Might also be bad chinese engineering on some water diversion project they have been working on. China's only interest in Tibet is that it is the water source for most of the country. I could see a scenario where they were trying to divert more water from Nepal/India and it went wrong, but talking out of my ass right now so no idea, but yeah those videos are horrible.
Explained as melting glaciers plus earthquake and landslide blocking glacial lake, then "glacial outburst" and the whole lake comes down at once. I think something similar happened in the Alps in recent years, and Juneau, AK this year. I wonder about towns beneath Rainier.
