GD songs never played live

Forums:

I'm bored and rereading Billy's book and Rock Scully's book.

Billy mentions a song the Grateful Dead recorded, but never played live. Wanna take a guess......?

Serengetti (Shakedown St)

Any more?

Seems like this has been done once or twice, but:

-France

-What's Become of the Baby

-Pride of Cucamonga

(I had Rosemary in place of Pride before I looked it up).

Forgot they never played Pride and played Rosemary once.

Thanks for letting me waste 5 minutes Alan!

my pleasure -- I had overlooked Serengetti.

I'm rediscovering all sorts of little tidbits by rereading some Dead books I haven't cracked open in some time.

Antwerp's Placebo

Equinox?

Serengetti and Antwerp's Placebo technically aren't songs, they were parts of percussion jams that were given names when they were placed on the records.

I was staying at Mete Tanty (Rolling Thunder's land in Carlin, NV) just after Thanksgiving in 1977 when Micky and Billy were there recording in the tool shed, these were the sessions that Serengetti came from..  We'd go to sleep at night listening to them play.

We did this every morning...

There's a bunch of tunes fromr the Dylan & The Dead rehearsals they never played live, but they were all covers of songs written by Dylan or other artists, like Paul Simon's "The Boy In The Bubble".

Does this qualify? Not technically an "official" Grateful Dead song, but...

Barbed Wire Whipping Party

Rosemary was played once at a small college in Louisville called Bellarmine in 1968. Amazingly, there's a great recording of this show. I downloaded this years ago; thought it was so cool they played at a place like that in my home state. A buddy of mine when to college there.

It cracks me up Rosemary was included on that greatest hits CD that came out in the early 90s, or whenever it was.

I think they played Whats Become of the Baby at least once.  I recall dancing to it at the Dicks Picks 4 release party at the Fillmore.

What about Barbed Wire Whipping Party???

Joe, what I read was they played the studio version over the sound system as they played weird music along with it.

I don't really consider that "playing the song live."

Ah, I guess your right....

Sounds like there might have been drugs involved.
