George Floyd

Forums:

RIP

I broke down in tears when I saw that video yesterday.

I hope that officer, and the ones that stood by and let it happen, will be haunted by their actions for the rest of their lives.

I hope the voice of George Floyd pleading for mercy, and crying for his Mama as he was dying, echoes through their minds each and every night as they try to sleep, and live with their disgraceful actions.

Early yesterday, the officers were placed on administrative leave with pay, by the end of the day they were all fired.

Now the case has been turned over to the FBI...

Killed by the ones paid to protect us

Once again, the only reason we got the whole story is because someone was there filming.  If it wasn't for that, I am sure the "official" version of events would be much different.

Minneapolis citizens will spend millions defending this, all while quietly thanking the heavens that this didn’t happen to them. Two or three more black men might be killed in the street while this process draws out. On occasion, large crowds will assemble outside the courthouse, and the police will brutalize them too. The murderers lawyers will fight foaming at the mouth for something as simple as keeping even one black man from serving on the jury. Though they don’t have to disclose the “real reason”; they might fault that particular black juror prospect for having been abused as a child, or for not having held a steady job as reasons to prevent him from being one of the twelve to deliver a verdict. They will do this over and over again. Then at trial, in front of an all-white jury they will lay all of the blame for this murder right at George Floyd’s feet. They will try to blame his family for not keeping “control” of him, or for not having gotten him the “help” that he needed for his “addictions”, or by trying to establish patterns of violence in his behavior. The murdering officers will be acquitted, exonerated, and celebrated. The people will riot some more. More police brutality, more incarceration. More lawsuits. The acquitted officers then they will sue the city of Minneapolis where they will cite wrongful termination, personal, financial, and reputational damages, poor training standards, incompetent leadership, etc, etc. But because enough time has elapsed this trial will have to happen in federal court, where the stakes are much higher and the glorification of policing, as an institution; is enshrined. They will win financial judgments against the city in a painful, arduous trial, having wasted many more millions from the citizens in the process. Millions that could have gone toward helping homeless people get on their feet, or building playgrounds, or giving teachers higher salaries, or even training cops in uses of non-lethal force. The vindicated cops will all get their jobs back, or perhaps rehired at a state agency or maybe over in St Paul. They will become police union officers, chiefs, and detectives, as they will be promoted up through their respective departments forever known as the cops who are never, ever to be fucked with. When do the Vikings play next?

May you forever rest in heavenly peace George Floyd.

The only good cop is a good cop.  The rest get none of my respect.

Murder that’s my opinion. I think we do need to look at how racial tensions are being stoked in an election year all over again.. it was a big part of Putin’s disrupt America campaign.. seems like that plan has been put in overdrive with Coronavirus

gonna be a long hot summer folks

buckle up...

That Was MURDER !

Riots in Minneapolis tonight.  I don't blame them.

Even after seeing many videos of police brutality in recent years, this one was particularly chilling with the cop slowly and calmly strangling the man to death in front of horrified bystanders pleading for his life.

Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer identified as the one who kept his knee on George Floyd's neck until he died.

Why hasn't he been arrested and charged with murder?

"A history of racist policing, thanks to Klobuchar

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, who Joe Biden recently asked to undergo vetting to be his running mate for November, issued a very tepid statement about the incident, describing the police killing of an unarmed black man over an alleged forged check as merely an “officer involved shooting,” – a copaganda word often used by police as a euphemism for “murder.”

Klobuchar also called for a “complete and thorough outside investigation into what occurred, and those involved in this incident must be held accountable.” However, this is unlikely to occur, in no small part because of Klobuchar herself and the precedent she set while serving as the state’s chief prosecutor between 1999 and 2007. In that time, she declined to bring charges against more than two dozen officers who had killed citizens while on duty – including against Chauvin himself, who shot and killed Wayne Reyes in 2006 and would later go on to shoot more civilians while in uniform."

not sure how this can change.

seems it doesn't.

Prosecuting police who break the laws they are tasked with enforcing would be a good start.

Ridiculous.  Why didn't he just cuff him?

Rogue police officers and police brutality are more than just an issue of racial discrimination.  Remember that Deadhead in New Jersey who got killed at the Meadowlands in the 80s?   Dirty cops need to me held accountable, or this won't stop.

