm in Dallas and could have broken his arm."

Looks like a cool event. Just watch out where you step!

It really is pointless to discuss what happened yesterday because it will be viewed as partisan whether you believe it was an unintentional foul in a very tense playoff game (you're just a Warriors apologist) or if you believe that Patulia knew exactly what he was doing and did it on purpose specifically to hurt the Spurs best player (you're just a Warriors hater).

Either way, I do love how Popovich plays the media the way Jerry used to play the guitar. I just watched that media session. That guy never talks to the media like that, but today he's SO outraged and goes on & on.

Well played Greg, going HARD at every angle available. That guy doesn't miss a trick; he's stoking the flames of the incident, firing up his home fans & the media, keeping it a distraction for the Warriors, and possibly affecting the way the refs call the next game/s.

He's as good or better than any coach in any sport.

As for the outcome of yesterdays game, it's true that the Spurs were without their best player for about a quarter & a half, but they were leading by over 20 points when he got hurt and the Warriors were without one of their best & most important players for the entire 2nd half. If one player is that important to the Spurs they aren't going to win the series anyway.

But go ahead, cry a river Warriors haters.

(It's funny to me that many of the same people whining today that it was a dirty - i.e. intentional - act are the same ones who are always pining for the days when basketball was played by tough guys who were physical and banged inside the paint and out, not like todays game played by soft perimeter shooters allowed to roam free)

IMO it was an unfortunate, accidental foul made by a hustling but lumbering big man in a physical, very intense playoff game.

But if anyone thinks otherwise that's OK. There are also people who think Trump is doing a good job.

It so often comes down to which team we root for.

I am rooting for the Warriors, but in my personal defense, back in 2011 when the Giants Buster Posey had his ankle shattered by an out of control rookie in an extra-inning play at the plate, I am on record as arguing long & hard that it was not intentional/dirty, but an unfortunate incident made by playing the game all-out and the way it had always been taught. And that guy was way more out of control than Patulia was yesterday.

Sometimes shit just happens in sports, especially in big moments when players are flying around. But partisan fans will whine no matter the circumstances (the Giants & their fans wanted that player kicked out of the league) while others are able to look at the moment and say shit, that could have been done better but it's just the game being played hard.

Whatever, too bad for the Spurs, who maybe should have moved their feet out of the way a minute earlier when Leonard turned his ankle the first time. They left their feet in the way! That was INTENTIONAL!!!!!!!

At the end of the day, a very good win for the Dubs.

GW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could have been an accident...

sometimes it happens... however, you need to look at his history, as pop said...

14yr vet knows about closing out under a jump shooter...who was already gimpy.

and yeah, his teammates didn't help as you mentioned.

warriors were getting their asses handed to them, basically until that play. minus parker....and now leoanard...too bad, could have been a series.

you take the troll bate as well as i do buddy.

ps. its a fine line in tough vs. flagrant play.  generally stating, you don't move under a jump shooter or undercut someone in the air. sometimes shit does happen....sometimes your leg flails in the air and kicks people in the nuts....

you can take all my shit as whining if you must, just playing devils advocate against thee zone's largest bb fan club....or against bay teams in general. you know man...

I don't think you're a whiner Turtle, I'm just trying to keep with the theme of trash talk/trolling this thread has going.

Unfortunately I really don't enjoy the trash talk element of being a sports fan. A little good-natured jabbing perhaps, but it all gets tired quick for me.

Looking at the play again I think Pachulia was hustling to contest the shot closely and then turned to run the floor after the missed shot. But he's a big dude and isn't nimble.

It all happened fast and he was looking the other way when he planted his leg to start running. It's pretty clear to me that it was an unintentional if sloppy foul in a hard-fought playoff game his team was desperately trying to fight back into.

As for how the game was going, the Warriors were clearly rusty and ice cold in the first half (and were missing Iguodala) and the Spurs took full advantage and pounced on them. The Warriors almost certainly would have lost that game without the injury, but even if Leonard hadn't of gotten hurt I doubt it would have been that easy through the series.

But from what I hear from those who know more about basketball than I do, Leonard is the only guy on the Spurs who can defend Durant, so with Leonard out that pretty much gives the freakish ringer Durant an easy time, which is a much bigger problem for the Spurs than losing Leonard's offense.

But this is why the Warriors went so hard to get Durant, so they'd have that extra star scorer when teams could control Curry & Thompson (and when Thompson is more Klank than Klay) and I imagine this is why Durant came to the Warriors, so he wouldn't have to be the one true scoring machine and hero on defense trying to win a championship (living rich in the Bay Area instead of Oklahoma City might have had something to do with it too).

The injury is a shame, but it seems to me that all this just re-enforces my opinion that the NBA regular season is way too long and the playoffs are one series too long. I've been paying attention to the NBA playoffs for four years now, and every year I see just about every team lose impact players to injury. Of course that's going to happen any time the players begin playing so much harder in a playoff situation (Pachulia?) but even the best players who aren't hurt seem worn down by this point. Is it a battle to see who's the best team, or does it end up being more a battle of attrition and luck?

Either way,

Go Warriors!

Go Warriors!

So... Minus a W's melt, they would be on a simple three peat.   Guess you could say the same thing about a Jordan Bulls 8-peat minus Mike's baseball fetish.

