Forums:

A highly celebrated night, wrapping up a fascinating and dynamic six-spot at the Garden. Always worth an annual re-listen.

Not a bad rehearsal for the best post Brent -  Europe 90

I was surprised when Dick choose 9/16/90 over this night for DP9.  He thought the 20th was overrated, we disagreed on this.

9-16-90 is better.. I was at both. I’m pretty sure Dick thought so too as 9-16-90 is dicks picks 9 and 9-20 is on the road trips series.

The morning dew pushes 9-16-90 ahead.. that’s one of the all time best morning dew.. 9-16 was also listed as one of the top ten shows of all time

I was at 9/19 & 9/20. At the time and ever since I have preferred 9/19.

But both were amazing nights for a little west coaster like me.

i love how, on 9-20, after throwin' the band kind of pauses for a moment, looking at each other deciding what to do next and Phil plays the touch bass line and they all just go right into it.

that is an exceptionally good show. even the women are smarter is raging. Jerry's just killing it.

Great show.

Trying to remember it. .  Its hard.  Oh yes......Flew in to JFK.  It was a 24 hour flight door to door. I was a newly wed married in June. Arrived to the Garden a half hour before show time.  Wife never been to a show. It was madness as there were no tickets to be had. I needed a pair. I was offered a single. I turned it down. More madness. Wife was bugging out. I was sweating. Par for the course.

I was discretely offered a pair.  Money about to change  hands and another fan steps in between the transaction. Seller debates the new offer. I grab tickets put money in his hand and run to the door never looking back.  Walked in to show and the lights went out. Wifes favorite tune, "you know its gonna get stranger" and mine comes on. Crazy crazy night ensued.

Great show.

So Years later.  Am In Amsterdam Holland.   A head , Great Fan and taper introduces me to his buddy Pete.  He says we never met but I remember you and your wife.  Outside the Garden.....you were looking for tickets......Your the crazy Fucker who turned down a single ticket  because you needed a pair.

Great show.  did i mention My Wife's first?

Fuckin Great show.

that is an exceptionally good show. even the women are smarter is raging. Jerry's just killing it.........Fuck yeah.  That was my wifes 2nd favorite tune.

Fuckin Great show.

Echo that......

Thanks for that, kk. Nicely done

Such an awesome run and such an awesome second set-had great seats and was hoping for a second Dark Star.

Hornsby starting his run with the boys and, since I am Jewish, I got the day off for Yom Kippur and hung at the South Street Seaport pre-show.

Maybe the last great run of the GD not to mention the 9/18 Jerry jam and 9/16 Phil jam!

Sick. Sick. Sick. The jams that weave in and out of Dark Star are just well....agree that 9/19 and 9/20 are The best post Brent shows. Thanks for the reminder.

The only bummer is that I was 15 at the time :(

I was in the third row center dancing and groovin with some sweet sister.  Took a piss break between sets, to realize that my ticket stub was in my flannel shirt at the seat.

No luck at all trying to talk my way back to the seat past the ushers. "Yeah .... right. Your stub in in the 3rd row"

Saw the 2nd set from nosebleed seats

9/16 Phil jam!>>>Bass, Grand Piano & Keyboards, one of my favorite moments after Brent passed.

I was surprised when Dick choose 9/16/90>>>

Garcia's voice was a little ragged, but he did sing 4 of the last 5 songs if you include He's Gone.

Not many shows post Drums/Space format in '78 feature a Garcia/Hunter ballad and Dew, 3rd night in Eugene in '84, not sure of any others.

The whole run was full of surprises, very rare Help>Slip>Franklin's as a 1st set close,  & Playin'>Ship of Fools to open set 2 on the 19th.

Only time I saw US Blues in the first set and Lovelight as an encore on the 20th.

6 show run, did not play Brokedown Palace.

The Jack Straw from the night before is one of my favorites. Not the prettiest but Jerry absolutely rips the solo
