First time Port Chester visitor, recommendations?

Forums:

I'll be in for the first two Phil shows this week and was wondering about food recs in the area? Specifically bagels. Although other recs would be appreciated, I'm wondering if there's anything in PC that would save me a train ride in to the City proper for bagels and fish?

Well you gotta go here

^Tachycardia?

Sounds exciting!

We passed by that place.  There was one open table for two and six people waiting, so we did the math and had pizza.

After your dinner this place has killer apple strudel for dessert, and about a million other tasty things you may enjoy. I always get a bag full of stuff for after show. Only a 2 min walk right across from the Cap.

Neri's Bakery  31 Pearl Street

Great seafood here... Saltaire (saltaireoysterbar.com)

Taqueria La Picardia ~ Right across from The Cap. Full Bar, awesome Mexican Fare & the owner, Pedro is a legit Deadhead & a total sweetheart!

Drew, this place seems to be popular for bagels in Port Chester:

The Bagel Emporium of Port Chester

Haven't tried it yet, but Bar Taco is popular and around the corner from Saltaire.(which is also fabulous for a splurge.)

Nope

Restaurant Salvadoreño - La Pupusa Loca  has never failed me.  By far the most reasonably priced menu around.  It's on the corner right at the theatre.  It always has plenty of open tables. Never a wait.  It's not fancy and neither is the beer.  The capital theater has no shortage of good beer, so save room if that's desired. It's genuine though and you will find it full of Central Americans with a sprinkle of hippies.  I had a nice meal there with bweir and coyote a few years ago.
¡Buen Provecho!

LLTD, did you say "nope" because you might have a better-quality bagel place to share?

Drew !

i hope you are having so much fun and discovering all the little nooks and crannies of PC

tonight sounds sweet from here (:

please give us a full review ! ! !

Loved Port Chester. Didn't get to everything suggested, but everything we had was great. Shouts to Rye Ridge Deli. And Balducci's. Both were very near our accommodations. We took the Metro North to Grand Central Terminal and the subway to the Upper West Side for Central Park on Tuesday. Didn't have a bad bite the entire trip. Enioyed the Cap and the Competitive Cannabis Smoking Grotto in particular... Loved the lineup, had no idea who the hell anyone other than Phil, Grahame, Benmont and Russo were but Stuart Bogie's incredibly tasty woodwind additions and Eric D Johnson's vocal work were most appreciated. Just seems like a very of the moment band and type of music. Real cosmic cowboy stuff. Super look forward to next time and I'll have to actually say hello if/when I run in to you again JLP.

I picked up Bagels from The Bagel Emporium of Port Chester and they were okay, nothing special and I don't think I'd go back. Their Bakers dozen was 18 bagels which would have been great if they were good, just meh, imho I tried the Wheat everything/Pumpernickel/Rye and the Bialys(these were not bialys, not sure what I would call them)

For baked goods I cannot recommend the Kneaded Bread enough and would suggest you try the Pumpkin raison seeded loaf so damn good, ymmv. Get there early for the Almond Croissants

^^^ Word.  Thank heavens I'm not staying a block away from Kneaded Bread like earlier this month.

They make good coffee drinks and homemade soups... and the beer warehouse is a block away, too. ;)

  Nope

^^^^ LOL Where is your detailed food review of PC?

Don't have one

I didn't find it terribly charming or quaint little village

^^^ Agree, it's not Cali-fied.
