Slacker could have already had a college degree by now instead of the thousands of hours he spends here. There are virtually free college programs for low income people like yourself. #stopwhining

Homeowners VS renters round 127.

Hi Fog, Hi JR--good to see you guys.

It's nice we can all be here to support Slacker.

Happy Solstice Friday, everyone.

Hi Gravy, thanks man.

Night classes would be a good option.

Night classes for what?

>>>>>when there are so many better reasons

You don't have any reasons.

What’s up kids? Just saying “hi.”

Sad Slack  crying

Does anyone have any REAL reasons to actually dislike someone on a dbmb?

Night classes for what?>>>

Are you asking for serious recommendations?

Am I supposed to take recommendations from you seriously if I don't know you or your background?

What do you do for a living?

Unless one is lucky, earning potential without an undergraduate degree is pitiful. The degree, however, can create enough student loans to negate the increased earning. Online degrees, from reputable schools, are becoming way more affordable. And then you just keep deferring the loans, and you’re all set.

Honestly, the best bet for financial independence is to become an electrician or plumber. You get paid while you’re a journeyman, many of the required classes are cheap at the community college, and when you’re a master you pull in over $100 p/h. There’s a shortage of both of these, so you’re guaranteed work.

>the best bet for financial independence is to become an electrician or plumber<

Guy that built my house said that both are like a license to print money

Fucking plumbers around here are so plush that they don’t even return calls, even to say they have no time. It defies every rule of customer service.

The dude a few doors down is a plumber. He just bought his wife a Maseratti.

Stop talking out of your arse.

Seriously, what do you know about the trades and/or unions?

(((prep school hippie)))

JoeThePlumber-biopic112.jpg

Are there any plumbers or electricians here?

Oregon has a shortage of people in the trades and it's hard to get things built in a timely fashion where I live because Portland is pulling people up there with higher wages. Serious problem.

The people working in the trades here are making good money, there's just more in Portland.

Affordable housing is also a big issue in Oregon. Man, we certainly went wrong somewhere along the way.

Not looking for a pissing match, 4 Winds. I do have some knowledge of workforce needs, WIOA, the training system, etc. VT is a non-union state, and most in the trades here are unaffiliated.

I also know quite a few plumbers and electricians, and they are all looking for good, trained help, and pay well above average.

Don't we all know something about it, 4winds? We have friends working, read the newspaper, want jobs done, etc.

My cousin is an electrician, Slack, he makes six figures, put two kids through college, and his wife doesn't work.

A friend of mine who finally cleaned up after years of substance abuse is now an electrician and is doing great. belongs to a union and is finally making a real life for himself.

>>Don't we all know something about it, 4winds?

Sure.

>>Not looking for a pissing match, 4 Winds.

Same here.

So simple, in a nice little package, just put a bow on top.  Then why aren't more people doing it?

>>> Then why aren't more people doing it?

lazy and/or complacent?

People have been saying go into the trades for years now.

That’s the $1,000 question, 4 Winds. I can only speak for what’s going on in VT, but the trades are hurting. I also know that many here in the trades as being recruited to go to other states, where there’s also a need.

There’s no frilly bow on it. The trades are looking for people and they pay well. Would you refute that, or are you trolling me because I went to a prep school?

>>>>and his wife doesn't work.

My wife works. She went to college. Still says it's hard earning enough money to get by these days.

Negative.

It might have something to do with people (parents, counselors) telling young people they need to go to college to get a job that pays. Lots of pressure to stay out of the trades and go to college. Ridiculous.

No need to answer, 4 Winds, but ask yourself why then you chose to personally attack me, especially when you have no idea what I do, what I know, etc. You don’t disagree with me, you were just being a big old meanie.

Oh, and at least around here welders are in very high demand, and they also make good $. It’s less than the other trades, but it’s also less at a training hierarchy.

No Brian, your were blowing smoke in the post.  "Honestly, the best bet for financial independence is to become an electrician or plumber."

It's not how much you make it's how much you keep.  That is the best bet for financial independence.

Oh veh, did you not read where I said college can be a losing proposition, yet the trades often have very cheap training classes and you get paid well as a journeyman?

Dude, don't you remember all of those what do you do for a living threads, we have been posting on the same board for 20 plus and you don't know me?

What do you do for a living? >>>>

Its real estate related.

Speaking of real estate, what are the requirements for a real estate license out in CA?

Col Peppers made good money in the sheet metal trade.  Never forget.

Financial independence doesn't depend on whether or not you went to college or learned a trade.

Yawn...you’re right, 4 Winds. I used the wrong term. The trades, however, can be a decent path to independence, and can afford a good lifestyle along the way.  Better?

You knew what I was getting at,  but again, you went on the attack over nothing. Yawn...

Don't get it twisted.  Attack?  Hardly. I used the word arse.

I'll try not to hurt your feelings next time.