His name was Adam Katz

I saw The Adam Katz incident.

Security and The Police killed him.

I called to report what I saw 3 times.

Told the full account of what I saw 3 times

Nobody ever got back to me.

RIP Adamheart

What? I don’t think I’ve heard your story here rrg, have you shared it here before?

This video was sent to me today from my High School conspiracy friend.

I don't agree with it and it sheds a new light to people who are too afraid to see reality and blame everything on conspiracies.

George Floyds death is fake.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOihzXGNlFU&feature=youtu.be

If it's fake or not - Minnesota is a powder keg. It is awful how racist this country still is - so much that it cannot even admit it. Beyond crazy.

Yep, Minneapolis-St. Paul has a large Somali population.

There is no other credible explanation for the majority of white evangelical Christians' apparently undying support for a president who has repeatedly shown them precisely who he is and has long been, with his indecency, bigotry, crudeness, serial untruthfulness and immorality. And yet, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey, a majority of white evangelical Christians believe that President Donald Trump has helped their interests. He fares even better on the issue of whether he fights for what they "believe in" -- 53% answered "very well"; 28% "fairly well."

Every time I seen this video of the cops Killing this man for passing a forged $20, a non-violent offense, then being killed while handcuffed books my blood. 28 years ago I was on the inside of a buddy's house when the swat team kicked in the door..

He got set up by a CI he sold weed to. He was burning sage and blowing it around with an eagle feather. My mom had passed 3 days prior and he was helping me  out. Next thing I know is I am face first on the floor with a gun to my head, fucking pricks. They told me to get up off the floor with no help. I about put my shoulder out of joint pushing myself off the floor.

That cop killed a man for no reason. This reminds me of the 1968 photo of the execution of the Viet cong soldier during the Tet offensive

That is not helping the situation.

The revolution is live on tv. It's like the 60's man.
update:  There are also protests In Louisville.

More trouble coming every day.

Police murdered a black woman in Louisville not long ago. There's video on Twitter of a person being shot at the Louisville protests. Also heard protestors are trying to storm the State Capitol building in Ohio.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I just wish the punks wouldn't loot. It takes away from the righteous outrage and gives the Trump-loving, knuckle-dragging conservatives footing for their desperate deflective defense against the real crimes and the real issues.

Fucking looters suck.

Reports of buildings on fire in Columbus and protestors have broken into the Capitol building. Also some crazy shit going down in Denver. Saw a dude get ran over by an SUV.

And here we go!

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

....These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!

11:53 PM · May 28, 2020·Twitter for iPhone

Minneapolis police precinct where the killer cop was stationed has been overrun and burned.  Real life "Assault on Precinct 13" shit went down.

That's the type of burning and looting that makes sense because it is directed straight at the problem.  Fuck the police.

Reports of 7 people being shot in Louisville. Don't know if it's the police doing the shooting or what. We have some crazy redneck militia types here too so who knows.

I wish I could think of one good thing to say about Trump, but I can't. To call him a turkey dick is a slur to turkeys. I'm not going to spend time thinking of something else to call him, it hurts my heart.

Trump's loony followers are going to see that tweet as a "call to arms" and an invitation to take justice into their own hands. This is going to get really, really ugly.

>>> This is going to get really, really ugly. <<<

Scary. So scary ugly.

That late-night tweet will be the final nail in his reelection coffin.

Who is trump thanking in the end of that twitter?

^His wing ding followers.

His advisers are going to shit themselves when they wake up to this tomorrow lol.

>>>That's the type of burning and looting that makes sense because it is directed straight at the problem.  Fuck the police.

Unfortunately there is collateral damage that are innocent people's livelihoods that are being destroyed. Ugly and sad.

The mayor of Minneapolis is taking questions on live TV at 1:35 in the morning. He's frazzled, but hanging in there.

While Trump is foaming at the mouth, babbling about shooting people.

I think this young guy is doing an impossible job correctly tonight, pulling the police back and letting the people vent their anger and the losers loot and mess up things of brick & mortar for one night instead of filling body bags to satisfy Trump & his knuckle-draggers.

Looters suck, but the vast majority of the people on the streets are standing around with their phones in the air, while Trump wants the National Guard to start mowing them down.