This year (just like the last two) comes down to Lebron v. W's.  It'll be another great finals.

Difference is KD.  It was as significant as Lebron's move to South Beach. KD's move to the Bay = championship(s).

Period.

No worries though Turtle...  The ping pong balls will fall in our favor tomorrow and the gold/purple will rise again. Just as the stars, sun, etc...

I hope Cleveland wins again. The Bay Area belongs in a decades long championship drought.

Go Dodgers!

i hope we don't over pay for mid-ling "stars" vagrant...

no worries lance. i think there should maybe be 75 games...and less or no back/backs. not to mention adding 7 games instead of 5 for 1st rounds... i also feel this way about other sports, like baseball...

i was mildly annoyed by the modern warrior resurgence, but not that much, like...better the w's than like 80% of other teams....until kd packed his little kiddie backpack and migrated. i mean, well all those other dudes that went to miami basically did the same thing...

tnt

2/3 say dirty.

^Are two of those Shaq and Sir Charles?

PS: Mom trumps basketball, so I didn't watch the game.  So, I have nothing to say about the game, other than I can't believe the Warriors came back from 25 points down.

Hope that this is a wakeup call for the Dubs (I still can't get used to that name).

>>>Is it a battle to see who's the best team, or does it end up being more a battle of attrition and luck?

It's a battle to see who's the best team. The structure of the NBA Playoffs essentially assures that (unless there is some kind of catastrophic injury. That's just bad luck.)

yes, it was shaq and charles..."big men"..

Go Celtics!

I've lost some respect for Popovich as a person... dude's being a total hypocrite.

And I don't believe it's just to play the media or get in the Warrior's heads, I think he's truly outraged, yet here he is defending one of the worst offenders all time:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/05/gregg-popovich-zaza-pachulia-rant-kawhi-leonard-injury-bruce-bowen-dirty-player-foul

And here's Bruce Bowen showing how it's done intentionally:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oMYfmcWdmo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdxXvkMB6gA

Warrior's interim coach Brown quote:

“And then like at the 7:23 mark, a couple plays (after the Leonard play), Steph shot the ball, and LaMarcus Aldridge went to contest, and he went up underneath Steph and Steph avoided landing on his ankle by falling to the ground. And I even asked two of the three officials, I said, ‘Hey, that’s the same call that you just called on Zaza.’ And both of them told me that the difference was Kawhi landed on Zaza’s foot. Steph avoided landing on LaMarcus’ foot, and that’s why they didn’t call (the foul)…"

So because Steph has learned to fall down rather than land on a defender's foot (whether the foot is there intentionally or not), that's somehow not a foul on the defender??  What the fucking fuck NBA (and Popovich)?

Seriously, if you actually watched Warrior's games (and not just ESPN highlights), you would see that this shit has been happening to Curry in every game for as long as he's been in the league, yet these "manslaugherous" defenders are rarely even called for a foul, much less called out by the opposing coach (or the Zone or 2/3 of those polled on TNT, lol).

A perfect example is from the 2014 playoffs where he was mauled by 2 defenders, neither of whom gave him landing space (and no foul was called)... this could have resulted in a serious injury that could have cost the Warriors their title, but I don't remember anyone but Warrior's fans being outraged:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1--R5TyhUw

I guess chalk it up to hate being a funny thing...

Whatever

GO WARRIORS!

yeah bowen was a known guy.....

like zaza....

you don't actually watch the games, do you?

i think you can see zaza feeling for the where to place his foot. dude knew what he was doing. he also has a history...

i hope KD never wins a championship.

yes i watch games.

pyramid, we can be viva pals....

yes i watch games.

pyramid, we can be viva pals....

Well, blowing out a Leonard-less Spurs team in that guady display of a "game" gets Golden State up to an 8.4

Absolutely Insufferable.

Mark clearly doesn't appreciate professional competition.

Should the Warriors have played terrible again, like they did in the first half of the first game, just to appease the judges of decorum?

The Warriors play hustling, selfless team basketball on offense and always great defense, and that's the best way to play in any sport, and that's the best type of team to root for.

Funny how many folks look to hate greatness.

The Warriors are just too good, and clearly the Spurs are a one-trick pony, and that doesn't cut it in the big leagues.

But the Warriors will need the very important Andre Iguodala when they play a true competitor.

Go Warriors!

Did you happen to catch Game 1 of this series, Lance?

I only ask because the Warriors were getting blown out of their own building, until Leonard was injured.

Guess that takes care of the "true competitor" problem this round, eh?

Matt Barnes beat up Derek Fisher for fucking his ex wife.

I heard Fisher pays his ex wife 1.3 million in maintenance and child support per year.

True Story.

What I saw from the first game was the Warriors playing their one trap game, the one where after a long break they would be slow, stiff and ICE cold on their shots, the one they'd lose that would give everyone some blank ammo about the series.

The game where one of their most important players was limited to only 10 first half minutes. The very important player who didn't play at all tonight.

I saw a team that was all those things come back from more than 20 down late in the third quarter to win a playoff game.

Oh, the big star wasn't on the court?

I saw the better team win.

The better team is winning.

But keep trying Mark.

>>>The Warriors play hustling, selfless team basketball on offense and always great defense, and that's the best way to play in any sport<<<

You got nothin' Mark.

They're just damn good.

In all the best ways.

