The "Box Of Rain" bust out:

3-20-86

Hampton Coliseum

Never saw this video.  I was in the middle of the floor, somewhere near whoever shot this.  People are whooping it up so much that they drown out Phil.

Let's try to leave the bullshit out of this thread.

Please take your splooge to one of the endless jack-off threads you've started, dude.

The Edie show at msg that time

Also, UBC in Philly!!!!!!!!!

#electric

Herbal Dave thanks 4 posting!!! First time I've seen that since I was there right on the rail. I called Spanishjam from a pay phone at set break

I'm going to go w 12/31/81 Dark Star....First time since 74 they played both versus w out weaving into other songs and weaving back into the second verse I believe.

The show at the Greek in 81 where somebody had a big sign saying "Turn Brent Down". Phil motioned for the guy to pass it up to the stage. He showed it to Brent, pulled out a lighter and set it on fire. Awesome.

Phil addressing rumors that he was leaving the band, 3rd night of Cal Expo 1990

that 81 NYE show was a blast...didn't realize that Phil was wearing a Little Red Rooster shirt at the show until looking at the video:

It's really hard to believe that Jerry wasn't even 40 in 1981.

Phil s San Fran Earthquake..htfd cc

The weight bustout at Nassau. Also dark star and Stephen at Nassau 79.

>>>The Edie show at msg that time

That was a good night Jill. I was in the 16th row on Jerry's side. GDTS really hooked me up on that tour. The show on 9/20 show with Edie were the best seats, but I was lower level every other night in NYC & the first 3 Boston Garden shows too.

Goin Down the Road w/ Edie Brickell

Boston garden sept 91 was it?

Year the celtics , bruins were still playin, but had announced a new garden was gonna be built...

Samson and Delilah....bldng was shakin!

Phil sings for the first time since 1974 (?), joining in on back up vocals in Cold Rain and Snow encore Santa Fe 1983 (rest of show is super smoking too)

The weight bustout at Nassau. Also dark star and Stephen at Nassau 79.<<<<

With all the other Nassau '90 madness, the Weight is an underrated occurrence. Tucked between Cumby and Hey Pocky and then nailed it. Next level.

>>>>>>> Phil sings for the first time since 1974 (?),

Reportedly he sang along on shared mic on US Blues encore @ Nassau Col 5/8 or 9/81 (too lazy to look it up).  I was there but didn't notice it @ the time.

Love it, Chuck!!

12/27/89 2nd set:  The night they musically Blew Off Clarence Clemens.  I was there.  He'd guested with them a few times in 87/88 when they were a top 40 band & not jamming at all - then in mid-late 89 the E St band was on hiatus & rumor had it he'd asked the GD to join as a permanent or semi permanent member.  This was the next show he guested at, 2nd set starts out basically enuff w/Aiko, on which he plays just fine, but the rest of the show is all psychedelic jamming totally leaving him in the musical dust;  by Morning Dew Healy had the good sense to basically turn him so far down he's inaudible.  He never guested w/the GD again after this (did w/JGB a few times I think):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkBSjimAuWg

Also, Jerry sans Glasses & playing Wolf the entire set, details I wasn't aware of @ the time . . .

I've always found the 2nd Creamery Field trip (Oregon Country Fair) to be a fave show, Aug 28, 1982.

Cold mix to start the show, as there was no sound check...   2 stages (Robert Cray headlined the other), and the stage was blank when we got there, slowly the drums were brought out, amps, monitors, etc...   so when Bertha starts, it's a funky mix, but you can hear the instruments get dialed in as they go (there's Brent), good times!

Some highlights;

Plane fly over during Bertha Opener

Ken Kesey introducing the 2nd set

First Day Job (ok, can debate whether that was good or bad, lol)

First West LA Fadeaway (great version too!)

First Duprees Diamond Rag in many years, and as an encore too.

(Excellent versions of all the songs, but special shot outs to Althea and Black Peter)

. . .  then they found a REAL saxomophone player (Branford Marsalis) . . .

17 min mark:  "Yeah let's see you play along with THIS, Schmuck!!!!!!"

& of course Branford Totally could, w/o even rehearsing . . .

I've always found the 2nd Creamery Field trip (Oregon Country Fair site) to be a fave show, Aug 28, 1982.

Yes, indeed, that was a show. Still is. When I want a sunny day show, I play that one. There was magic.

March 3, 1968 The Dead play on a flatbed truck on Haight St. and bid adieu to the H-A and thank the Good Lord this guy recorded some of the show, one of the longest and most blistering versions of Viola Lee Blues.... Obviously I wasn't there but I have enjoyed this recording many times!

I once met a guy who was there on 3/3/68, long funny ironic story I'm too wasted to type out right now, he even had physical evidence of his attendance.

Caught one of the latter 'Box Of Rain'  breakouts in Portland Maine. Also the 1 & Only 'Revolutionary Hamstrung Blues'.

Funny thing was some dude lurking near SBD actually knew the name of Tune. ???  Who the heck was that guy, I wonder.

But my favorite Historical Moment was seeing Phil spark up a "Reefer"  on the stage of Red Rocks,  July 1982.  Again,  the only time I witnessed that.

Remember, that one time, when Jerry went goobeldy goobeldy goobeldy goobeldy phwaaaaaaaarrrrreee, then Phil dropped a bomb?

That was awesome.

