I wish I could. My parents recently moved into a retirement community in Northern Virginia. They are trying to get the old family home ready to put on the market and need mine and my siblings help. She literally asked me if I could come back there to help them two weeks ago, just as this whole COVID-19 situation was snowballing. The retirement home is (wisely) not allowing any visitors right now. Getting flights there is iffy, and may only be possible if their health situation is dire, which it technically isn't. They both don't have the virus, but they are each frail, and my closest two siblings are in New York, with the other two and myself out on the West Coast. It's just one more hoop to jump through in this crazy dance we're all in.
The line originally came to me thinking of people being told to stay home. I wondered when I posted... about memories, sad possibilities, wistfulness... love to all of you.
I had a long time homeless friend move in w/ me 3 weeks ago, provide a little safe space while the normal hangouts are closed, and typical food venues aren't available.
dont know about humbolt but here in mendo its not terrible - people are taking it seriously and keeping distance but not seeing any end of the world type stuff of people wigging out in town or anything. most people not wearing masks or gloves, but there are a few.
supermarkets are not to bad, TP and paper towels are hard to come by but generally available if you go shopping early, rice and beans still picked over, some shelves of non perishables looking a little light but most everything seems to be in stock. lysol/clorox wipes and hand sanitizer are still nowhere to be found, im assuming they are not even getting regular shipments as of last time i went to town, maybe 4 or 5 days ago. some of the sausages and lunchmeats are looking a bit picked over but stocks of milk, eggs, all veggies/fruit and all meats seemed normal. eggs somewhat picked over but always in stock - although they havent had my preferred brand of pasture raised in awhile and often just have a shitload of 1 or 2 brands/sizes instead of 10ish different brands/sizes.
rural is the place to be atm - seems like we generally have more "essential" jobs or jobs that can be preformed alone outdoors per capita than urban areas.