Yeah Donnie, that'll work for sure.

derp

 >>>>just wish the punks wouldn't loot. It takes away from the righteous outrage and gives the Trump-loving, knuckle-dragging conservatives footing for their desperate deflective defense against the real crimes and the real issues. Fucking looters suck.

I typically agree but this time I’m seeing it a little differently.

Ideally, the function of the police dept is to protect and serve the populace, who pays their salary, by enforcing the laws democracy has deemed necessary.

when the police not only fail to do so, but end up brutalizing members of that Society in a completely unprovoked fashion and the justice system/establishment fails to hold them accountable, the natural and deserved response is lawlessness.

Faced with such a systemic breakdown, one could even reason that the populace almost has a responsibility to exhibit the fact that peace is not brought about by the force and intimidation of a militarized enforcement agency but because it is the will of the masses.

If those law enforcement agencies violate the sacred trust and responsibility society has bestowed upon them, violent public backlash should b the expected result, especially in terms of destroying the precinct.

it’s definitely more misplaced in terms of the damage sustained by private businesses, but given the scenario it’s arguably almost as much the fault of the system’s failings that caused the initial outrage as the actual looters themselves.

i hope as few people r hurt as possible.

RIP George Floyd

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fumaCsQ9wKw

I think that sounds great on an academic level E, but there's "public backlash" and then there's just losers taking advantage of a situation, which in real time deflects & detracts from the real issue.

The people who most need to see & admit the real issue - police brutality in particular, systemic racism in general - don't want to see it or admit it, and if punks are taking TVs out of Target just because they can that gives those people a reason to keep looking away from the real issue.

There's righteous protest, and there's selfish stupidity.

One can lead to change, the other just feeds on itself.

Looting and riots are a part of these killings. They always have been. The media what's your to believe that they are all professional arsons though, it seems. This fires were set by the Minnesota mafia. Companies will make out on the insurance money. Another white cop murders a black man and the media ultimately got what it wanted with the looting. On top of that during the peaceful protest police officers shot tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd which ultimately created the riot.

The message is clear: Only whites can peacefully protest without violence from police. Also, if you are black then you're life is disposable.

But remember these state governments cares if you get somebody else sick, right? Although within seconds they'll be firing tear gas and rubber bullets at you while you try to protest the unjust killing of a black man.

< Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Yep, hence the burning + looting

< I just wish the punks wouldn't loot. It takes away from the righteous outrage

Fucking looters suck.

Sorry man, its part of the program, designed to outrage.

Surprised you don't know that.  The days just get better and better.

the protesters have every right to loot and burn imo.

nothing has changed.

“When the looting starts, the shooting starts,” is a threat coined by Miami Police Chief Walter Headley, who promised violent reprisals on black protesters in 1967. He also said: “We don’t mind being accused of police brutality. They haven’t seen anything yet.”

>>>>>the protesters have every right to loot and burn imo

Would your opinion change if it was your pizza shop that was burned?.

^wow.

and nope.

grow the fuck up, surf -- you've had like 100 years to do so.

Pizza joints never get torched. They get taken over and supply the brothers and sisters with nourishment for the struggle.

Spike had that shit wrong.

So when I become a grown-up I will understand that protestors have the right to destroy my business?

Guess I'll have to stay un-grown up.

no.

but maybe you'll stop asking dumb ass questions?

Fuck yeah !

Yet in the cases of thommy, bry, pyro and a few select others I'd be helping out the cops. Weird conundrum this thing called life.

^ so you'd help the cops kill the above mentioned and/or grapple with that idea because of some

people you disagree with on a dbmb?

dude

Really dude ?  The tone has been pretty somber of late, but are things so bad nobody recognizes a joke anymore ?

Back to somber it is.

The racist hatred in amerika has always existed, but the dark lord trump has encouraged it and made it acceptable. Giving pricks like that cop carte blanche to carry out their sadism. Trickle down hate under this fuck.

Now, there's a woman on my block
She just sit there as the night grows still
She say who gonna take away his license to kill ?

