They don’t actually fight. The peacock joined the turkeys about a month ago, and now hangs out with them full time. I think the turkeys just think the peacock is a really ugly turkey.
The wild turkeys in my neighborhood hang out with the neighbor's peacocks and guinea hens, sometimes they chase each other around. At least the turkeys are quiet. Some of them are HUGE, standing almost 4' tall, they almost look like Velociraptors from those Jurassic Park movies.
We live on a 40mph road, which people go fast on. Lines of turkeys cross all the time, going from field to forest & back.
There can be 10 turkeys crossing together, and they are cognizant of cars approaching, and how fast they are traveling, and how best to get out of the way.
The line will split, one side will wait for the other. Nobody get anxious, nobody takes chances, they just have it all figured out.
Other animals, dead in the road all the time. No turkeys ever get hit. Smart & harmonious community. Better adjusted than a group of people crossing.
While I have love in my heart for the crows, I have come to respect the turkeys.

There are fewer roving gangs of turkeys in Eugene than there were in the past. We had lots, now not so many.