But look ahead, the tackle your team drafted looks good.

But that doesn't start until August.

Go Warriors!

it's gonna be great when the warriors lose again to lebron.

just great.

and if lance knew anything about basketball he'd know the spurs are indeed true competitors.

Yeah I think maybe Lance is just laying on the Insufferability as some kind of satire. I hope so anyway. Either way, 8.6

If Lance knew anything about basketball, he'd go look up the scoring differential in this series with and without Kwahi Leonard on the floor. That's a very, very telling stat.

The Warriors just aren't very good when they're facing a true beast who can play at both ends of the floor. Ya know, like Kwhai Leonard. Or LeBron James.

^agreed.

don't talk shit on d. fish...

we got some luck w/ #2 pick.

ps. fuck steve nash.

i didn't watch the game, why would i?

ball to lakers?

Regardless of how this series turns out, it's interesting how exposed GS was in that first game. Obviously their apologist bandwagon fans want to talk about "rust" and all that nonsense, but no...

They soft. Like a box of hush puppies.

ball i guess. we'll see what boston does, as they don't need a pg...

i want to smack his dad in the mouth though. jesus.

Oh, and speaking of Iguodala; you guys remember when he became a narc bitch and betrayed the Denver Nuggets while he was on their roster during their series against Golden State back in '13?

Apparently he didn't like the physical approach Denver was taking to manage Curry in that series, so he run told then Warriors coach Mark Jackson allllllll about it.

Good times.

https://www.google.com/amp/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/nba/2013/12/1/5...

You getting a big baller brand flat brim turtle?

>>>If Lance knew anything about basketball, he'd go look up the scoring differential in this series with and without Kwahi Leonard on the floor.

yeah, well, if the people who cling to that simplistic thought process knew about recent NBA history, they would know that a Durant-less Warriors team came back from being down 22 against a healthy Kawhi AND Parker at the end of the regular season (with home court advantage still up for grabs).

But keep on hatin', bustin' balls for their choke in 2016, and for signing Durant... the Warriors feed on that shit.

>You getting a big baller brand flat brim turtle?<

yeah, its a dodger cap.

designer team hall.

oh except for the frankenstien thug zaza....well every finese team needs one...

Hall, if you'd really like to bring the regular season into the discussion, then you'll have to acknowledge that the Spurs owned that matchup 2-1, and outscored GS in those games by a combined 50+ points.

Where does that inconvenient fact fit into the GS "greatness" narrative?

Mark nice thread keep on fluffing it along it's going to last at least six more warriors games

and he may be one of the top five best players of all time but when his turn comes this time LePrawn is going to get barbecued

And yes San Antonio has been special for a long time in their coach one of the all-time great's scruffy Gruffy direct and great

And not only will the dubs be way healthier Mr. Green won't let him manipulate the refs again

Keep up the strong work heathen

"Saint" Mark: what is the seeding for this tournament?

did I miss something?

>>>Mark nice thread keep on fluffing it along it's going to last at least six more warriors games

Thanks, man. I'm really, really good at the Zone. This thing is doing fantastic numbers for me, as usual.

You can see where all of this is leading if the Warriors fail to win a championship, right?

St. Mark in his best Sir Charles voice

"they soft"

I know it's satire. irony and pushing buttons

basketball has evolved, it's not about the big man no more senator Barkley

at least he gets a nice salary for being a big dumb hater or bafoon

Mark, the Spurs won the first game of the season, and then again when GS and SA rested their starters... not nearly as telling as the 22 point comeback game with home court throughout at stake.

cling on, man

>>>designer team

What does that even mean?  And Draymond was the biggest thug going until Zaza stepped under Kwiah, yet they're "soft"... Like Joel said, it's the same tired shit that's being spouted by talking heads and repeated on social media all over the country.

draymond is a bully thug, but has skills....meathead, not so much.

Turts, you're "sports" projecting... this team was 'designed' in large part by a great Laker to be like the great Laker teams.

Maybe consult Fo6 about what spirit animal road kill can guide you to this truth.

great laker teams had flash but also lunchbox players....

also 1/2 of GS's roster defected or left $$ on the table to come play there. its an all-star super star team.

Lance tries to hide the fact that he knows nothing about basketball by overwhelming us with long narratives that nobody reads.

>>>Mark, the Spurs won the first game of the season, and then again when GS and SA rested their starters... not nearly as telling as the 22 point comeback game with home court throughout at stake

Well that settles it then. The regular season only matters when we're talking about that one time GS won.

Mark, we're talking specifically about comebacks, and the Warriors very recently proved they could come back from a huge deficit against a healthy Spurs' team.

Turtle stooping to Barkley-esque hyperbole. very sad.

they wouldn't have comeback w/o durant.

en vogue....

If the Warriors get to the Finals and lose, will they go down as the biggest paper tiger in professional sports history; or do they already own that distinction based on their regular season record and subsequent meltdown in the Finals last season?

but they have really really good regular seasons....

Buffalo Bills, Mark.

It sounds like what you're saying is without their one guy SA gets blown

away like they are in a Texas tornado. Too bad they don't have more depth.

very probably, Pyramid, but what's your point (other than playing the 'if' game)?

If Curry and Bogut weren't injured in last years finals, the Warriors would have won.  If Lebron hadn't dragged his junk across Draymond's face, the Warriors would have won. If Irving hadn't been injured in the 2015 finals, the Cavs would have won.