"Trouble Coming Every Day"

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VBJnnzxhGbw

Well I'm about to get sick
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friends
Is anybody's guess

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Wednesday I watched the riot...
I seen the cops out on the street
Watched 'em throwin' rocks and stuff
And chokin' in the heat
Listened to reports
About the whisky passin' 'round
Seen the smoke & fire
And the market burnin' down
Watched while everybody
On his street would take a turn
To stomp and smash and bash and crash
And slash and bust and burn

And I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Well you can cool it,
You can heat it...
'Cause, baby, I don't need it...
Take your TV tube and eat it
'N all that phony stuff on sports
'N all the unconfirmed reports
You know I watched that rotten box
Until my head began to hurt
From checkin' out the way
The newsmen say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so-and-so
And further they assert
That any show they'll interrupt
To bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They'll be the first to tell
Because the boys they got downtown
Are workin' hard and doin' swell,
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the street,
They say that no one blabs it faster
Their coverage can't be beat

And if another woman driver
Gets machine-gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a brownie
And you'll see it all complete

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Hey you know something people
I'm not black
But there's a whole lots a times
I wish I could say I'm not white

Well, I seen the fires burnin'
And the local people turnin'
On the merchants and the shops
Who used to sell their brooms and mops
And every other household item
Watched the mob just turn and bite 'em
And they say it served 'em right
Because a few of them are white,
And it's the same across the nation
Black & white discrimination
They're yellin' "; You can't understand me!";
And all the other crap they hand me
In the papers and TV
'N all that mass stupidity
That seems to grow more every day
Each time you hear some nitwit say
He wants to go and do you in
Because the color of your skin
Just don't appeal to him
(No matter if it's black or white)
Because he's out for blood tonight
You know we gotta sit around at home
And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many left
To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in my heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There ain't no great society
As it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
Just one amount and nothin' more
Don't watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor
Blow you harmonica son!

The police serve as the enforcement arm of the capitalist structure.

The capitalist structure is engineered to exclude people of color, along with those of limited economic means.

Clearly, it places the value of material objects over that of human life. (Like the value of forged checks above that of black men)

looting and destroying those material objects, and the places that symbolize them is a strike back against the entire system.

You want capitalism for everybody, well, this is how broke and broken people participate.

If you can’t understand that, you’re missing the whole thing.

yes, in addition there are some people also just show up for the violence.

jeesus, those photos are gnarly.

Disagree,  whole thing is sad.  Zero pleasure in any of this.

Killer cop Derek Chauvin was just arrested.   Don't know what the exact charges are or if the other three officers will be arrested too.

Apparently the murderer of Floyd is in custody.

Ironically, he's probably safer in custody.

Ken, would accomplis charges stick?

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

A riot is the language of the unheard.

Did they arrest him in front of cnn news cameras?

Or perhaps with a knee on his neck?

If there ever is football again, any player who does not kneel during the national anthem should be kicked in the balls.

Protests  ALL  _____Over ___The ____Country ______RIGHT NOW.

it may get very dangerous.

A new weird twist has emerged.  Chauvin and Floyd worked security at the same nightclub during overlapping shifts.  They apparently knew each other.

>>>if I saw u getting murdered like that by a pig, i’d b Burning down a precinct right now<<<

I appreciate that E.

I really should stay out of these type of conversations because at least for me it's difficult to articulate what I really think, but to me "looting" isn't protesting, it's just fuckers stealing things that don't belong to them, and that always annoys me.

If they were destroying the TVs in Target instead of taking them I wouldn't have as much of an issue with it, but their motives are different; they're just taking advantage of the outrage to take shit that doesn't belong to them.

IMO that's not protest or part of any "design", it's just stealing shit because they can get away with it.

I realize that when outrage boils over the lines get blurred in the chaos, but I can get behind true protest, even violent protest, but looting is just petty thievery hiding behind the outrage.

Now, if the reports that outside agitators started the real violence & looting last night are true then I suppose the looting is in a way by design; "Let's get this peaceful protest bullshit rocking!" type of thing. But the looters themselves are still just meaningless little people taking advantage of a situation.

It seems when there are violent protests/riots there are always reports of outside agitators starting the violence, and if that's true I guess I'm just dim because I can never quite figure out if the agitators are on the side of the protesters but think things need to get nasty before anyone takes them seriously, or if they're on the side of law & order and want to make pissed off but non-violent people all look like brainless, violent savages.