Thinking  back,

Jerry Garcia's 40th Birthday Show in Oklahoma City at the Zoo Amphitheatre was a Historical Landmark.

Maybe not the greatest Show ever,  but I am proud to have attended.  Conical Birthday hats were handed out, and the Fans sang "Happy Birthday Song" at end of Setbreak.

The Legend is that the Oklahomans forgot to lock the ticket booth the night before Show, and some DeadHeads thieved a whole batch of Tickets.  So there were extremely-discounted tickets available. Face was only about Ten Bucks wink

^ Oklahoma City --- so hot they delayed the show til dusk, if I remember correctly. There were no seats -- just big wide terraced steps. People behind us brought in a coffin full of beer in ice water. Big mamma would dip a teeshirt in the ice water and fling it around her head while yelling "souiiiiiIEEEE." ruining many tapes. It was so hot the ice cold water actually stung when it hit you.

The show was a disappointment --  the good show was Manor Downs. That was the longest I ever drove for a single show: Maryland to Oklahoma by way of Appalachian State College in North Carolina.

Manor Downs is pronounced Mayner to the locals.

I was at that Hampton Box Breakout!
Also St. Stephen at MSG (and at Hartford).

Years later I enjoyed the return of several songs including New Speedway on a Tuesday night at Oakland Coliseum:

I like Ohr's choice of 12/31/82 & Trebs 10/11/83 St. Stephen show. Fun times.

Carousel Ballroom, March 1968 shows are unbelievable to listen to.

I was at the 3/28/86 Portland - Box of Rain show. I didn't know they played it already, and thought it was a "breakout."

Jerry's comeback show 12/15/86.

the good show was Manor Downs. That was the longest I ever drove for a single show: Maryland to Oklahoma by way of Appalachian State College in North Carolina.))))

100% on the $$$ I was at both. Long hitch hike from Nederland Co. to Austin Texas.

This would be 100% true...They set the microphone up b4 the encore and Phil sang on the chorus . I remember it clear as day.

Bruce Eddieboy Weber loved the 1982 Veneta show, too. If he were still alive he would have posted in this thread.

What a nice guy!

Yes he did.  He wrote about it, like you were there.  Miss his vast musical knowledge and presence.  Nice guy, for sure.

3/28/86 was my first show. The double Playin' reprise was always pretty rare.

The soundcheck jam from Watkins Glen 1973. It was pretty amazing being there to hear it.

The Closing of The Winterland

2/9/73 Maples Pavilion stands out. First Eyes among many other break outs.yes

The return of Cryptical Envelopment

"The "Box Of Rain" bust out"

My 100th show, hadn't seen one since my first.  Great night, still have the empty bottle of Dom Perignon that I brought along for the occasion.

Third set of 12/31/78.

Game, set and match.

Hmmm I was near the sound board for Revolutionary Hamstrung Blues, but had no idea what the song was, so you can rule me out anyway. Reminds me of walking out of Landover after the Ripple and the guy next to me knew the date of the last electric Ripple. WTF did he bring his dead base into the show?

My Oklahoma ticket for Jerry’s 40th got locked in the car, and had to buy another ticket which I think I got for $5. Never heard the ticket box theft story before. The good show on that tour was the next show in Kansas City which was one of my top tens.

Portland, Maine ---Day Tripper....maybe not "historic" , but, more of a "ya had to be there to blv it etc"...the place just went bonkers...and def one of my favorite shows ....something about Maine always brought out the best in the boys...

The St Pattys Day Cap Centre 91 show w Reuben and Cherise bustout (and my friend singing "monkeys in trees"...lol)..along w New Speedway...just another phenomenal show

Greek cryptical was classic

I would have dropped to my knees.

Watchtower break out at The Greek was very memorable.

Backward playing into Day Tripper. Just a great show.

Unbroken chain

>The St Pattys Day Cap Centre 91 show w Reuben and Cherise bustout (and my friend singing "monkeys in trees"...lol)..along w New Speedway...just another phenomenal show

Rubin bustout def one of my favorites!!

My fav Brince show was the 2nd night of Giants with the Eyes opener and DS woven thru the whole show. Now THAT was an amazing Speedway.

81 Nassau US Blues with Kesey on harmonica

^was at that Giants Stadium as well...only show i took my sons Mom to...6/17/91...eyes opener...(little feat opened)...

We had known each other for few years, werent married yet, but, it waz time to take her to a show....maybe i shouldnt have chosen Giants Stadium as her first...but, i left to go to show on 16th...and she was off to see her Mom in Long Island...so on 17th, i drove out from parking lot, up Island, picked her up, and back, we arrived prob 4-5 hours before show..(ya, you know, a lil late for stadium lot fun...lol)...we hung w large crowd of friends from Ct..huge Uconn contingant, chewed a few boomers, and went in...

She watched Feat...we were on field (tarp) prob about 20 yd line jerry side if ya picture stage as end zone...and then the crazy first set

Eyes walking blues, brown eyed, masterpiece, loose lucy!, cassidy, might as well...and set break...wow...

She looked at me and said "musically??? Best show ive ever seen in my life...dont ever expect me to come back"..lol

And even w the dark star truckin, new speedway, ujb, china doll, playin, sugar mag, and the weight...danceathon...she never did....;)

Still a hall of fame show in my book, though

"The St Pattys Day Cap Centre 91 show w Reuben and Cherise bustout"

Great run altogether at the Cap that year.