If if if...

Mark, by winning one championship, they have already passed the hapless Buffalo Bills (as Local points out)... if they lose again this year, they will be more comparable to the 90s Braves.

I don't like San Antonio's chances without Leonard (or Parker) in this series; but the Spurs are well respected among true basketball fans for their ability as an organization to be highly competitive regardless of who is on the floor year over year.

Here they are again competing for a chance to go to the Finals. If they had taken Game 1 and stayed healthy, I would have picked them to win in 6, straight up.

Spurs are done.

C's are exhausted.

playoff Lebron is in full gear.

Should be an interesting finals.

Have two teams ever made it to the finals undefeated?  Don't think it will happen this year

Spurs will come out fired up in game 3... not sure if it will be enough, but they are a very good team and anything can happen.

zzz. designer team...

spurs can't hang w.o their 2 best players.

hopfully love is healed and can be competitive.

Love looked great last night...

The Cavs looked unstoppable last night.

Boston clearly has no answer for defending LeBron. Dude looked like a bulldozer.

put zaza on him...

don't you mean under him?

speaking of, did you see the replay of game 2 where Aldridge put the step under move on Durant?

found it.. to me it looks more intentional than zaza's, so where's the outrage (and the foul)?

scroll down for video...

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/05/lamarcus-aldridge-kevin-durant-kawhi-leonard-zaza-pachulia-closeout-video-game-2-warriors-spurs-nba

It's all but a foregone conclusion the Cavs and the Warriors will meet in the Finals again this year.

We'll learn everything we need to know about GS in how they respond after being humiliated in last season's Finals. If they win, redemption. If they lose, the "greatness" conversation vanishes and they take their emasculated place in sports history next to the Buffalo Bills, etc.

You have to feel like the pressure is firmly on them this year, as opposed to last season where LeBron's legacy as one of the all-time greats was clearly hanging in the balance.

^^yes, it looks like aldridge is feeling for the perfect placement as well.

obviously looking for pay back for what zaza did to leonard.

and watch lebron average a triple dub in the finals. that'd be great.

>>>You have to feel like the pressure is firmly on them this year, as opposed to last season where LeBron's legacy as one of the all-time greats was clearly hanging in the balance.

Nice thread Mark...per usual.

Disagree with the above though, because of that whole greatest regular season ever thing and the pressure that team lived with from about the halfway point of the season up until that final game 7.  It just got bigger and bigger.

I was stunned by Cleveland's win last year and I'll be equally stunned if they win it again this year--just can't see that happening with this GS team.  Are there people that genuinely believe this Warriors team can lose 4 games to the Cavs?

Any pics of the baby Mark?

Youngsters have a short memory base.

A loss in the last minute of the 7th game of a championship series against an excellent team with possibly the greatest (ringer) player of all time is not humiliating, and the Warriors aren't going anywhere.

Win or lose this year they'll be right back at it next year, just as they were three years ago, two and a year ago.

And Buffalo never won a championship, so that's not a valid comparison.

No team can win a championship every year.

Keep trying though Mark, you have a nice little shallow end Other Stuff sports thread going here.

Lance blowing a 3-1 lead with home court advantage is pretty humiliating no matter how you look at it.

^agreed. in fact, it's extremely humiliating. it sure was fun to watch them collapse tho.

epic, even.

> to me it looks more intentional than zaza's, so where's the outrage (and the foul)?<

he took an extra step. i don't know if he mean to or not, but he doesn't have zaza's rep...

>Lance blowing a 3-1 lead with home court advantage is pretty humiliating no matter how you look at it. <

um, especially after having "the best regular season ever"...

>>>>Disagree with the above though, because of that whole greatest regular season ever thing and the pressure that team lived with from about the halfway point of the season up until that final game 7.  It just got bigger and bigger.

Valid point, for sure. Living under that was no doubt immensely stressful on GS. Being constantly measured against Jordan's Bulls is probably the pinnacle of pressure cooker anxiety in pro basketball.

>>>Any pics of the baby Mark?

Yeah man. :) Shoot me an email.

Close game in the East right now. 103-57 after 3.

Leonard is officially out for Game 3.

GS Insufferability Index moved up one point following the announcement to 8.6

If Lance posts about the Warriors' strong fundamentals and team-first style of play before tip off, we're anticipating 8.7, possibly 8.8 depending on brevity (or lack thereof).

Fundamentals team basketball and unrestrained joy

Let's not forget a record number of assists and fantastic defense also

>>> we're anticipating 8.7, possibly 8.8 depending on brevity (or lack thereof)<<<

I didn't start this thread, I'm just responding to your babble dude.

Keep at it though, it's Other Stuff after all.

MANSLAUGHTER!

I didn't let a guy merge into traffic today because I noticed he was wearing a Warrior's jersey.  It felt good.

>>> It felt good<<<

stef.jpg

8.8

I don't feel like Steph Curry's beard is championship caliber.

Cavs look like the team to beat right now.   I'd favor them if I had to bet.

And a small collapse.

Didn't see that one coming.    Lebron has to feeling a little beat down after carrying his team every night.   Just made the finals more interesting.

Well, LeBron had a terrible night last night.