Anyway, it's all a nightmare, and pretty predictable. We humans are a mess and always have been.

I still think that young mayor from Minneapolis did the right thing by pulling all the police away from the scene so there were no ugly, dangerous confrontations. Buildings can be rebuilt and most businesses have insurance, but broken heads aren't as easy to fix.

Donnie T. sure didn't like that, which makes it good enough for me right there.

Have you watched this video. It is from right in front of the police station that burned. It shows a guy smashing the windows at an autozone. A white guy wearing a gas mask and carrying an umbrella so camera's couldn't get his face. Watch the video. The looting and destruction is being instigated.

I watched the video and while the guy with the umbrella busting out the windows could be an agent provocateur, my guess from having gone to a lot of street protests is dude was rank and file Black Bloc/Antifa.   The cops were obviously not prepared for what happened last night and don't think they really had the time or inclination to come up with that type of scheme.  Instead, it was typical Black Bloc tactics, which historically has shown no mercy for windows of banks and other businesses associated with big corporations.

IMG_9061.JPGI don't understand this at all.  Is this dude some kind of head case?

^^^^

Yeah.  Doesn't make since assuming umbrella dude was really a cop.  With so much genuine rioting and looting, really no need for a cop going out in disguise to instigate the crowd by knocking out the windows on the Auto Zone.

Speaking of rioting and looting, there was a lot of it here in Portland last night, but I totally missed out because it got started late and well past my bedtime.  I hear there was even rioting and looting down in Eugene last night too.

I don't understand why the CNN building in Atlanta was targeted.  They had been objectively reporting the protests nationwide.  One of their reporters and his camera crew were unjustly arrested on-air in Minneapolis.  Makes no sense.

Large demonstration and march scheduled this afternoon here in Seattle.  Hoping cooler heads prevail.  A non-violent protest will more effectively generate sympathy with the general public at this point.  It's time for the healing to begin.

Just got back from checking out downtown.  Didn't see any burnt buildings, but man, they trashed a lot of shit.   I have lived in this town 20 years and have been to many street protests, but haven't seen anything like this.

"Jewelers Row" on SW Third and Alder got hit hard, with most of the shops having been looted:

Trashed Jewlrey Store.jpg

Of course, its not a riot until the CVS gets trashed.   All the windows were busted out, but it looked like they didn't loot much from inside:

Trashed CVS_0.jpg

Portland is one of the last cities in the state still in lockdown, but that didn't stop the Pioneer Square Mall from opening early:

Trashed Mall.jpg

The mayor has declared a curfew starting at 8:00 pm.  I would go downtown tonight to check it out, but as with concerts, I always go to street protests via public transport and I assume they won't be running and there is no way I am parking my car down there.

What's the point in going, Ken, if it's just anarchic lunacy and not a more constructive protest?   Schadenfreude?  It seems like rubbernecking.

There's a press conference happening right now  on local networks w/ Mayor Wheeler and others.

Right now the sky is crying in Seattle, with very loud thunder claps, lightning flashes and the the rain pouring down.

Might diminish the protests today.  It's like Jimi's spirit is out there checking in on us....still raining, still dreaming...

If Trump has been compromised from the get go in a big way by Putin, think it through ... why would he EVER be let off the hook as an asset?

If election outcome does not look promising, why wouldn't he be under a directive to stir the pot / scorched earth ... either to see if power can be retained via chaos or to simply leave this vessel adrift in a sea of internal conflict?

I get it Dave, but have to admit I get some perverse satisfaction yelling at cops and seeing banks, cop cars, and high-end, brand name retail outlets getting trashed.   I guess I am a bit of an anarchist at heart and there is a rush you get when the flash bangs go off and the rubber bullets start flying.   That being said, will probably sit tonight's festivities out.

Hope your store stays safe and usually the Antifa is decent enough to spare the mom and pops and focus on trashing corporate places.

It's a shame real smart people believe the shit trump spews.

Thanks Ken.  I get where you're coming from.  There's a part of me that identifies with being the righteously indignant 18 year old I used to be, enamored with the spirit and look of Anarchy and dreaming of rapid social change.  As I've grown older and experienced more things, I've come to appreciate that real progress involves enjoining the general populace in the cause, not alienating them, and is usually a longer sustained process.   Ghandhi and his followers with their knitting wheels, the Freedom Marchers, Julia Butterfly Hill's tree-sit, for instance.  My heart is with the protesters, young and old, seeking effective change.