What was the “prep school hippie” thing? Words of affection?

A joke.  You did go to prep school, right?

ha ha?

Not that i want to get involved in this love fest however i don't think 'prep school hippie' was meant to initially offend. Thats just how she rolls.  Hope that helps.

Fair enough. Maybe she doesn’t get context and timing. Not everyone is Hennie Youngman.

and you're no expert on women and timing for that matter

I was just fucking with my man with the - so many better reasons, comment.

Trying to inject a bit of humor on a friday. No offense was intended.

Strange this thread may lead to a positive life altering metamorphosis for our brother.

The trades - good move. But who knows, see what local education centers are offering and take a shot at something that sounds hard you think you may not have a chance with like computer programming. You may discover you're a natural brainiac.

Does anyone know Gravytrain? What does he do?

Does he work with plf9905?

I don't want to be a two faced limo liberal NIMBY.

I just want more housing for the working class in cities they are asked to work in.

>>anyone know Gravytrain? What does he do?

Easy with the stalky thread and cop questions, k?

Keep it civil, respectful, and kind.

Do you mine Bitcoin like 73guy?

Come on,  ‘douche train’, you need to stop trolling Slacker.

Well, when you put it that way....lol

Elevator mechanic is the best of the trade jobs.  But it's complete nepotism at least around here.   Stationary engineer is a sweet job as well.  That's what I do.  Most of you don't even know what that is.  Make a little less than the other trades. Still over 100k after a little OT.  But don't work nearly as hard.   Fuck plumbing unless you like that kind of thing.  Hard smelly work.

I'm starting to think Gravy is a plumber.

>>>just want more housing for the working class in cities they are asked to work in<<<

Why?

Because it's his schtick?

He's a one trick pony, I mean sea lion

>>>>>Why?

Culture.

My buddy lives in Philadelphia, his wife is a teacher and he is not bringing in a ton of money.  they have two kids and have managed to buy two houses in the city.

There are places where you can find what you want, but not in the bay area.

We're not looking to move to the Bay Area. We live in the Bay Area.

^i know, Slack, but what you want is not available where you live. And i don't believe that is going to change. However, what you're looking for does exist elsewhere.

Why wouldn't things change?

Jfc put your helmet back on

>Why won't things change?

Supply won't catch up to demand.

What will happen to the people in the Bay Area?

Where will they go and where will the workers come from?

Not sure, Slack. I imagine some will leave. I sure as hell wouldn't stay in a place where housing cost that  much

It has a Democrat Governor, two Democrat senators and a majority of Democrats make up the population.

How can things not turn around when educated liberal progressive Democrats put their Stanford degrees to use.

They'll figure it out. The Grateful Dead and LSD will make things better.

The workers will come from mexico, slack. Just like they always have. Don't worry, they'll bring weed

Are they building housing for those Mexicans?

Not a whole house, just one wall

Were you in the same class as Jim Rome?

Damn dude, start a call out thread with calling someone a douche and he still tries to help your ass.

Have you tried Grateful Dead and LSD?

Lassen is right about you.

Nice work in here TOD. I agree with you.

>> lol

I am gonna assume Lassen said something to the effect that Tchod is a robot clown programmed by the DNC or something to this effect and if that’s the case then I would not only agree but I would also lol

This is what I mean when I say that contributors like Grubby and Tchod are very good for this community, even at its twilight.

Everybody needs a village idiot to laugh at every now and then, and in these waning days of the fauxzone, it’s very important to acknowledge how such posters have contributed over the years. Thank you for your service.

Hateix with the Daily Stormer dbmb update...<pats head>....

Run along now.

is moving a possibility slacker? cost of living where you are is crazy. i live in a cabin included in my salary during the growing season, but it doesnt even make financial sense for me to rent a place in the bay area for 3-4 months in the off season after 8-9 months making an ok salary and not paying rent...if i come to stay in the bay over the winter, im living with my mom. no joke.

Here ya go slackattack >

fyi I suspect those with better grammar likely have a better income

than he does, not than him does

him earns?

You really use perfect grammar here?

LLTD is judgemental.

Or for the sake of expediency, 'mental.

Carry on.

>>>thanks Cuckcakes!

someone help me out here. by calling someone a “cuckcake” are you saying they enjoy watching their partner have sex with someone other than themselves? It seems like a weirdly specific thing to call someone.

“ Judgmentally,”  I’m a “victim” ( apparently one of my new favorite behaviors is being the victim) of my parents ... grammar was very important to them and it’s ingrained behavior

Both being the grammar police,  as well as being judge mental

and I always notice when my kids take liberties with proper english

Not always expedient but WTF     And I do have many posts with spelling errors and grammatical  defects

GTTS

You don't want your case in front of Judge Mental.

Back on subject . . . I thought Slacker worked for tips.

Hubba hubba.
