They did screen this one in 2019, but I missed it. Always liked how this show sounds. 14 minute Eyes to open, all the Dark Star teases, what's not to like? Should be fun to watch.
A little odd they aren't playing something new. There surely are more complete shows in the vault. It won't be the first repeat as they have already shown The Grateful Dead Movie twice.
I was listening to Deadcast and think David Lemieux said they had pro vids of the So Far "rehearsals" (shot in 85, released in 87?) where they pretended they were in a show. And that they played well. And there were lots of outtakes that were not in the final cut. I don't think I've ever seen that.

Love this show and missed the last theater showing. Odd that it's a 3pm showing today but that helped as there were conflicts. Monday was a nonstarter. Pulled tix late last night and will sit for some afternoon jams.
It was fun, just in from South Jersey showing. Loved all the close ups and seeing them enjoy each other with big smiles. I go every year they have it...grateful for technology.
I found the Grateful Dead 'Meet Up At The Movies' a pretty intense and compelling experience tonight. Aside from seeing a 'Real Dead Show' for the first time in a while, albeit on a Big Screen, it brought back some very vivid memories of this Giants Stadium show that I attended on 6/17/91. However, moreso it was on a different level with the Pro Shot video in play. That was not my concert experience back in the day. Watching the screens, that is. 35 years ago, I was more likely free form dancing in my seat or elsewhere. So to see all the nuances was pretty intense. The musicians' facial expressions, eyerolls, laughter, grimaces, and, as my friend said, Bruce's "Deer in the Headlights" expression...
To be honest, I always prefer more audience shots in a concert film experience...like D.A. Pennebaker used to do...
In any case, by far some of the the most entertaining moments were witnessing Mickey's evidently coke-fueled attack of 'The Beam' during 'Space'! That was both shamanic & inspiring!
Bottom line is that the Grateful Dead in 1991 came to Giants Stadium, determined to Deliver! Don't get in the way of this freight train! The song seques were downright mysterious and the band teasing 'Dark Star' throughout the evening, even during 1st set Tune ups, etc. was unprecendented and had devotees freaking out loud at the roller-coaster quality of the Show!
Since I'm expounding here, allow me to tell my favorite anecdote about attending 6/17/91 @ Giants Stadium...
Little Feat opened the show that day. I love Feat, but since I was living in California at that time, I was reuniting with all my NJ homies in the lot (Was it section C24???)
Anyway, when I finally got into the Stadium, Feat had already left the stage. Within seconds of my entry, The Dead launched into 'Eyes Of The World', normally a 2nd set fixture. Never opened a show with it in their prior history, as far as I knew.
So, I immediately assumed that I missed the Dead's entire 1st Set! I'm sure the inebrients did not aid my confusion!
The Dark Star teases started (unbelievably to us) in the 1st set and continued for an entire 1991 Summer Tour across the entire USA for maybe 15 shows, finally ending the Deadhead suspense as to when the 2nd verse would finally be sung!
We saw the movie last night also. I enjoyed myself. 10 thoughts:
1. The theater sound mix was very impressive. One of the best sounding concert movies I remember attending.
2. The movie needed more Phil. Audio and video.
3. Garcia didn't appear to be too happy with Weir initially, judging by his expressions in Weir's direction. You could seemingly watch Jerry mouth, "What the fuck?' But he (Jerry) shifted mood after a short while.
4. Jerry was all smiles when interacting with Bruce. I believe the show took place about half-way thru Bruce's tenure with the band. When Bruce was reflectively happy with Jerry's contribution and enthusiasm, the music really benefited. This was a time (91) when the Dead were publically admitting they were questioning what they were doing, as the whole enterprise was becoming mutually unsatisfying on many levels, including musically.
5. Bobby's facial expressions were extra-animated in the first set -- much more so than just rock-starring out -- he was looking unusually (and comically) over-expressive. Maybe the drugs were kicking in. It looked odd, even for Weir.
6. Poor Vince was stuck over in the corner behind Bruce, looking somewhat ignored. Throughout the show he was apparently tasked with playing rhythm (adding "color" chords using full hands raising and lowering over the keyboard like a kid pretending to play piano, not individual fingers plinking individual notes, if that makes sense), which did allow Weir to expressively wander a bit more more than his usual choppy clanging. In contrast, Bruce was playing interweaving leads throughout, mostly with Jerry.
7. Jerry was wearing a rare blue shirt -- it looked textured even -- not even a regular tee. Fancy. However, he was looking a little disheveled and greasy...not the well-coiffed 89 Jerry. (This might have been the time when he was getting gradually more bored of Manasha and parenting, pre Brigid/Barbara Meier relationship). By the end of the show his neck disappeared and chin was resting on his bloated chest. I've seen him looking worse, but his posture looked positively painful.
8, When Jerry sang he constantly bumped his nose right up against the microphone. Denting his nose. I never noticed that before.
9. Mickey watched Billy more than the reverse. Billy seemed bored (or much less animated) compared to Mickey. In comparison, Mickey seemed possessed at times, even "dancing" when he was standing up manipulating the beam. The drum solo was just average as it didn't showcase massive synergy between the two.
That was a good time at the movies last night. They left out most of the graphic special effects, the video was of good quality, and the sound dialed in. It was weird they cut the encore.
They look so different than their latter years, except Jerry, who is in his latter years. Phil is still pretty big. I guess he didn't really start slimming down until after his transplant.. He does have his shirt tucked in, and looks like he's got his shit together. Weir also has his purple Izod tucked into his cut-offs and is wearing a pair of loafers. No beard, his hair styled, still the Rock Star.
Vince and Mickey both seem high. I was wondering about Jerry too. I remember hearing about some dentist got him hooked on opioids again around this time. He seems on top of his game playing and singing. He's engaged with the others, especially Phil. He does look. older than his 46 years here. Just a few more years left for Mr. Garcia, On this night, in his big blue t-shirt, he was still blazing on.