My guess is things will stay calm in my neighborhood tonight.  With the UW having cancelled all classes, there aren't as many people around, especially younger ones.  There was a little street protest in the city last night, but it was on Capitol Hill and downtown, which will probably be flashpoints again tonight.  I'm hoping the rain keeps falling, as it will minimize the arson.

Stay safe people and lead by example.

Good.  Hopefully folks have learned from riots in the past that you shouldn't burn down your own neighborhoods.  Take it to where it belongs and I won't be shedding any tears if Trump Tower gets trashed.

I see that they are also trying to burn down city hall in Philly.

I saw a report that said folks tried to set fire to the Frank Rizzo statue. Excellent choice really.  Rizzo was a horrible human being.

AND MY AXE

from a neighbor ;

>This is from my friend, Jeff Forester who lives in Uptown Minneapolis. For some insight from within.

“So for those of you who are interested - I have no idea how national media is covering this - here is what is happening on the ground from my perspective. It is a long post.

All day yesterday people were out on the street helping businesses - EVERY SINGLE BUSINESS IN UPTOWN has boarded up windows and locked down their stores. The 3rd Precinct, which burned on down Thursday night, is on the east end of Lake Street. Uptown, where we live and the 5th Precinct police station is located, is three miles west on lake street. All of Lake Street was looted on Thursday night. On Friday EVERY BUSINESS on Lake Street and adjoining commercial districts, was boarded up.

Many spray painted murals on the plywood - let folks know they were a local or minority owned business. Essential businesses.

Last night was by far the worst night. Protests during the day were peaceful. There was an 8:00pm curfew. Everything changed when the sun went down. There are roving and highly organized bands of anti-government neo-nazi white men cruising the city, breaking off plywood, looting stores, and then setting them fire to the buildings.

On the Northside, which is predominately African American, the situation was much the same. Local civic groups were trying to protect local businesses and homes. there were many fires.

The violence and destruction is NOT being driven by local people. The cars on the streets have either removed their license plates, or have out of state plates.

Here is a post from a neighbor, "Everybody! We need to get our heads around what’s happening, Mpls and St Paul are being attacked by fascist “accelerationist” white crazies. Trying to divide & destroy us.

Accelerationism: the idea inspiring white supremacist killers around the world -Vox"

Expect these same types to infiltrate all of the legitimate protests happening in other cities in America. We are fighting an enemy within.

These "accelerationists" burned down the 5th Police Precinct, our post office, every pharmacy. The Wallgreens and CVS within a few blocks of our house are still burning this morning. The grocery stores were all hit. Every bank has been hit. Every liquor store, every gas station. They have guns and accelerants.

When National Guard show up, they disappear into the neighborhoods and have been setting fires. It is a violent game of arsonist wake-a-mole. There is no longer any fire fighting service available - overwhelmed. So neighbors are using garden hoses to put out the fires and save homes. Pictures neighbors are sharing - these are young white men, heavily armed.

According to authorities there are over 10,000 of these "accelerationists" in the city. St. Paul arrested over 50 people last night. ALL OF THEM were from out of state. The authorities are checking phones of the people they have arrested, doing contact tracing of sorts on these people. These people are connected to right wing militia style groups with a civil/race war fantasy. They are opportunistically using the legitimate, peaceful George Floyd protests as a cover to actualize their neo-nazi fever dream.

Gov. Walz just said, "If you know where these people are sleeping today, let us know and we will execute warrants. Allie and I were helping the owner of a commercial building up the street - a friend, and two of these guys came up to us. Wanted to know where the free food was being distributed. He gave them an address that was three blocks away. Had no idea what we were talking about - not from here.

Allie, the girls and I are fine and safe. Exhausted. Angry. We have not really slept in three days. Everyone in Minneapolis/St. Paul is the same.

So, what to do? Our neighborhood group is meeting at the park this afternoon. I think that they will organize our neighborhood watch to patrol, try to spot fires and get them out ASAP.