This may seem unfair (and it is), but LeBron's poor showing last night actually bumps the GS Insufferability Index up one full point. Now sitting firmly at 8.9, and clearly on trend for the 9.3 I predicted moving into the Finals.

There is just no way to like this team, on any level.

You would think being one game away from sweeping the first three rounds would put the hate index somewhere around 11

That's fair, El Nino, but a bit too aggressive.

We need to leave room for the inevitable ascension to Maximum Insufferability.

Be patient. They'll get there.

I just unfriended 3 people on Facebook for their GS fandom.

"Maximum Insufferability"

huge compliment for the most entertaining BBall there is

wondering what the CAV hate index is today  - is it down a point?

The Cavs are oddly unhateable in the current climate.

LeBron returning to his broken city, restoring their self-worth, and bringing his people sweet redemption is the feel good story of the decade.

[Sports] hate is real.

Someone has threatened Zaza's wife and young children... extra security has been deployed at the kids' school.

Even if Zaza's move was on purpose (and I'm not saying it wasn't), only a complete wacko would threaten someone's family over it.

Then again, it has been well established that the whole state of Texas is totally batshit crazy, especially when it comes to 'their' teams, so it isn't much of surprise.

Of course Popovich shares some of the responsibility for inciting these already mentally unstable 'fans', yet when asked for a comment, he said he was done talking about it.  The man's wife and little kids are being threatened in part because you likened his play (in a game where grown men throw a ball around) to manslaughter, and now you're done talking about it?

More respect for Popovich as a man has been lost.

Zaza is an unrepentant villan who has robbed the world of an entertaining Western Conference Finals. He should be held accountable for his crimes against humanity.

Not saying i support violence against his family; but a public caning or something equally severe seems appropriate.

Yeah, I wanted to see a more competitive series (which the Warriors would have won, btw), but the entertainment value of the whole State of Texas weeping shouldn't be discounted.

I can appreciate that value add, Hall.

Making Texas angry and/or sad almost always leads to unintentionally hilarious results.

Draymond Green flopping in San Antonio tonight?

9.0

people are nuts and this happens all the time in like all sports...

don't think you can say pop is inciting madness.....nutballs gonna nutball...

I just want to be honest and let everybody know I've switched to catching up on episodes of Fargo rather than endure any more of this game.

It's just become painful to watch, honestly.

i men really, just cut the league down to 12 teams.

Seriously^. This is what the once great Western Conference has been reduced to?

Absolutely pathetic.

fuck!  Irving does it again... dude just continues to show up when he's needed and when it counts the most.  I would take him over Hardin or Westbrook any day.

and dubhaters have to be feeling pretty good right now... if they go into any kind of shooting slump (and continue to turn the ball over upwards of 20 times per game like they did in game 4 in SA), they will be hard pressed to keep pace with this Cavs team.

Cavs look nice right now.

The Finals have 7 game potential; which frankly, setting the tongue in cheek ribbing aside, is all I really want as a basketball fan.

Just give us a good series.

>I would take him over Hardin or Westbrook any day.<

he's pretty good but glad you're not my gm...

Kyrie "he's a special kid" Irving. The Rondo fake pass on that one left side drive was exquisite last night.

INSANE ! I Barely Follow Basketball Anymore ! and i Mean BARELY !

Irving has become the Cavs best player. He's a stud.

Still gonna be The Dubs title this year.

I wonder who the warriors will try and buy next year if they get beat by the lebrons again.

not sure, but the Lebrons are looking at buying Bosh.

Can we have a conversation about the Ball family?

I would like to discuss Lavar and his influence over his 3 boys Lonzo, Leangelo and Lamelo. Lavar is selling Big Baller Brand sneakers for $495 in the hood.

I am already weary of mr. ball's antics...

^ haha, yea.  I heard they were actually 200 dollars more than that and that they were lying about their early sales figures.

Kid is freakin' talented.  I wouldn't be surprised if teams pass on him due to the fact they get his Dad as part of the package.

I think Lavar is vastly overplaying his hand. I respect the boldness of his alpha posture, but the expectations it places on his kids aren't really fair.

IfLonzo struggles early (he will), he becomes an immediate punchline...if he struggles longer, maybe even a cautionary tale.

Buying a 'Stay in Yo Lane' BBB t shirt is something I just might do.

On another note, Lonzo has decided not to workout for the Celtics who have the number 1 pick.

The only person I've seen wearing those BBB shirts is Lavar, and the fit looks absolutely terrible.

I would definitely size down.

East is a wrap. LeBron surpassed Jordan as the all time playoff scoring leader tonight.

I'm looking forward to the Finals. Should be a competitive series.

Me too Mark.

Hope everyone stays healthy and the Cavs play well enough to have it go 7--it'll be just like Ali/ Frazier III (Thrilla in Manilla).

Not sure who I'm rooting for but it'll probably be the Warriors cause they are Ali, quite obviously.

"I think there's just a lack of appreciation for greatness."

Fodder for Kobe / LeFlop fans?

He’s an egomaniac like Kobe. Only nutcases like Kobe and Lebron assign themselves their own nicknames. "The Chosen One" seriously?

Very well we may be living in the Steph Curry era Time will tell. He may end up being the Wayne Gretzy of the NHL, obliterating all scoring records as a little guy rather than a big muscle guy. But he has ten years to do it so lets stop swooning so much about LeFlop.

