Grateful that I live in a time that has Nils Lofgren in it

Forums:

As good as he is on guitar, I often think that Nils doesn't get nearly the amount of praise that he deserves. A full time member of Crazy Horse AND The E Street Band as well as a damn fine solo artist with a compelling singing voice. Hell, he is even a pretty good gymnast!

Been listening to his new solo album recently and it is might fine.

Probably one of the first rock and rollers I ever saw. In the early 70s he wa in a "local" band called Grin and they played at my high school "cafe-torium."

I was in junior high - 7th or 8th grade -- and we snuck in. We were fans.

They played a double bill with Orange Wedge. I still remember the posters they tacked on the telephone poles.

In a world where all things are connected --- I never knew Nils had a connection to Pete Sears through a woman, Kathi McDonald, who sang on the Grin album:

In 1973, she recorded her debut solo album, Insane Asylum, for Capitol Records. The album was co-produced by David Briggs and Pete Sears. Sears was also her musical arranger and played keyboards and bass, as well as writing several of the album's songs with McDonald. The album featured musicians such as Nils Lofgren, John Cipollina and Neal Schon on guitar, Aynsley Dunbar on drums, Boots Hughston on horns. McDonald sang a cover of Willie Dixon's "Insane Asylum" with Sly Stone.[10] The album was released in 1974 and reached #156 on the Billboard 200

He was on the bill at my first rock concert - StarCastle, Nils Lofgren & Boston at the Cow Palace in 1977.

I was overwhelmed by the greatness of everything I saw that night, so Nils immediately became a "name" for me right from my rock beginnings.

Plus, he's an early & late era member of Crazy Horse, which automatically makes him a superstar.

Night After Night got a lot of play in my bedroom when I was a senior in high school, and I especially liked his Ode to the Glimmer Twin: Keith Don't Go.