Major protests are planned for today. They want the other three police officers involved in George Floyd's murder arrested, they want the MN Attorney General, not the Hennepin County Attorney to manage the case. They want the MPD disbanded and reformed with many alternative public safety and law enforcement strategies used. But the legitimate protests will end at 8:00 pm.

The Gov. and the mayor are calling in thousands more National Guard Troops. We already had more National Guard troops in the city than ever before. They are doing a good job but were overwhelmed last night by sheer numbers. Gov. Walz is the highest ranking soldier to have ever served in Congress and led the National Guard - he clearly sees this for what it is and will fight it. This is now a military operation by the State of Minnesota against alt-right, white nationalists  and anarchists that have come into Minneapolis to use the protests against police brutality as cover for their death fantasy.

They are trying to force authorities to use deadly force and "accelerate" the violence.

It is dark friends.

The other side - this morning the neighborhood is out in force helping with the clean up, re-securing businesses. Massive food distribution at community centers. People taking in neighbors whose homes were destroyed or whose neighborhood was so impacted that it is no longer habitable. Allie was ion contact with students, many of whom are refugees from war torn countries, that were hearing explosions and fire and sirens - they were calling her to make sure she was okay.

Today I will garden. My flowers are starting to really come into bloom. Vegetables coming in strong. New raised bed being built. Eat some good food. Feel grateful. Train our new puppy Ruth, who is just a pip. Take her to the lake and give her a swimming lesson. Then I'll take a nap. I think tonight will be a long one.”

>>> I hear there was even rioting and looting down in Eugene last night too. <<<

This on facebook from a long-time acquaintance, a photographer for the Eugene Register-Guard newspaper who went to the riot last night in Eugene. Until recently the Register-Guard was a local family-owned paper that has been sold to Gannett and now to USA Today. They are shrinking the paper, furloughing reporters and photographers, and importing most news. All of that is sad, too.

Tonight Eugene became another community torn apart by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The whole episode makes me very sad. For George Floyd, his family, the people of color that have reason to fear, the business owners who lost their business tonight, the cops, many of whom I know, who had to come out and protect those businesses. I am not very sad for the owner of this car. He almost ran me over as he tried to barrel though the line.

All of it makes me bone tired.

But, I am immensely proud of the journalists I worked with tonight and want to thank the colleagues who texted me with information and concern as events unfolded.

Wow Daylight, usually I enjoy your opinion and respect what you have to say, but this is ridiculously out of line.   That's the response of a juvenile, not an adult.   We call people who can't control their selfish impulses and can only fixate on their own gratification wankers for a reason.

Nice work by a Seattle security guard here:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aVAMUejexa0

A protester had one of 2 AR-15 rifles stolen out of a vandalized Seattle Police Department squadcar, and was firing off several shots indiscriminately into a random car, when the guard seized the rifle, disarmed it and turned it back over to the authorities.  The other stolen weapon was also recovered.  As a Rolling Stones fan, I'm not thrilled, but not too surprised, to see the perpetrator flying the Stones logo.

Santa Cruz policeman ( not pig,  or pigpen )

He said "I truly love being a cop, and serving the men and women who protect our communities. For the past 42 years, I have given it my best, but too many cops in our profession have lost their way, become desensitized, or maybe don’t understand the mission of the police. Sadly, some have listened to political leaders who imply institutionalized violence is acceptable.

This latest killing in Minneapolis disturbs me to my core. This is not the profession I joined. We have to get policing back on track and that will take a concerted effort of cops w/ integrity, humility and a sense of justice. Actions like this, and those cops standing by and watching it happen must go for justice to prevail. If you see it you own it."

Minneapolis police rendered 44 people unconscious with neck restraints in five years

Several police experts said that number appears to be unusually high. "By using this tactic, it's a self-fulfilling tragedy," said one.

Since the beginning of 2015, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department have rendered people unconscious with neck restraints 44 times, according to an NBC News analysis of police records. Several police experts said that number appears to be unusually high.

Minneapolis police used neck restraints at least 237 times during that span, and in 16 percent of the incidents the suspects and other individuals lost consciousness, the department's use-of-force records show. A lack of publicly available use-of-force data from other departments makes it difficult to compare Minneapolis to other cities of the same or any size.