+++++

Back in the Jordan era I was selling real estate and got to look through a lot of houses. Almost all the kids had a Michael Jordan poster on the wall. They weren’t thinking about his statistics. All the posters exhibited Jordan’s ferocity. That was what they identified with. Of course Jordan had to win big, that was a given. But those who idolized him tried to feel what he felt, that ferocity. James, it seems to me, will be more a feeling of disdain. The way he scored on Boston, almost with contempt for the defender. Not that James doesn’t have a ferocity of his own, but he is a family man, not someone with an unquenchable fire. He too had to win big to justify this feeling. And Curry will appeal to an entirely different feeling. That feeling of being silky smooth. He knows what you will do before you do. He doesn’t have to overpower you, you are already dancing to his tune. When I see Curry doing his dance it is almost as if the other team’s members are his partners. The trick on Gortat, the clownishness of Gobert. They did that to themselves, but Curry made them do it, and they collaborated.

And that deadly quick release. Blink and its gone. Over four hundred threes with the best defender hanging all over him every second. More than a hundred better than the next best record, which was, anyway, his. That will appeal to many a young boy, and these are the guys who make the legends.

Basketball creates wonders. What can you do?

By the way, I think Curry is going to blow the doors off.

LeFlop?

James is more of a standup player than any of the warriors.

Cleveland in 7 games, again. can't wait.

can't believe they lost last year when up 3-1 with the best regular season record ever...

Gentleman, GS may be headed towards a level of Insufferability never before seen in any sport. A Total Ten.

Many thought this was actually impossible. Even the Patriots, despite their best efforts, have never approached a Total Ten.

>>>James is more of a standup player than any of the warriors.

4.2

Man, I don't even know when the Finals are being played.

Where does that place me on the insufferability index?

Game 1 is Thursday night, JohnnyD.

Golden State's only chance at avoiding a Total Ten at this point is to suffer a complete collapse, like they did last season.

Obviously that would make them the laughing stock of the NBA; but at least they wouldn't be completely Insufferable. People still like Jim Kelly. Just sayin'.

not knowing when your team plays in the finals is pretty insufferable....

If they lose to Lebron again, Curry and Iggy will have no choice but to jump ship and sign with the Cavs.

Just think of the hate that would engender.

>>>Even the Patriots, despite their best efforts, have never approached a Total Ten.

Disagree.   Clearly hit 12 a couple of points in the past decade.

Durant is the wild card in this series.  If he catches fire early and dominates,  GS wins. However,  if JR Smith and Korver start to light it up and LeBron plays like he did in the 2016 finals,  Cleveland takes it.

The Finals go to game 7.  Cleveland wins  after Kyrie takes big shot after big shot and buries the warriors.  Hopefully good riddance to them forever.

Should be a good series. Both team are prob more rested now than they've been the entire season after the last week and a half layover till the finals. I think the league was a bad as weak

as I've ever seen it this year. Aside from the warriors, Spurs and cavs there were no good teams at all. Spurs lost Parker and leonard and were toasts. I think the Cavs are in The Warriors heads. Last year how they came back was by kicking the warriors around in the paint, outrebounding them and shooting well. I don't think GS has really made any steps towards correcting their faults last year. I think it's Cavs in 6. Lebron can taste a fourth and shot at 5 next year. Lebron is going to be very difficult to stop. If the cavs shoot well from the perimeter and grab the boards then they will win.

pats are a solid 9 for me

I think that's a fair current rating, Turtle.

In fairness to Zang, the Pats were unquestionably heading towards the dreaded Total Ten during their undefeated season...but then, the Giants happened.

I miss Reardon.

We all miss Reardon, CB.

He'll be with us in spirit.

The Giants suck!

Lebald Shames.  Anyone else remember that one?

Poor Javale McGee apparently not smart enough to play in the series.

Shots fired y'all!

http://www.slamonline.com/nba/cavs-player-javale-mcgee-not-smart-enough-...

#slamonline

Did Reardon get the boot? He finally got his Lebron conspiracy right last year.

I'm not sure Reardon made the transition to Viva at all.

Guessing the sparkly unicorn enforced "good vibes" completely ruined the Zone for him, like it has for a lot of people.

>>GS may be headed towards a level of Insufferability never before seen in any sport. A Total Ten.

a Total Ten on the sports insufferability scale is defined by the New York Yankees.

the Patriots have definitely exceeded 10 at times. the Warriors need to win at least one more championship to even reach 9.5.

that is pretty accurate.

I must have missed the whole positive unicorn thing. I've been asshole the whole time.

Luckily for he Warriors the West was terrible this year. The reason why their record was so good, IMO. Cavs will win game 1. I feel like they were more chasing the "Total Ten" last year, and then they got beat. Buncha primodannas on that team. Green started comparing them to Showtime and the bulls after their game four win last year ( right before they lost the next 3). Sorry but those teams would have wiped the floor with the warriors. No contest. The level of competition back then  would have gave the warriors a losing record during the regular season. When looking at the match ups I mean it would be prettt funny to watch if it was possible. Scottie Pippen said it would be over pretty quick.

Any Austin Rivers fans out there?  Big Baby sure isn't:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BUx4_sYhOrl/

It begins tonight. So much hanging in the balance for GS.

A win will no doubt prompt a flurry of braggadocio for our resident Warriors fan base. A loss will likely be met with stunned silence.

