The great guitarist Mike Bloomfield

Forums:

This article brings up a lot of great reminders of what he played and who he played with. He was great.

Thanks for the link Judit. I was listening to Super session recently and realized I didn’t know much about Mike so this will be a good read.

Great read, thanks Judit!

A long time favorite of mine.

Only got to see him once ( Butterfield Blues Band reunion at the Gathering of the Tribes at the Greek Theater in the fall of '78), he was fantastic.

Too bad that his bad habits got the best of him.

He's on time.  My dad was always a fan of the Butterfield Blues Band.

Thanks for the articles, looking forward to reading them this afternoon.

mine too, he even saw them in LA in the 60’s.

i was at a jam session on Father’s Day and we did some riffing on ‘east to west’.

seemed appropriate and the guitarist was digging into some of them tasty Bloomfield licks.

My favorite guitar player bar none yes even jerry

I was fortunate to get to see him at the Bottom Line in NYC around ‘73. He absolutely blew me away. Incredible guitar player.

Great story, Lance, thanks.

I must have seen him a couple of times in San Francisco and at Monterey Pop… too bad I can’t remember as much as I’d like to of the musicians/shows I saw during those years.

I had the privilege of jamming with Michael a couple of times in the late 70s when he did solo shows at the Other Cafe.
Not sure how this got on his discography page, but the page lists me as playing guitar, which I did a couple of times. Most of the time I played the upright piano that was against the wall near the stage. Kind of strange to me because there was hardly anyone in the place when we played together. He particularly liked me to play and sing "Loan Me A Dime" and even called me the Loan Me A Dime guy. If there was a recording, I'd sure like to hear it, but I do not recall anyone taping.

Electric Flag's soundtrack to "The Trip" and the Super Sessions albums (studio & live) had a profound effect on a young LiquidMonkey.

Very cool, Mylar!

As 4winds said, Very cool, Mylar!

And I'm not familiar with this photo, Burnz. Thanks.

Bloomfield was my favorite guitar player until I heard Jerry in 1969. When/where was that pic of them together taken?
