I have found that the BMW in dash GPS, made by Samsung, beats all the other systems hands down. It occasionally gets confused when hitting an area of multiple construction projects, Pulaski Skyway, but I am amazed at it's real time updating. Often I can see traffic backups 2 minutes after they happen and get rerouted immediately. I don't know how they do it better than everyone else but it's like magic.
I use Waze for commuting while driving. I find the crowd-sourcing to be a big advantage as far as police alerts, road hazards and things like that, I also suspect that that due to the crowd sourcing that incidents where roads are blocked pop up faster. In spite of Waze being owned by google I’ve heard that the Waze maps may be more accurate and Waze is more apt to quickly re-route you off the beaten path,
i never use Waze for walking around though.
Google maps has much more info about Locations you are going to, how to get from point A to point B via public transport and still like that.
So if I’m driving, normally Waze. Everything else, I use Google maps.
I don't like Waze. Does not tell you the road or street to turn into, just to turn right or left. Confusing if it is more than a two street intersection. Google, on the other hand, tells you which lane to get in and what to turn onto.
I borrowed an older Garvin GPS for an upcoming road trip . It has a suction cup that you stick on the wind screen and the other end is a power plug in to the source.
I plugged it in and entered the destination and the unit suggested the worst route possible from pryer experiences.
I don't trust it. Yet I feel confident enough in the unit to know where I am at a glance but not enough for where I will be going.

I like google maps but I also run waze in the background so it yells at me when police are around.
Google maps has saved me many times by redirecting me when there are accidents and traffic. Love that.