Does anybody have any thoughts about the size of the chip on LeBron's shoulder going into this series after the disgusting display of vandalism on his 20 million dollar home in CA?

> Big Baby<

remember when KG made him cry?

My guess is Lebron is gonna come out firing on all cylinders tonight. Not hat he needs anymore extra motivation after basically every single sports commentator has chosen GS to win like last year.

I think that's a reasonable prediction, Mr. Timpane.

Anybody want to take the over/under on LeBron putting up 30 tonight? How about the over/under on Curry at 20?

I'm not a betting man but I'd take over on both. Cavs win in a close one.

If Curry puts up 30+, it's really hard to beat GS. He actually put up less than 20 in four games during last season's Finals, and we all know how that worked out.

Obviously KD is a huge factor in this series. I think it's reasonable to expect he either locks down Finals MVP with a stellar performance, or ends up throwing up the clangers that doomed OKC in last season's Western Conference Finals. Man, that kid is under so much pressure. If GS whiffs this year, he's going to have a long off-season. Arguably the biggest donkey in modern NBA history, if he doesn't walk away with a ring. Hee-hawww!

I just hope Mark doesn't find out about the good luck toaster...

I'm only here to facilitate the discussion, LCL.

I feel like the Zoners who struggle to carry their threads beyond single or low teen digits can learn a lot from my thread hosting prowess here.

2 hours and 53 minutes to go. I'll be putting on my Mark Price jersey shortly.

I'm wearing my 2013 Denver Nuggets Adidas vintage throwback t shirt.

Never forget.

Hard to disagree with you there, Mark. If Curry scores over 30 and KD is puting up MVP numbers then there is no chance for any team. Ultimately, for the Cavs it's the same game plan as the last four games of the finals last year. Get out on the perimeter and get in their faces. They forced them to beat them in the paint last year and it was a brilliant series changing plan by Lue. This year they have KD to deal with but Lebron will take care of him on defense. If cavs don't shoot well then they will not win the series though. Another match up that is going to be big is Lue vs. Mike Brown. If this thin goes 6/7 games will he have the game plan and adjustments to win? I'm excited for this series if you can't tell. Always loved playoff basketball.

Warriors game plan:

EVERYONE CHUCK A 3!!!!

Lol Turtle

>>>I'm excited for this series if you can't tell. Always loved playoff basketball.

Me too, man. Can't wait.

Well that was Insufferable.

The Cavs better clean up those turnovers and get their defensive rotations fixed if they want to be competitive in this series.

GS getting away with murder basically the entire game. Giving them a 9.4, maybe 9.5 tonight.

kd #easywayout

Story was in the paint tonight. Cleveland outscored 56-30 there.

That's a tough proposition; deciding if you're going to stay with the outside shooters, or close inside.

Cavs no chance with so many turnovers, esp by Leprawn

I thought the "king's" defense was atrocious all night

The esteemed Zach Lowe, an analyst many of us respect, said of Draymond that he’s the "smartest defender he’s ever seen" about 3 times in his podcasts, while long time coach and mentor of former NBA prodigies, David Thorpe, said Draymond is doing things defensively never witnessed before in his 30-something(?) years of hoops involvement.

Just a quick reminder to GS fans that Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be broadcast on ABC at 5 pm Pacific time.

Derek Fisher super genius. Could have killed Barnes' baby momma.

Derek Fisher arrested for DUI after car crash:

Dfish has been mentioned twice in this thread. Neither time was positive.

Let's not forget the time  Iverson crossed over d fish, stuck a shot in his eye and stepped over his dead body.  That's an all time NBA memory.

Santana is rocking it!

trending upward

GS now 15-0 in the postseason.

9.8 Insufferability Index.

Great is great.

Hating it is something to ponder.

And Kerr is hurting.

It's easy to see.

But he doesn't want to miss out.

Hate that.

One massive choke from a three-peat.

W's will be big favorites next year but when history is reviewed, that 3-1 lead will always be remembered.

Last year will be the asterisk to one of the biggest dynasties in modern hoops history.

((((Hate))))

Lol

I see what you did there, Hall.

Curry doesn't have even a smidge of sportsmanship in him! Come on Durant teach the egotistical punk how to have some sportsmanship like you!!!

Sorry Warrior fans but Curry's excuse here for pretending to take a shit on the Cavs floor after Durant hit game #3 winner sounds worse then Trump's bullshit excuses...."I don't know what I did...."

^Sorry, but I don't buy that "taking a shit" interpretation.  There are some sick minds out there...Fecescists!  cheeky

Next thing you know, Curry will be accused of being a Nazi for high-stepping after his 3-pointer.

Jeff Kurry was clearly taking a faux shit after Devin Burant hit the game winning 4 point shot.

whole lotta Fark-esque angst over on the Cavs message board... here's a melty Warriors thread that's been going since Durant signed way back on July 4th.lol

Curry shit on our court like a fucking 4th grader then I say we kick his teeth in

No one can take away my LeBron Championship Bobblehead and my Zip-loc bag of red and yellow confetti. That championship MEANT something.

Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Good doesn't always prevail. Evil wins certain battles

They didnt beat us, we beat ourselves.

... and all of the sudden it's depressing to be a Cleveland fan again.

I mean GSW fans even readily admit that the fanbase went from kinda Oakland Raiders-like to being techo bros.

So its reported that Draymond Green called KD literally in the parking lot after game 7, and started sucking him off

The NBA is trying to hard to push the Cavs out of the spotlight it is comical.

I know the Cavs were a bought team but still the NBA wants the Cavs and LeBron to hate GS so they can prance all over us with this rich entitled attitude. It is not new in the NBA and this started around the Jordan era but it was always home cooking with refs. Now refs will fuck the team they hate over anywhere because Silver wants that money and fame.

He didn't deny it ...he only said I dont know what I did. I think his answer proves it...

Anyway big talk here is this today in Cleveland....not sure if LeBron stays after this season...he can opt out of season 3

Lol. That's a gold mine, Hall.

Excellent work.

I am sure we knew we had our hands full...I can admit Warriors are beyond good...however I still feel how I do about Curry. Not too crazy about Green either but at least he has balls...

Damn Hall that is a gold mine...lmaorotl

Ok where does LeBron go when he does split? I don't think he is staying in Cleveland...especially after it is now known that he saved this barbershop video from Feb. to be released today. This all changes if the sports miracle of all sports miracles occurs! wink

>>>Ok where does LeBron go when he does split?

San Antonio. (duh)

Fark,

I'll admit that I haven't taken a good look at the footage (saw a photo), so if Curry was grunting, pretending to read a newspaper, or miming the wiping of his ass, I don't think that he was crapping on the Lav's floor.  On the contrary, it looked like he was focused on Durant and celebrating him making the shot (putting them up by only one point with time for Irving or James to potentially win the game).

I still don't see what's so bad about Curry and/or his attitude.  Easy when he's on my team, I suppose.

And, if the shit story helps get the Cavs to motivate themselves, more power to 'em.

Jump to 22:20 - here LeBron explains how his family felt after the Gilbert letter. Now let's see what he does tonight because there is a chance that he has already checked out. I do think Irving may get close to 50 tonight though.

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/06/lebron_james_dr...

I think he did pretend to poop on us! LOL now that's some funny shit! I am dying. I appreciate your take Johnny!

oh well. i mean the LOADED warriors...with the best season ever last year....up 3-1 and MELTED DOWN....maybe the worst sports choke in memory...that had to leave a bad taste.

add 1 more super max contract star and get that ring.

because if you don't.......

Maybe that bad taste is what Curry pooped out....wink Granted it couldn't have been easy after last year for Warriors & fans especially after winning the year before & being up 3-1 with it right there within grasp.

Tonight could be the night we witness what many thought was impossible; the GS Warriors may actually break the Insufferability Index.

Game @ 7 Mountain.

GS unexpectedly moved down a peg to 9.7

The night is still young.

I'm not sure GS has anywhere else to really go, Insufferability wise.

They're arguably the most Insufferable professional sports team in history.

Patriots

Yankees

Jerry Jones?

get real Mark! wink

Say what you will about any of those Insufferable franchises; but they certainly haven't experienced the same level of shameless bandwagonry the Warriors have. Nobody has. Ever.

Real, old school fans can't even get tickets anymore. You know this is true.

^They can, if they're willing to spend the $$$$$

You're right about that

the waiting list is something like 30 35,000 people for seasons tickets

And I admit that I went to zero games this year.   Can't get in for eight bucks anymore but LOL you can't get into winterland for 3 bucks either

Plus the quality level of the couch tour is superhigh now at least for basketball you see a lot more

I hate to stream a concert it's like I don't to be rude so I'm done

BTW: It was good to see you at Roger Waters on Saturday, lltd.  At least we got into the Oracle Arena (and paid playoff beer prices) for something this time of the year.  laugh

>>>Plus the quality level of the couch tour is superhigh now at least for basketball you see a lot more

For sure. I can still get into Nuggets games relatively easy (and could during the 'Melo years, too), but I have no doubt the same thing would happen to any "small market" team post-championship in today's world.

It's just an unfortunate reality.

caught some of the 30 for 30 last night on lakers/celtics.

when basketball was great.

players and teams despised each other. could you imagine bird or magic going to a team that just beat them in the playoffs the next year?

^Thank goodness that OKC got past the Spurs.  Otherwise, KD would've ended up there (that certainly was a concern of mine last year).

How come nobody gave Bogut any crap for joining the Cavs this year?!  devil

lol, bogut.

>>>when basketball was great.

ya mean when pretty much no other teams had a chance for decades?   yeah, sure, great if you're a fan of one of those 2 teams...

stick to the tour de france hall

hey now that's a sport everybody fuckin' hates, but at least those guys don't fall apart

if they have to perform for more than 40 minutes every other day.

>>>players and teams despised each other

in the 50's and 60's maybe, but I never hear you diss 'your' Lakers for not hating the opposition

from the 80's on, or for the superteams they had when guys like Kareem and Shaq

left their respective teams for to be big Hollywood stars.lol

Looking forward to the spreading the hate in '18:

the Los Angeles Times wrote: “[The summer of 2018] has been the Lakers’ target for overhauling their roster through a talented free agent class with ties to Los Angeles. That class will include [Paul] George, who is from Palmdale, LeBron James, who has a home in Brentwood and business relationships in Los Angeles, and Russell Westbrook, a Los Angeles native who played at UCLA.”
